In the presence of NADPH, rat liver microsomes catalyzed the degradation of a series of 1,3-dialkyl-3-acyltriazenes, and the extent of the reaction was correlated with compound lipophilicity. In the case of two methylcarbamoyltriazenes, 1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-benzyl-3- (methylcarbamoyl)triazene (CBzM) and 1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-methyl-3-(methylcarbamoyl)triazene (CMM), microsomal metabolites were isolated. Identification of the CBzM metabolites as 1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-benzyl-3-(hydroxymethylcarbamoyl)triazene and 1-(2-chloroethyl-3-benzyl-3-carbamoyltriazine, and the CMM metabolite as 1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-methyl-3-(hydroxymethylcarbamoyl)triazene indicated that the first metabolic step involves hydroxylation of the methylcarbamoyl substituent.

Cold exposure, activity and energy deficit have been associated with changes in body composition and/or changes in serum thyroid hormones. Because these conditions are present during the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, 10 volunteer participants were studied before and after the race. Body composition, total thyroxine (TT4), free thyroxine (FT4), total triiodothyronine (TT3), and free triiodothyronine (FT) levels were determined.

Vision problems are more common among deaf people than among the general population. Eight percent of the students in schools and programs for deaf children can be expected to have vision problems. We sent questionnaires to institutions and programs for deaf children, requesting information about the extent of vision problems among their students and about their teachers' levels of preparation in the area of vision impairment.

In investigating possible explanations for social skills deficits in students with learning disabilities, researchers have examined social perception-the interpretation of behavior in order to understand the thoughts and feelings of others. This study specifically examined cognitive correlates of social perception in individuals with learning disabilities. Thirty-two students with learning disabilities in elementary grades were measured on three subtests (Comprehension, Picture Arrangement, and Digit Span) of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised and on the Profile of Nonverbal Sensitivity.
