Manipulation under anesthesia following total knee arthroplasty: a comprehensive review of literature.

Introduction: The etiology of the stiff knee after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is largely unknown, although excessive scar tissue due to arthrofibrosis is an important reason for a limited range of motion (ROM) after this procedure. Persistent limited ROM after TKA results in poor patient-reported outcomes and is increasingly becoming a more prominent reason for TKA revision surgery.

Methods: A narrative review of current literature on manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) after TKA analyzing etiology and risk factors for stiffness after TKA, effectiveness of MUA and what is known about rehabilitation after MUA.

Balloon dilatation of the Eustachian tube in adult patients with chronic dilatory tube dysfunction: a retrospective cohort study.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the subjective and objective short-term results and safety of transnasal balloon dilatation of the Eustachian tube (BET) in adult patients with chronic dilatory Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD).

Design: Retrospective cohort study. Data collection was performed preoperatively, 1 and 3 months after BET.

Subdural arteriovenous fistula (SDAVF) is a rare condition characterized by clinical manifestations ranging from mild bilateral sensory deficits to quadriplegia. The diagnosis is often delayed due to unspecific neurological symptoms, initially diagnosed as polyneuropathy or myelopathy. The diagnosis can be delayed for as long as 1-15 years.

Trauma surgery by general surgeons: Still an option for proximal femoral fractures?

Introduction: Surgery for proximal femoral fractures in the Netherlands is performed by trauma surgeons, general surgeons and orthopaedic surgeons. The aim of this study was to assess whether there is a difference in outcome for patients with proximal femoral fractures operated by trauma surgeons versus general surgeons. Secondly, the relation between hospital and surgeon volume and postoperative complications was explored.

Follow-up of colon cancer patients; causes of distress and need for supportive care: Results from the ICARE Cohort Study.

Background: Colon cancer survivors experience physical and psychosocial problems that are currently not adequately addressed. This study investigated distress in patients after curative surgery for colon cancer and studied how this corresponds with the need for supportive care.

Methods: Prospective cohort of patients with stage I-III colon carcinoma, treated with curative intent, currently in follow-up at 6 different hospitals.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy shortly following pacemaker implantation-case report and review of the literature.

We describe a patient with acute heart failure shortly after pacemaker implantation. With the documentation of typical dyskinesia of the apical segments with hyperdynamic contractility of the basal segments and a normal coronary angiogram, pacemaker implantation-induced Takotsubo cardiomyopathy was diagnosed. Supportive care was administered and within several days the patient's symptoms resolved.
