Nanoparticle-assembled interconnected PbO hollow spheres enabled by PVP-driven transformation of β-PbO and self-sacrificial templating for superior lithium storage.

Nanoscale

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Advanced Energy Storage and Conversion of Wenzhou, Key Laboratory of Carbon Materials of Zhejiang Province, College of Chemistry and Materials Engineering, Wenzhou University, Wenzhou 325035, P. R. China.

Lead oxides (PbO, 1 ≤ ≤ 2) are promising high-capacity and low-cost anodes for lithium ion batteries (LIBs). However, the huge lithiation-induced volume expansion of conventional large-sized PbO particles leads to severe electrode pulverization with poor cycling stability. Herein, a rare mixed-valence PbO with a unique hierarchical architecture of nanoparticle-assembled interconnected hollow spheres (denoted PbO NAHSs) is crafted by introducing polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) into the solution of generating β-PbO microspheres (MSs), which is exploited for the first time as a potential advanced anode material for LIBs.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), a significant pathogen affecting the swine industry globally, has been shown to manipulate host cell processes, including autophagy, to facilitate its replication and survival within the host. Autophagy, an intracellular degradation process crucial for maintaining cellular homeostasis, can be hijacked by viruses for their own benefit. During PRRSV infection, autophagy plays a complex role, both as a defense mechanism of the host and as a tool exploited by the virus.

Background: Dicer1 plays a crucial role in regulating the development and reproduction of insects. Knockout of Dicer1 causes pupal deformity, low eclosion and low fecundity in Plutella xylostella, but the mechanism behind this phenomenon is not clear. This study aims to identify differentially-expressed genes and miRNAs in the Dicer1-knockout strain (ΔPxDcr-1) and assess their impact on the reproduction and development of P.

Front Public Health

May 2024

Wenzhou Vocational College of Science and Technology, Wenzhou Key Laboratory of Adding Carbon Sinks and Reducing Carbon Emissions of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery Ecosystem, Wenzhou, China.

In order to explore the impact of experience in forest-based health and wellness (FHW) on the stress of middle-aged people, 12 participants aged 35-39 were selected to conduct a 3-day/2-night study on FHW experience in Wencheng, Wenzhou. Huawei bracelets were used to monitor participants' movement, pulse and blood pressure and their mood state was measured before and after the health care experience using the Profile of Mood States (POMS) scale. After the FHW experience, the lowest value of bracelet stress appeared on the second day of the experience for men and women.

In this study, ω-3 medium- and long-chain triacylglycerols (MLCTs) microcapsules with excellent performance were obtained using soy protein as the wall component to address the oxidation-related problems of MLCTs. Additionally, the effect of soy, whey, or pea proteins on microcapsules in terms of the changes in their structure and physicochemical properties was investigated. The results showed that the small particle size, low PDI (polydispersity index) and zeta potential, fast adsorption rate, and low interfacial tension of these protein-based samples fabricated through the O/W template method were conducive to maintaining the integrity of microcapsules during spray-drying.

In order to study the responses of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) WRKY TFs to bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum, the most up-to-date genomes and transcriptional profiles were used to identify WRKY TFs in control and infected inbred lines. In total, 85 tomato WRKY TFs were identified and categorized into groups I, IIa + b, IIc, IId + e, and III. These WRKYs, especially those from group IIe, were mainly distributed at chromosome ends and in clusters.

Design of N-N ylide bond-based high energy density materials: a theoretical survey.

RSC Adv

January 2024

Inner Mongolia Key Laboratory of Photoelectric Functional Materials, College of Chemistry and Life Science, Chifeng University Chifeng 024000 China

The generally encountered contradiction between large energy content and stability poses great difficulty in designing nitrogen-rich high-energy-density materials. Although N-N ylide bonds have been classified as the fourth type of homonuclear N-N bonds (besides >N-N<, -N[double bond, length as m-dash]N-, and N[triple bond, length as m-dash]N), accessible energetic molecules with N-N ylide bonds have rarely been explored. In this study, 225 molecules with six types of novel structures containing N-N ylide bonds were designed using density functional theory and CBS-QB3 methods.

Human MARCH1, 2, and 8 block Ebola virus envelope glycoprotein cleavage via targeting furin P domain.

J Med Virol

February 2024

Nanchong Key Laboratory of Disease Prevention, Control and Detection in Livestock and Poultry, Nanchong Vocational and Technical College, Nanchong, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • MARCH family proteins, particularly MARCH1, MARCH2, and MARCH8, inhibit Ebola virus replication by blocking the maturation of its glycoprotein (GP).
  • MARCH1 and MARCH2 reduce the presence of EBOV GP on the cell surface and hinder the infectivity of EBOV GP-pseudotyped viruses.
  • The study highlights that the host enzyme furin interacts with MARCH1/2 and EBOV GP, suggesting a conserved mechanism among mammalian MARCH proteins that could inform future antiviral strategies.

General mechanisms of weak acid-tolerance and current strategies for the development of tolerant yeasts.

World J Microbiol Biotechnol

December 2023

Institute of Life Sciences, College of Life and Environmental Science, Wenzhou University, Wenzhou, Zhejiang, 325035, PR China.

Yeast cells are often subjected to various types of weak acid stress in the process of industrial production, food processing, and preservation, resulting in growth inhibition and reduced fermentation performance. Under acidic conditions, weak acids enter the near-neutral yeast cytoplasm and dissociate into protons and anions, leading to cytoplasmic acidification and cell damage. Although some yeast strains have developed the ability to survive weak acids, the complexity and diversity of stresses during industrial production still require the application of appropriate strategies for phenotypes improvement.
