Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has become a method more and more frequently used in loco-regional breast cancer in the initial stages. Starting from the first report on the technical feasibility of the sentinel node method in breast cancer, published by Krag (1993) and Giuliano (1994), the method underwent numerous improvements and was also largely used worldwide. This article is a prospective study that took place at the "SJUPBT Surgery Clinic Timisoara" over a period of 1 year between July 2023 and July 2024, during which 137 underwent sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) based on the current guidelines.

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Bucharest, University of Bucharest, 050095 Bucharest, Romania; Research Institute of the University of Bucharest, 050095 Bucharest, Romania. Electronic address:

Chitosan is a natural polysaccharide widely used in medical formulations as nanoparticles due to their special properties. Our work aimed to assess the biocompatibility of chitosan-hyaluronic acid nanogels labeled with fluorochromes for use in biomedical applications, based on the FRET effect. The preparation method included the ionic gelation, grafting rhodamine or fluorescein isothiocyanate molecules onto the chitosan backbone.

: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a leading cause of blindness in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Cardiovascular risk factors, such as hypertension, obesity, and dyslipidemia, may play a crucial role in the development and progression of DR, though the evidence remains mixed. This study aimed to assess cardiovascular risk factors as independent predictors of DR and to develop a predictive model for DR progression in T2DM patients.

The cultivation of alfalfa is crucial for farmers as it is an excellent forage crop with a high nitrogen-fixing capacity, making it indispensable in crop rotations. Breeding programs face challenges in advancing more rapidly in genetic diversity to achieve a higher heterosis effect and, consequently, greater yield. In this study, we used 30 alfalfa varieties, which were used for molecular analyses by 5 ISSR primers and 13 RAPD primers.

Background And Objectives: This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative blood transfusions in correcting anemia for pediatric patients with congenital malformations (CMs) versus those with acute abdomen (AA) conditions. The study hypothesized that the response to transfusions might vary significantly between these groups due to the differences in the underlying pathology and clinical status.

Methods: The study included 107 pediatric patients admitted to Timisoara 'Louis Turcanu' Emergency Hospital for Children between January 2015 and May 2023, who required blood transfusions for preoperative anemia.

Article Synopsis
  • Pathogenic species of Leptospira cause leptospirosis, leading to serious infections in both animals and humans, particularly affecting major organs.
  • This study analyzed kidney injury and conducted a retrospective review from dog samples at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Timisoara over several years, focusing on correlation with factors like breed, gender, and infection status.
  • Findings revealed a significant link between unvaccinated dogs and increased leptospirosis risk, and compared diagnostic methods, showing that qPCR was more effective and specific for detecting leptospirosis than traditional immunohistochemistry (IHC).

The COVID-19 pandemic underscores the need for accurate prognostic tools to predict patient outcomes. This study evaluates the effectiveness of four prominent COVID-19 prediction scores-PAINT, ISARIC4C, CHIS, and COVID-GRAM-at two critical time points: at admission and seven days post-symptom onset, to assess their utility in predicting mortality among hospitalized patients. Conducted at the Clinical Emergency Hospital Pius Brînzeu in Timișoara, this retrospective analysis included adult patients hospitalized with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Oxidative stress (OS) and apoptosis are critical factors in placental development and function. Their interplay influences trophoblast proliferation, differentiation, and invasion, as well as vascular development. An imbalance between these processes can lead to pregnancy-related disorders such as preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, and even spontaneous abortion.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are a major cause of mortality globally, emphasizing the need for early detection and effective risk assessment to improve patient outcomes. Advances in oculomics, which utilize the relationship between retinal microvascular changes and systemic vascular health, offer a promising non-invasive approach to assessing CVD risk. Retinal fundus imaging and optical coherence tomography/angiography (OCT/OCTA) provides critical information for early diagnosis, with retinal vascular parameters such as vessel caliber, tortuosity, and branching patterns identified as key biomarkers.
