Objectives: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is used in addition to stent placement to manage extrahepatic malignant biliary obstruction. We aimed to study the effect of RFA on overall survival (OS) and stent patency in malignant biliary obstruction.
Methods: A comprehensive literature search was performed from inception to May 2022 for all studies measuring the effect of RFA plus stents compared to stents placement only on OS and stent patency in patients with malignant biliary obstruction.

Fibrosis of the lung constitutes a major clinical challenge and novel therapies are required to alleviate the associated morbidity and mortality. Investigating the antifibrotic efficacy of drugs that are already in clinical practice offers an efficient strategy to identify new therapies. The phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitors, approved for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, harbor therapeutic potential for pulmonary fibrosis by augmenting the activity of endogenous antifibrotic mediators that signal through cyclic AMP.

Background: A diverting loop ileostomy is commonly constructed to protect a distal anastomosis after proctectomy for rectal cancer. Little data are available on whether closing the ileostomy before or after adjuvant chemotherapy affects survival.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of patients with rectal cancer who underwent a low anterior resection with diverting loop ileostomy followed by adjuvant chemotherapy at Ochsner Medical Center.

We comment on the meta-analysis by Mihura, Meyer, Dumitrascu, and Bombel (2013), which examined the validity of scores in Exner's Comprehensive System (CS) for the Rorschach. First, we agree there is compelling evidence that 4 categories of cognitive scores-the "Rorschach cognitive quartet"-are related to cognitive ability/impairment and thought disorder. We now feel comfortable endorsing the use of these scores in some applied and research settings.

Retrospective review of all patients with recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy seen at a comprehensive cancer centre over a 30 month period has revealed three patients with this diagnosis apparently related to massive venous thrombosis. All three patients had an underlying diagnosis of malignancy (two colon, one breast) and an indwelling central venous access device with its tip in the superior vena cava. Direct laryngoscopy was otherwise normal in all patients, and two had normal CT scans of the neck and mediastinum.
