The study integrates hydrodynamic modelling and geospatial analysis methods to describe the dynamic transport and sedimentation conditions of suspended solids (SS) in large lowland reservoirs. The method was tested on a dam reservoir on the Vistula River (Poland). Stochastic particle tracking was used with a Lagrangian approach, then geostatistical analyses to interpret the simulation results.

The Emotion Regulation Questionnaire-Short Form (ERQ-S) is a brief 6-item self-report measure of two emotion regulation strategies, cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression. It is a short form of the most widely used emotion regulation measure in the field, but currently there are limited data on the performance of the ERQ-S. The aim of this study was to introduce a Polish version of the ERQ-S, examine its psychometric properties and provide Polish norms to aid score interpretation.

Human milk comprehensively meets the nutritional needs of a child, providing not only structural and energy components but also various bioactive factors. Among these, neurotrophic factors and hormones involved in metabolic processes deserve special attention. Studies using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays compared the content of neurotrophic factors-CNTF, NT-3, and NGF-and hormones, leptin and insulin, in two groups of breast milk samples: early lactation (1-3 months) and extended lactation (>6 months, up to 12 months).

Porphyrin complexes are of great importance due to their possible applications as sensors, solar cells and photocatalysts, as well as their ability to bind additional ligands. A valuable source of knowledge on their nature is their electric properties, which can be evaluated employing density functional theory (DFT) methods, supporting the experimental research. The present work aims at the application of small property-oriented basis sets in calculation of electric properties in transition metals, their oxides and test coordination complexes.

This study investigated the technological parameters, microbiological, and functional properties of juice from Solaris grapes grown under conventional and organic farming systems to assess how these cultivation methods influence juice quality. The one-year study focused on key aspects such as the levels of health-promoting polyphenols, the presence of mycotoxins, and pesticide residues. Organic grapes showed greater bacterial and fungal diversity, with significant differences in dominant genera.

The presented study depicts the synthesis of 11 carborane-thiazole conjugates with anticancer activity, as well as an evaluation of their biological activity as inhibitors of two enzymes: tyrosinase and 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD1). The overexpression of tyrosinase results in the intracellular accumulation of melanin and can be observed in melanoma. The overexpression of 11β-HSD1 results in an elevation of glucocorticoid levels and has been associated with the aggravation of metabolic disorders such as type II diabetes mellitus and obesity.

3 + 3 optically active macrocyclic Schiff bases were synthesized in the reaction between 4-tert-butyl-2,6-diformylphenol with (1R,2R)-(+)-1,2-diphenylethylenediamine (S1) or (1S,2S)-(-)-1,2-diphenylethylenediamine (S1a). The new compounds were spectroscopically characterised by NMR, IR, X-ray (S1a), UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. The S1a molecule creates channels with distances between oxygen atoms ranging from 5.

The efficient conversion of tissues into reproductive success is a crucial aspect affecting the evolution of life histories. Masting, the interannually variable and synchronous seed production in perennial plants, is a strategy that can enhance reproductive efficiency by mitigating seed predation and pollen limitation. However, evaluating benefits is insufficient to establish whether efficiency has improved, as such assessments neglect the associated costs of masting, particularly during the critical seed-to-seedling stage.

In the present work, hybrid nanobiocomposites based on poly(3-hydroxybutyrate), P3HB, with the use of aromatic linear polyurethane as modifier and organic nanoclay, Cloisite 30B, as a nanofiller were produced. The aromatic linear polyurethane (PU) was synthesized in a reaction of diphenylmethane 4,4'-diisocyanate and polyethylene glycol with a molecular mass of 1000 g/mole. The obtained nanobiocomposites were characterized by the small-angle X-ray scattering technique, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry, and moreover, their selected mechanical properties, biodegradability, and cytotoxicity were tested.

The lichen-rich pine forests of represent special habitats protected under the Natura 2000 scheme. A rapid decline in their density has been observed in recent years. Macrofungi are an important component of the community and sensitive bioindicators; therefore, observations of the response of their sporocarps can be used to draw conclusions about changes induced in habitats.

The aim of this paper is to prepare, describe and discuss the models of the current and future distribution of Phthiracarus longulus (Koch, 1841) (Acari: Oribatida: Euptyctima), the oribatid mite species widely distributed within the Palearctic. We used the maximum entropy (MAXENT) method to predict its current and future (until the year 2100) distribution based on macroclimatic bio-variables. To our best knowledge, this is the first-ever prediction of distribution in mite species using environmental niche modelling.

Measurements of the properties of soft materials are important from the point of view of medical diagnostics of soft tissues as well as testing the quality of food products and many technical materials. One of the frequently used techniques for testing such materials, attractive due to its non-invasive nature, is the indentation technique, which does not puncture the material. The difficulty of testing soft materials, which affects the objectivity of the results, is related to the problems of stable positioning of the studied material in relation to the indentation apparatus, especially with a device held by the operator.

In the majority of pharmaceutical applications, polymers are employed extensively in a diverse range of pharmaceutical products, serving as indispensable components of contemporary solid oral dosage forms. A comprehensive understanding of the properties of polymers and selection the appropriate methods of characterization is essential for the design and development of novel drug delivery systems and manufacturing processes. Orally disintegrating film (ODF) formulations are considered to be a potential substitute to traditional oral dosage forms and an alternative method of drug administration for children and uncooperative adult patients, including those with swallowing difficulties.

Background: To date, no longitudinal studies of quarterly changes have been conducted on the differences in the development of motor coordination between boys and girls in relation to changes in their tennis skills level. Therefore, the aim of the study was to assess the development of motor coordination of 10-12-year-old tennis players over the course of 1 year, in the light of changes in tennis skills preparation.
Methods: One-hundred eighty male and female tennis players aged 10, 11, or 12 years old participated in the study.

In this study, we propose novel three-layer composite scintillators designed for the simultaneous detection of different ionizing radiation components. These scintillators are based on epitaxial structures of LuAG and YAG garnets, doped with Ce and Sc ions. Samples of these composite scintillators, containing YAG:Ce and LuAG:Ce single crystalline films with different thicknesses and LuAG:Sc single crystal substrates, were grown using the liquid phase epitaxy method from melt solutions based on PbO-BO fluxes.

In this study, Ce-doped LuAlO garnet (LuAG) crystal detectors, with a density of ρ = 6 g/cm and an effective atomic number Z = 62, are proposed as promising materials for radiotherapy applications. This type of detector demonstrates excellent uniformity of structural and optical properties, high thermoluminescence (TL) light yield, optimal position of main TL glow peaks at temperatures around 245-295 °C, and high radiation stability. The set of TL detectors made from LuAG:Ce single crystal was used to evaluate the uniformity of dose and energy spectra of X-ray radiation from a clinical accelerator with 6 MV and 15 MV beams at the Department of Medical Physics, Oncology Center in Bydgoszcz, Poland, and γ-rays from a Co source at the National Institute of Oncology in Warsaw.
