Metal and metal oxide nanoparticles (NPs) have been increasingly utilized in many industries to harness their documented antibacterial properties. However, the mechanism(s) of action is still debated in the literature. The aim of this study is to understand how changes in outer membrane charge of a test bacteria alter the antibacterial activity of ZnO NPs of average sizes of 20 nM and 60 nM.

Dissolved oxygen (DO) is one of the critical parameters representing water quality in coastal environments. However, it is labor- and cost-intensive to maintain monitoring systems of DO since in situ measurements of DO are needed in high spatial and temporal resolution to establish proper management plans of coastal regions. In this study, we applied statistical analyses between long-term monitoring datasets and satellite remote sensing datasets in the eastern coastal region of the Yellow Sea.

Psychological co-morbidities common in polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) may contribute to disordered eating and subsequent weight gain. This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the prevalence of disordered eating and a range of eating disorders and demographic risk factors associated with these behaviours within an Australian group of women with and without PCOS. Data from 899 women with ( = 501) and without ( = 398) PCOS were analysed as possibly indicative of disordered eating or eating disorders using the Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) and The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition (DSM-5) criteria.

Matern Child Health J

December 2019

The Organization for Public Health Interventions and Development Trust (OPHID), 20 Cork Road, Belgravia, Harare, Zimbabwe.

Objectives: Social environmental influences on pregnancy-related practices and outcomes have been studied, yet few studies explore these influences qualitatively from the perspectives of women's personal social networks and the larger social networks that exist within their communities. Ammunition primers consisting of a mixture of lead styphnate, barium nitrate, and antimony (III) sulfide, upon deflagration, lead to the formation of inorganic gunshot residue (GSR). The cations, from their predeflagration form, undergo reduction reactions during burning to form the classic spheroidal, micron-sized particles indicative of GSR. However, the rapidly changing pressure and temperature of the reaction zone implies that the reactions cannot go to completion.

DelPhi Suite: New Developments and Review of Functionalities.

J Comput Chem

October 2019

Department of Physics and Astronomy, Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina, 29634.

Electrostatic potential, energies, and forces affect virtually any process in molecular biology, however, computing these quantities is a difficult task due to irregularly shaped macromolecules and the presence of water. Here, we report a new edition of the popular software package DelPhi along with describing its functionalities. The new DelPhi is a C++ object-oriented package supporting various levels of multiprocessing and memory distribution.

Malaria infection has posed a major health threat for hundreds of years in human history. Yet, due to the complex interactions between a host immune response and the parasite, no sophisticated mathematical models exist to study its dynamics. In this work, we propose a new system of structured partial differential equations that account for the dependence of red blood cell infectivity on maturation level.

Although running shoes alter foot-ground reaction forces, particularly during impact, how they do so is incompletely understood. Here, we hypothesized that footwear effects on running ground reaction force-time patterns can be accurately predicted from the motion of two components of the body's mass (m): the contacting lower-limb (m = 0.08m) and the remainder (m = 0.

Investigating the Effects of Cultural-Mindset Priming on Evaluation of Job Performance Behaviors.

Eur J Psychol

November 2018

Human Capital Consultant, Deloitte, Philadelphia, PA, USA.

Recent reviews of performance evaluation process and practices indicate that there is substantial variability in the structure and formalization of performance evaluations in organizations across cultures and call for further exploration of the role of cultural variables on the performance evaluation process. In the current study, we use self-construal priming procedures to evaluate the effects of cultural mindset on the performance evaluation process. Specifically, the effects of independent (individualistic) and interdependent (collectivistic) mindset priming on relative importance given to performance behaviors when making judgments of overall job performance was investigated.

Neural tube defects are common and serious birth defects in which the brain and/or spinal cord are exposed outside the body. Supplementation of foods with folic acid, an essential vitamin, is linked to a lower risk of neural tube defects; however, the mechanisms by which folic acid influence neural tube defect risk are unclear. Our research seeks to identify the basic cellular roles of known folic acid metabolism genes during morphogenesis using the roundworm Caenorhabditis elegans (C.
