Survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) remains low, although the number of survivors is increasing, and survivors are living longer. With increasing long-term survival, there is a need to understand health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measures. Although there are current recommendations for measuring HRQoL in OHCA survivors, there is significant heterogeneity in assessment timing and the measurement tools used to quantify HRQoL outcomes, making the interpretation and comparison of HRQoL difficult.

Background: Adults undergoing spine surgery often have underlying osteoporosis, which may be a risk factor for postoperative complications. Although these associations have been described, osteoporosis remains profoundly underdiagnosed and undertreated in the spine surgery population. A thorough, comprehensive systematic review summarizing the relationships between bone mineral density (BMD) and specific complications of lumbar fusion surgery could be a valuable resource for raising awareness and supporting clinical practice changes.

Unlabelled: High cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) is associated with decreased mortality in people with pre-diabetes (pre-DM) and diabetes mellitus (DM); however, the degree to which CRF attenuates the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related and all-cause mortality is unclear.
Study Objective: We examined the impact of CRF status on CVD-related morbidity and all-cause mortality in non-DM, Pre-DM, and DM populations.
Design And Setting: 13,968 adults from the Third US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) were stratified into non-DM, pre-DM, or DM groups based on HbA1c levels.

Neutropenic enterocolitis (NEC), also referred to as typhlitis, is a condition associated with a high mortality risk and primarily manifests in immunocompromised patients. It is characterized by ulceration, edema, and hemorrhage affecting the bowel wall. The underlying cause of NEC is postulated as an immunocompromised condition that facilitates bacterial infiltration through compromised bowel mucosa.

Bipolar disorder is typically diagnosed in the teenage to early adulthood years. During this age, many individuals are students pursuing a college degree. Students developing the symptoms of bipolar disorder have a harder time navigating college and have significant difficulties transitioning back to school after psychiatric hospitalization, potentially influencing quality of life.

Premedication in anesthesia has long been used to reduce patient anxiety, increase patient compliance, and supplement the overall anesthetic. In pediatric populations, premedication also has the indirect benefits of reducing parental anxiety as well as both the incidence and severity of emergence delirium. Oral midazolam, selected for its ease of administration, short duration of action, and reliable anxiolytic and amnestic effects, has been a favorite choice in this role for decades.

Context: Anecdotal evidence suggested that osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) may have imparted survivability to patients in osteopathic hospitals during the 1918 influenza pandemic. In addition, previous OMT research publications throughout the past century have shown evidence of increased lymphatic movement, resulting in improved immunologic function qualitatively and quantitatively.
Objectives: The following is a description of a proposed protocol to evaluate OMT effects on antibody generation in the peripheral circulation in response to a vaccine and its possible use in the augmentation of various vaccines.

Introduction: This retrospective observational study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of complete revascularization coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with multi-vessel disease (MVD)-CAD and declined renal functions, addressing the knowledge gap regarding optimal treatment strategies and outcomes in this specific patient population.
Methods: Between 2020 and 2022, a total of 58 patients underwent on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting surgery for complete myocardial revascularization in this study. To assess overall survival, Kaplan-Meier with the log-rank test was conducted for statistical analysis.

Description Cutaneous abscesses are collections of pus resulting from skin and soft tissue bacterial infections. They clinically exhibit the four cardinal inflammatory signs of pain, warmth, swelling, and erythema. In patients with darkly pigmented skin, classically-associated erythema may be challenging to appreciate and can lead to missed or delayed diagnosis.

Tolosa-Hunt syndrome is a rare cause of painful ophthalmoplegia, most commonly presenting with retro-orbital pain and eye motor nerve palsy, most often affecting a single eye. The condition is characterised by an idiopathic process causing granulomatous inflammation to the cavernous sinus affecting, one or multiple cranial nerves that pass therein. The mechanism underlying the inflammation is not well understood, but patients have been observed to respond to steroids during a flare.

Introduction: Insertional Achilles tendinopathy is a common overuse disorder affecting the foot and ankle that can lead to the development of a Haglund's deformity with chronicity, a retrocalcaneal exostosis that forms at the Achilles insertion site, further increasing pain and dysfunction.
Presentation Of Case: We report a case of a healthy, 35-40-year-old male with chronic left-sided insertional Achilles pain beginning in early adolescence. Physical exam demonstrated bilateral prominences on the posterior aspect of both heels, exquisitely tender on the left and without range of motion deficits.

Introduction: Flexor pollicis longus (FPL) tendon rupture is a known complication after a distal radius (DR) fracture and subsequent fixation with a volar plate. A commonly accepted theory is the attrition of the flexor tendon by the prominent volar plate or theoretical injury to the tendon during the initial injury. An increasingly rare complication of distal radius open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) with volar plate fixation is stenosing tenosynovitis, more commonly known as trigger finger.

Diabetes mellitus is considered an important risk factor for progression to severe COVID disease and death, therefore additional research is warranted in this group. Individuals with diabetes at baseline have an underlying inflammatory state with elevated levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and lower levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines, both of which cause these individuals to have higher susceptibility to SARS- CoV2 infection.

In 2020, made a pledge to actively work towards improving diversity in our field. As we head into 2021, Black urologists make up only 2% of the US workforce in urology; this lack of representation is detrimental to the field as a whole and to the patients it serves. In this Viewpoint, which follows on from our previous article ‘Supporting Black voices in urology’, 12 medical students who have chosen to enter the field recount their experiences, describing their reasons for entering urology and why they chose particular programmes.

Objective: To assess the feasibility of conducting a randomized, controlled trial comparing OMT and vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT), alone or in combination, in patients with vertigo and somatic dysfunction.
Methods: Volunteers with vertigo who were also diagnosed with somatic dysfunction (SD) were prospectively enrolled in a blinded, randomized, controlled cohort comparative effectiveness study and assigned to 1 of 4 groups: OMT alone, VRT alone, a combination of OMT and VRT (OMT/VRT), or a nonintervention control group.
Dot blotting allows for the rapid screening of a larger number of samples and/or targets than more traditional methods, such as a western blot or in-tissue-based methods. We have developed a dot-blot assay specifically for use with a LiCor Odyssey CLx imager, which allows for sensitive detection of proteins in the infrared range. Here, we provide a detailed protocol for the preparation of brain tissue and neural cell culture lysates for analysis of protein targets by dot blotting.
