Association of Changes in Relevant Indicators With Cardiovascular Disease and Osteoporosis in Perimenopausal and Postmenopausal Women.

The essence of menopause is ovarian failure, decreased estrogen volatility, and deficiency leading to multiple related symptoms and an increased risk of metabolic disease in women, such as cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. This study screened 773 eligible postmenopausal and perimenopausal women from an initial pool of 1187 participants, and various physiological and biochemical indices were measured and analyzed to assess differences across three age groups (40-44 years, 45-49 years, 50-54). We found no significant difference in the rate of cardiovascular disease between postmenopausal and perimenopausal women, while the rate of osteoporosis was higher in postmenopausal women compared to perimenopausal women.

Head and neck cancer: pathogenesis and targeted therapy.

Head and neck cancer (HNC) is a highly aggressive type of tumor characterized by delayed diagnosis, recurrence, metastasis, relapse, and drug resistance. The occurrence of HNC were associated with smoking, alcohol abuse (or both), human papillomavirus infection, and complex genetic and epigenetic predisposition. Currently, surgery and radiotherapy are the standard treatments for most patients with early-stage HNC.

Identifying a competency improvement strategy for infection prevention and control professionals: A rapid systematic review and cluster analysis.

Remarkable progress has been made in infection prevention and control (IPC) in many countries, but some gaps emerged in the context of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Core capabilities such as standard clinical precautions and tracing the source of infection were the focus of IPC in medical institutions during the pandemic. Therefore, the core competences of IPC professionals during the pandemic, and how these contributed to successful prevention and control of the epidemic, should be studied.

Alterations in microbiota of patients with COVID-19: implications for therapeutic interventions.

Long-term effects of prenatal magnesium sulfate exposure on nervous system development in preterm-born children.

This study used structural magnetic resonance imaging to analyze changes in the gray matter volume (GMV) of preterm-born (PTB) and term-born (TB) children to help elucidate the influence of magnesium sulfate treatment on the nervous system development. A total of 51 subjects were recruited, including 28 PTB and 23 TB children. The intelligence scale and MRI scan were completed at the corrected age of 10 to 16 years.

SARS-CoV-2 spike protein harnesses SNX27-mediated endocytic recycling pathway.

SARS-CoV-2 is an enveloped positive-sense RNA virus that depends on host factors for all stages of its life. Membrane receptor ACE2 is a well-established factor for SARS-CoV-2 docking. In addition to ACE2, whole-genome genetic screens have identified additional proteins, such as endosomal trafficking regulators SNX27 and retromer, as key host factors required for SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Labor induction in pregnancy complicated by myelodysplastic syndrome: A case report.

Clinical Characteristics and Risk Factors of Cardiac Involvement in COVID-19.

Background Increasing studies demonstrated that the cardiac involvements are related to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Thus, we investigated the clinical characteristics of patients with COVID-19 and further determined the risk factors for cardiac involvement in them. Methods and Results We analyzed data from 102 consecutive laboratory-confirmed and hospitalized patients with COVID-19 (52 women aged 19-87 years).

Intermedin promotes vessel fusion by inducing VE-cadherin accumulation at potential fusion sites and to achieve a dynamic balance between VE-cadherin-complex dissociation/reconstitution.

To create a closed vascular system, angiogenic sprouts must meet and connect in a process called vessel fusion, which is a prerequisite for establishment of proper blood flow in nascent vessels. However, the molecular machinery underlying this process remains largely unknown. Herein, we report that intermedin (IMD), a calcitonin family member, promotes vessel fusion by inducing endothelial cells (ECs) to enter a "ready-to-anchor" state.

The experience of the multidisciplinary team in epilepsy management from a resource-limited country.

Objective: The use of multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) is a global trend in disease management, while China is still at the exploratory stage MDTs. We aimed to summarize our experience and assess the impact of MDT use in managing patients with epilepsy and optimizing their seizure outcomes.

Methods: Our MDT is staffed with skilled epileptologists, electroencephalography experts, neurosurgeons, child neurologists, radiologists, and psychiatrists.
