Felty syndrome is a condition seen in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, marked by a combination of neutropenia (low neutrophil count), splenomegaly (enlarged spleen), and often accompanies seropositive rheumatoid arthritis.
A case study described an 81-year-old man with a 22-year history of rheumatoid arthritis who developed neutropenia and splenomegaly, leading to a diagnosis of Felty syndrome after ruling out other conditions via a bone marrow biopsy.
The patient initially received methotrexate without improvement, but after switching to abatacept treatment, he experienced significant increases in his blood cell counts.
