Background: Obesity is chronic disease and causal precursor to myriad other conditions, including type 2 diabetes. In an earlier analysis of the SURMOUNT-1 trial, tirzepatide was shown to provide substantial and sustained reductions in body weight in persons with obesity over a 72-week period. Here, we report the 3-year safety outcomes with tirzepatide and its efficacy in reducing weight and delaying progression to type 2 diabetes in persons with both obesity and prediabetes.

Physical activity can reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in cancer survivors, but Black and Hispanic people are less likely to engage in routine physical activity. A search for the exclusive hadronic decays W^{±}→π^{±}γ, W^{±}→K^{±}γ, and W^{±}→ρ^{±}γ is performed using up to 140  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13  TeV. If observed, these rare processes would provide a unique test bench for the quantum chromodynamics factorization formalism used to calculate cross sections at colliders. Additionally, at future colliders, these decays could offer a new way to measure the W boson mass through fully reconstructed decay products.

Dual agonism of glucagon and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptors may be more effective than GLP-1 receptor agonism alone in reducing body weight, but the cardiovascular (CV) effects are unknown. The authors describe the rationale and design of SYNCHRONIZE-CVOT, a phase 3, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, event-driven, CV safety study of survodutide, a dual glucagon and GLP-1 receptor agonist, administered subcutaneously once weekly compared with placebo in adults with a body mass index ≥27 kg/m and established CV disease or chronic kidney disease, and/or at least 2 weight-related complications or risk factors for CV disease.
