Background: Hospitals use triage systems to prioritize the needs of patients within available resources. Misclassification of a patient can lead to either adverse outcomes in a patient who did not receive appropriate care in the case of undertriage or a waste of hospital resources in the case of overtriage. Recent advances in machine learning algorithms allow for the quantification of variables important to under- and overtriage.

Impact of Pre-Existing Immunity and Age on Antibody Responses to Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccine.

Vaccines (Basel)

August 2024

Influenza Centre, Department of Clinical Science, University of Bergen, Haukelandsbakken, 5009 Bergen, Norway.

Live attenuated influenza vaccines (LAIV) typically induce a poor hemagglutination inhibition (HI) response, which is the standard correlate of protection for inactivated influenza vaccines. The significance of the HI response is complicated because the LAIV vaccine primarily induces the local mucosal immune system, while the HI assay measures the circulating serum antibody response. However, age and pre-existing immunity have been identified as important factors affecting LAIV immunogenicity.

Unlabelled: The cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) is one of the main causes of vascular and mixed cognitive impairment (CI), and it is associated, in particular, with brain ageing. An understanding of structural tissue changes in an intact cerebral white matter in cSVD might allow one to develop the sensitive biomarkers for early diagnosis and monitoring of disease progression.

Purpose Of The Study: to evaluate microstructural changes in the corpus callosum (CC) using diffusion MRI (D-MRI) approaches in cSVD patients with different severity of CI and reveal the most sensitive correlations of diffusion metrics with CI.

Adsorption of Asphaltenes at Model Oil/Brine Interface: Influence of Solvent Polarity.

ACS Omega

May 2024

College of Pipeline & Civil Engineering, China University of Petroleum (East China), Qingdao, Shandong 266580, People's Republic of China.

With the exploitation of heavy oil worldwide, the influence of asphaltene aggregation in the oil phase on the stability of crude oil emulsion has been paid more and more attention. Under this background, the effects of solvent polarity on model oil/brine water interfacial properties and emulsion stability are investigated in this study. It is demonstrated that there is a critical asphaltene concentration for the formation of a stable emulsion.

The increased adoption of digital systems in the maritime domain has led to concerns about cyber resilience, especially in the wake of increasingly disruptive cyber-attacks. This has seen vessel operators increasingly adopt Maritime Security Operation Centers (M-SOCs), an action in line with one of the cyber resilience engineering techniques known as adaptive response, whose purpose is to optimize the ability to respond promptly to attacks. This research sought to investigate the domain-specific human factors that influence the adaptive response capabilities of M-SOC analysts to vessel cyber threats.

Increasingly disruptive cyber-attacks in the maritime domain have led to more efforts being focused on enhancing cyber resilience. From a regulatory perspective, there is a requirement that maritime stakeholders implement measures that would enable the timely detection of cyber events, leading to the adoption of Maritime Security Operation Centers (M-SOCs). At the same time, Remote Operation Centers (ROCs) are also being discussed to enable increased adoption of highly automated and autonomous technologies, which could further impact the attack surface of vessels.

4,4'-Dichlorodiphenyl sulfoxide is the main raw material for the manufacture of polysulfone, polyether sulfone and other engineering plastics. It is also an intermediate for medicines, dyes and pesticides, which has been widely utilized in engineering plastics, fine chemicals and other fields. The alkylation of chlorobenzene with thionyl chloride can give 4,4'-dichlorodiphenyl sulfoxide as a product using Lewis acidic ionic liquids.

Challenging behaviors are common in nursing homes. Drawing on rich qualitative data from fieldwork and in-depth interviews with staff in a nursing home in Norway, we will explore (a) how challenging behaviors unfolded, and (b) how such incidents were handled and talked about among staff. Our data is presented firstly through Anna's story as an introduction to discussing: (1) the problem of contrasting approaches to avoid challenging behaviors and (2) the importance of knowing the resident.

Rechargeable Iron-Ion Battery Using a Pure Ionic Liquid Electrolyte.

ACS Omega

July 2022

Renewable Energy Group, Department of Physics and Technology, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, NO-9037 Tromsø, Norway.

A rechargeable iron-ion battery (Fe-ion battery) has been fabricated in our laboratory using a pure ionic liquid electrolyte. Magnetic ionic liquids of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrachloroferrate (BmimFeCl) and 1-methyl-3-octylimidazolium tetrachloroferrate (OmimFeCl) are synthesized and utilized as electrolytes in this work. The chemical structure of the two ionic liquids (ILs) is investigated using Raman analysis.

Population dynamic regulators in an empirical predator-prey system.

J Theor Biol

October 2021

Inst. of Marine Res, PO Box 1870, 5817 Bergen, Norway. Electronic address:

Capelin (Mallotus villosus) is a short-lived (1-4 years) fish species, that plays a crucial role by dominating the intermediate trophic level in the Barents Sea. Several episodes of extreme biomass decline (collapse) have been observed during the last three decades. We postulate that these collapses might be regulated by food availability (bottom-up effect) and/or by time discrepancy between capelin feeding and abundance of its prey (match-mismatch hypothesis).

This article examined Norwegian students' associations with lunch packs and lunch breaks in primary schools, highlighting the Norwegian school meal system. Empathy-based stories were used; that is, participants were asked to write on a story about a good or a bad school lunch, either based on actual experiences or imagination. The data included stories from 181 fifth graders (105 girls and 76 boys) aged 10-11 years.

Consequences of nondomestic violence are known to be multifaceted with high rates of emotional and psychological problems in addition to physical injuries, and victims report many trauma related symptoms. This study explore if perceived social support (PSS) (Social Provisions Scale [SPS]) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms (Impact of Event Scale [IES-22]) are interrelated among adult victims at four assessment points up until eight years after the exposure to physical assault; soon after the event (T1), three months after T1 (T2), one year after T1 (T3), and eight years after T1 (T4). One hundred and forty-three subjects participated at T1, 94 at T2, 73 at T3, and 47 accepted a follow-up at T4.

School of Clinical Sciences, Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand.

Ethics is ever-present in all aspects of human interaction and, in any physiotherapy situation there is an inherent claim to act and care for the patient in the best possible way. The physiotherapy profession is provided with rules, guidelines and codes to support and ensure ethical professional conduct. In recent decades however, physiotherapy literature has emphasized how ethical agency is immersed in clinical reasoning in each particular situation, in the doing of physiotherapy.
