In this work, we aim to design the digital twin of a plasmonic sensor based on hexagonally arranged ellipsoidal gold nanoparticles fixed to a glass substrate. Based on electron microscopy images of three experimentally realized nanoparticle arrangement types, we constructed numerical models in environments based on finite element method (FEM) and boundary element method (BEM), namely COMSOL Multiphysics for FEM and the MNPBEM Matlab Toolbox for BEM. Models with nonperiodic and periodic boundary conditions with different unit cells were constructed to study the plasmonic behavior of both the single ellipsoidal particles and the hexagonal nanoparticle arrangements.

A multi-wire proportional chamber-based muo- graphy observatory is under development for the monitoring of the internal structure of Mt Sakurajima in Kyushu, Japan. We investigated the limits of large-scale and high-definition muography. We adjusted the parameters of a modified Gaisser model and found that the spectral index of  =  - 2.

Muography is a novel method to highly resolve the internal structure of active volcanoes by taking advantage of the cosmic muon's strong penetration power. In this paper, we present the first high-definition image in the vicinity of craters of an erupting volcano called Sakurajima, Kyushu, Japan. The muography observation system based on the technique of multi-wire proportional chamber (mMOS) has been operated reliably during the data taking period of 157 days.

Wide-line H NMR measurements were extended and all results were reinterpreted in a new thermodynamics-based approach to study aqueous solutions of thymosin-β (Tβ ), stabilin C-terminal domain (CTD) and their 1:1 complex. The energy distributions of the potential barriers, which control motion of protein-bound water molecules, were determined. Heterogeneous and homogeneous regions were found at the protein-water interface.

Volumic omit maps in ab initio dual-space phasing.

Alternating-projection-type dual-space algorithms have a clear construction, but are susceptible to stagnation and, thus, inefficient for solving the phase problem ab initio. To improve this behaviour new omit maps are introduced, which are real-space perturbations applied periodically during the iteration process. The omit maps are called volumic, because they delete some predetermined subvolume of the unit cell without searching for atomic regions or analysing the electron density in any other way.

We report on a method for real-time dynamic calibration of a tunable external cavity diode laser by using a partially mode-matched plano-concave Fabry-Pérot interferometer in reflection geometry. Wide range laser frequency scanning is carried out by piezo-driven tilting of a diffractive grating playing the role of a frequency selective mirror in the laser cavity. The grating tilting system has a considerable mechanical inertness, so static laser frequency calibration leads to false results.

Thymosine β4 (Tß4) is a 43 amino acid long intrinsically disordered protein (IDP), which was initially identified as an actin-binding and sequestering molecule. Later it was described to have multiple other functions, such as regulation of endothelial cell differentiation, blood vessel formation, wound repair, cardiac cell migration, and survival. The various functions of Tβ4 are mediated by interactions with distinct and structurally unrelated partners, such as PINCH, ILK, and stabilin-2, besides the originally identified G-actin.

The present status of the quasi-local mass, energy-momentum and angular-momentum constructions in general relativity is reviewed. First, the general ideas, concepts, and strategies, as well as the necessary tools to construct and analyze the quasi-local quantities, are recalled. Then, the various specific constructions and their properties (both successes and deficiencies are discussed.
