Background: Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is typically treated in infancy but often done late in many resource-limited countries, jeopardizing surgical outcomes. This study examined the early results of children undergoing primary complete TOF repair at the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) in Tanzania, an emerging cardiac center in Eastern Africa.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), an RNA virus spread by droplet infection that affects all ages, is increasingly recognised as an important pathogen in adults, especially among older people living with comorbidities. Distinguishing RSV from other acute viral infections on clinical grounds alone, with sufficient precision to be clinically useful, is not possible. The reference standard diagnosis is by PCR: point-of-care tests perform less well with lower viral loads.

Intrapartum azithromycin prophylaxis has shown the potential to reduce maternal infections but showed no effect on neonatal sepsis and mortality. Antibiotic exposure early in life may affect gut microbiota development, leading to undesired consequences. Ototoxicity is among the adverse events related to cancer treatment that can have far-reaching consequences and negative impacts on quality-of-life for cancer patients and survivors of all ages. Ototoxicity management (OtoM) comprises the prevention, diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment, including rehabilitation and therapeutic intervention, of individuals who experience hearing loss, tinnitus, or balance/vestibular difficulties following exposures to ototoxic agents, including platinum chemotherapy (cisplatin, carboplatin) and cranial radiation. Despite the well-established physical, socioeconomic, and psychological consequences of hearing and balance dysfunction, there are no widely adopted standards for clinical management of cancer treatment-related ototoxicity.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) survivors are at risk for developing subsequent neoplasms, but there is limited information on long-term risks and risk factors for both subsequent malignant neoplasms (SMNs) and subsequent non-malignant neoplasms (SNMNs).
