Background: Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) of the lower limbs is caused by atherosclerotic occlusive disease in which narrowing of arteries reduces blood flow to the lower limbs. PAD is common; it is estimated to affect 236 million individuals worldwide. Advanced age, smoking, hypertension, diabetes and concomitant cardiovascular disease are common factors associated with increased risk of PAD.

Quantum chemistry plays a key role in exploring the chemical properties of highly reactive chlorine polyfluoride compounds (ClF). Here, we investigate the thermochemical properties of ClF species (n=2-6) by means of high-level thermochemical procedures approximating the CCSDT(Q) and CCSDTQ5 energies at the complete basis set limit. We consider total atomization energies (TAEs), Cl-F bond dissociation energies (BDEs), F elimination energies (F elim.

Background And Objectives: Women with multiple sclerosis (MS) are at risk of disease reactivation in the early postpartum period. Ocrelizumab (OCR) is an anti-CD20 therapy highly effective at reducing MS disease activity. Data remain limited regarding use of disease-modifying therapies (DMTs), including OCR, and disease activity during peripregnancy periods.

Venous malformation (VM) is a prevalent congenital vascular anomaly characterized by abnormal blood vessel growth, leading to disfigurement and dysfunction. Sclerotherapy, a minimally invasive approach, has become a primary therapeutic modality for VM, but its efficacy is hampered by the rapid dilution and potential adverse effects. In this study, we introduced a series of cationic amphiphilic molecules, fatty alcohol esters (TA6, TA8, and TA9) of tranexamic acid (TA), which self-assembled into low-molecular-weight gels (LMWGs) in water.

The isomerization of internal alkynes ArC≡CAr within the coordination environment of low-valent half-sandwich [Ru(dppe)Cp] complexes via a 1,2-migration process affords vinylidene species [Ru{=C=C(Ar)Ar}(dppe)Cp]. The rearrangement reactions of symmetrically and asymmetrically substituted substrates featuring different electron-donating and -withdrawing groups and of varying steric bulk were modelled using density functional theory (DFT), and the conclusions supported by experimental observations. Examination of the reaction pathway and associated activation barriers reveal a high solvent dependency for the generation of the key intermediate species [Ru(dppe)Cp] from [RuCl(dppe)Cp] by halide dissociation in the presence of Na salts of weakly coordinating anions, with the lattice enthalpy of the NaCl by-product playing a critical role in the overall thermochemical balance of the reaction.

Background: Sexual health is an imperative area of study in medical school education, yet many medical schools do not offer a comprehensive curriculum nor is it standardized across the United States (US).
Aim: This study aims to assess written curriculum materials from sexual health curricula in medical schools across the northeast region of the US and compare the current teachings to suggested standards.
Methods: A compilation of academic resources including lecture materials and syllabi were systematically reviewed utilizing a standardized and validated rubric with variables assessed including: biological and psychological aspects of human sexual development, anatomy and physiology of the human sexual response cycle, sexual health in relation to human reproduction, and contraceptive options.

Background & objectives Injuries profoundly impact global health, with substantial deaths and disabilities, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This paper presents strategic consensus from the Transdisciplinary Research, Advocacy, and Implementation Network for Trauma in India (TRAIN Trauma India) symposium, advocating for enhanced, system-level trauma care to address this challenge. Methods Five working groups conducted separate literature reviews on pre-hospital trauma care, in-hospital trauma resuscitation and training, trauma systems, trauma registries, and India's Towards Improving Trauma Care Outcomes (TITCO) registry.

Neurodiversity is a social justice movement at the nexus of neuroscience, academia, and public policy. A contemporary view of neurodiversity is one that embraces neurological differences, encompassing all "neurotypes," including more specific identifiers like autistic or dyslexic. The goal of this study was to investigate student awareness and perception of neurodiversity since they are the next generation of public policy makers.

Boston Marathon, Boston Athletic Association, Boston, USA.
The Boston Marathon is a highly regarded event in the running world, not just for its prestige and challenging course, but also for its implementation of a psychology team to support runners. The 2013 Boston Marathon bombings underscored the essential role that mental health support plays at this event, prompting the development and expansion of its innovative care model. This review critically outlines, evaluates, and analyzes the approach and effectiveness of the psychological care model provided to runners on race day as part of the Boston Marathon medical team, including the standard of care, how it functions, and best practices for other marathons.

Importance: In 2022, the US House of Representatives passed a bipartisan resolution (House of Representatives Resolution 1118 at the 117th Congress [2021-2022]) calling for meaningful nutrition education for medical trainees. This was prompted by increasing health care spending attributed to the growing prevalence of nutrition-related diseases and the substantial federal funding via Medicare that supports graduate medical education. In March 2023, medical education professional organizations agreed to identify nutrition competencies for medical education.

Introduction: We showed in a phase II randomised controlled trial (RCT) that oral sildenafil citrate in term labour halved operative birth for fetal distress. We outline the protocol for a phase III RCT (can ntrapartum ildnafil safely vert the isks of ontraction-induced ypoxia? (iSEARCH)) of 3200 women in Australia to assess if sildenafil citrate reduces adverse perinatal outcomes related to intrapartum hypoxia.
Methods And Analysis: iSEARCH will enrol 3200 Australian women in term labour to determine whether up to three 50 mg oral doses of sildenafil citrate versus placebo reduce the relative risk of a primary composite end point of 10 perinatal outcomes potentially related to intrapartum hypoxia by 35% (from 7% to 4.

Australia commenced administration of the Spikevax (Moderna mRNA-1273) COVID-19 vaccine in August 2021 and Nuvaxovid (Novavax NVX-CoV2373) in January 2022. This study describes the short-term safety profile of priming doses of the Spikevax and Nuvaxovid vaccines given between September 2021 and September 2023. Online surveys were sent via AusVaxSafety, Australia's active vaccine safety surveillance system, three and eight days after vaccination.

Genetic diagnosis plays a crucial role in rare diseases, particularly with the increasing availability of emerging and accessible treatments. The International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (IRDiRC) has set its primary goal as: "Ensuring that all patients who present with a suspected rare disease receive a diagnosis within one year if their disorder is documented in the medical literature". Despite significant advances in genomic sequencing technologies, more than half of the patients with suspected Mendelian disorders remain undiagnosed.

Background: The role of eating habits in adolescent mental health has become a growing area of interest for researchers and health professionals. Recent studies suggest that healthy eating habits may play a role in the development and management of mental health. However, existing literature is largely based on clinical populations, and comparisons are challenged by sociocultural differences and methodological issues.

A vast literature highlights the prevalence of impulsive decision making in maladaptive outcomes. Most research has focused on one form-delay discounting. Less research has focused on effort discounting, possibly because of a lack of a standardized task for assessment.
