Palm kernel meal (PKM) presents a challenge for non-ruminant livestock feeding due to its high fibre content predominantly in the form of mannan. Microbial fermentation offers a sustainable solution for fibre hydrolysis in lignocellulosic biomass. In this study, a Bacillus subtilis strain (F6), with high mannanase secretion capability, was isolated from the environment.

Six strains, WILCCON 0050, WILCCON 0051, WILCCON 0052, WILCCON 0053, WILCCON 0054, WILCCON 0055, were isolated from four different faecal samples of wild boars on Pulau Ubin, Singapore, Singapore. Based on core genome phylogenetic analysis, the six strains formed a distinct clade within the genus Limosilactobacillus (Lm.), with the most closely related type strain being Lm.

Ferulic acid (FA) exhibits antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, making it valuable for numerous industrial applications. Traditionally, FA is produced by the alkaline hydrolysis of -oryzanol, which is typically associated with wastewater generation. Recently, an increasing demand of natural FA necessitates its green production via enzymatic hydrolysis of -oryzanol, a mixture comprising triterpene alcohol ferulates and phytosteryl ferulates.

Depolymerization of carbohydrate biomass using a long-chain alcohol (transglycosylation) to produce alkyl glycoside-based bio-surfactants has been gaining industrial interest. This study introduces microwave-assisted transglycosylation in transforming wheat bran, a substantial agricultural side stream, into these valuable compounds. Compared to traditional heating, microwave-assisted processing significantly enhances the product yield by 53 % while reducing the reaction time by 72 %, achieving a yield of 29 % within 5 h.

Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are an emerging choice to treat neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. They are triesters of glycerol and three medium-chain fatty acids, such as capric (C8) and caprylic (C10) acids. The availability of C8-C10 methyl esters (C8-C10 ME) from vegetable oil processes has presented an opportunity to use methyl esters as raw materials for the synthesis of MCTs.
