The present study analyzed the correlations between curcumin(Cur), nuclear factor E2 related factor 2(NRF2)-dimethylarginine dimethylaminohydrolase(DDAH)-asymmetric dimethylarginine(ADMA)-nitric oxide(NO) pathway, and endothelial-mesenchymal transition(EndMT) based on SD rats with cardiac fibrosis, and explored the effect and mechanism of Cur in resisting cardiac fibrosis to provide an in-depth theoretical basis for its clinical application in the treatment of heart failure. The cardiac fibrosis model was induced by subcutaneous injection of isoprenaline(Iso) in rats. Thirty-two rats were randomly divided into a control group, a model group, a low-dose Cur group(100 mg·kg~(-1)·d~(-1)), and a high-dose Cur group(200 mg·kg~(-1)·d~(-1)), with eight in each group.

As a member of the catenin family, δ-catenin is overexpressed in many cancers, including prostate cancer, and the role of δ-catenin in prostate tumor growth has been reported. However, the involvement of δ-catenin in the migration and invasion of prostate cancer has rarely been studied. In this study, we innovatively proposed that δ-catenin would enhance the migration and invasion ability of prostate cancer cells.

Background: Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has emerged as a noninvasive therapeutic modality that involves sonosensitizers and low-intensity ultrasound. However, owing to the rapid recombination of charge carriers, most of the sonosensitizers triggered poor reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, resulting in unsatisfactory sonodynamic therapeutic effects.

Results: Herein, a photo/sono-responsive nanoplatform was developed through the in-situ systhesis of TiO on the surface of two-dimensional MXene (titanium carbide, TiC) for photoacoustic/photothermal bimodal imaging-guided near-infrared II (NIR-II) photothermal enhanced SDT of tumor.

Many studies have confirmed that the CENPK gene regulates the progression of cancers, but its specific molecular mechanism remains unidentified, as does its significance in the analysis of human cancers. We specify a comprehensive genomic architecture of the CENPK gene associated with the tumor immune microenvironment and its clinical relevance across a broad spectrum of solid tumors. Statistics from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Cancer Cell Line Encyclopedia (CCLE) of over 30 solid tumors were examined.

Department of Clinical Laboratory, The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou Medical University Wenzhou 325000, Zhejiang, China.

Article Synopsis
  • * Studies show increased IL-6 levels in pancreatic cancer patients' blood but low expression in cancer cells, highlighting a complex mechanism involving fibroblasts and the Jagged/Notch signaling pathway.
  • * Research indicates that targeting the Jagged/Notch signaling pathway and IL-6 production may reduce hypercoagulability in pancreatic cancer, offering potential new treatments for affected patients.

Importance: LIM domain only 1 () gene polymorphisms were previously found to be implicated in the risk of several cancers. No available studies were performed regarding the predisposing effect of gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on central nervous system (CNS) tumor risk.

Objective: We aimed to determine whether the gene SNPs were associated with the risk of CNS tumor by applying a case-control study with 191 cases and 248 controls in China.

This paper has proposed an effective intelligent prediction model that can well discriminate and specify the severity of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection in clinical diagnosis and provide a criterion for clinicians to weigh scientific and rational medical decision-making. With indicators as the age and gender of the patients and 26 blood routine indexes, a severity prediction framework for COVID-19 is proposed based on machine learning techniques. The framework consists mainly of a random forest and a support vector machine (SVM) model optimized by a slime mould algorithm (SMA).

This study is devoted to proposing a useful intelligent prediction model to distinguish the severity of COVID-19, to provide a more fair and reasonable reference for assisting clinical diagnostic decision-making. Based on patients' necessary information, pre-existing diseases, symptoms, immune indexes, and complications, this article proposes a prediction model using the Harris hawks optimization (HHO) to optimize the Fuzzy K-nearest neighbor (FKNN), which is called HHO-FKNN. This model is utilized to distinguish the severity of COVID-19.

Objective: the objective of this study is to explore the effect of a self-management mode on hemodialysis in autogenous arteriovenous fistula patients, and assess the improvement in their self-care, as well as the management and protection abilities of patients through the self-management mode, so as to improve the quality of dialysis.

Method: A total of 100 patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis, who have autogenous fistula and were cared for in the First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from August 2019 to February 2020 were selected. All patients were divided into either an experimental group (group A, 50 people) or a control group (group B, 50 people), at random.

Previously, beetroot is mainly consumed as a food additive. In recent years, the beetroot, especially the betalains (betanin) and nitrates it contains, now has received increasing attention for their effective biological activity. Betalains have been proven to eliminate oxidative and nitrative stress by scavenging DPPH, preventing DNA damage, and reducing LDL.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a malignant tumor that accounts for the most new cancer cases and cancer-related deaths worldwide, and the proliferation and metastasis of NSCLC are the main reasons for treatment failure and patient death. Traditional chemotherapeutic drugs have low selectivity, which can kill cancer cells and cause damage to normal cells at the same time. Therefore, it is particularly important to study therapies that target cancer cells and to find low-toxicity, high-efficiency anticancer drugs.

Objective: Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common chronic diseases, which is characterized by cartilage degeneration, subchondral osteosclerosis, and synovitis. Accumulating evidence has shown that galangin, a flavonoid derived from medicinal herbs, exhibits numerous pharmacological activities in various diseases. This study aimed to investigate the effects of galangin on interleukin (IL)-1β-induced inflammation in mouse chondrocytes and explore the underlying mechanisms.

Recently, we have shown that δ-catenin strengthened the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)/Erk1/2 signaling pathway through the association between EGFR and δ-catenin. Now, we further analyzed the correlation between basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF)/fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) and δ-catenin in prostate cancer and investigated the molecular mechanism underlying the role of bFGF/FGFR1 modulation in CWR22Rv-1 (Rv-1) cells. Here, we demonstrated that bFGF phosphorylated the tyrosine residues of δ-catenin in Rv-1 cells and further proved that the bFGF mediated FGFR1/δ-catenin tyrosine phosphorylation was time dependent.

Accumulating evidence demonstrates that the expression levels of programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) and programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) are regulated at the various levels, including transcription, post-transcriptional modification and post-translational modifications (PTMs). The PTMs of PD-1/PD-L1 contain phosphorylation, ubiquitination, methylation, glycosylation and palmitoylation. Recently, PD-L1 was reported to be acetylated at Lys263 site by p300 and was deacetylated by histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2).
