Aims: Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) can develop into cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma but no specific drugs are available. Fenofibrate is therapeutically effective in ALD, however, the exact mechanism remains unknown. We explored the hub genes of ALD and the role of fenofibrate in ALD.

Objective: Neuropathic pain (NP) plays an important role in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA). However, the prevalence of NP at different treatment stages including outpatient, awaiting and after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) have not been compared. The understanding of this issue and identify risk factors can help physicians develop individualized strategies to manage the pain of KOA.

RefineNet-based 2D and 3D automatic segmentations for clinical target volume and organs at risks for patients with cervical cancer in postoperative radiotherapy.

Purpose: An accurate and reliable target volume delineation is critical for the safe and successful radiotherapy. The purpose of this study is to develop new 2D and 3D automatic segmentation models based on RefineNet for clinical target volume (CTV) and organs at risk (OARs) for postoperative cervical cancer based on computed tomography (CT) images.

Methods: A 2D RefineNet and 3D RefineNetPlus3D were adapted and built to automatically segment CTVs and OARs on a total of 44 222 CT slices of 313 patients with stage I-III cervical cancer.

The Effects of Automatic Segmentations on Preoperative Lymph Node Status Prediction Models With Ultrasound Radiomics for Patients With Early Stage Cervical Cancer.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of automatic segmentation algorithms on the performance of ultrasound (US) radiomics models in predicting the status of lymph node metastasis (LNM) for patients with early stage cervical cancer preoperatively. US images of 148 cervical cancer patients were collected and manually contoured by two senior radiologists. The four deep learning-based automatic segmentation models, namely U-net, context encoder network (CE-net), Resnet, and attention U-net were constructed to segment the tumor volumes automatically.

Differentiate Thyroid Follicular Adenoma from Carcinoma with Combined Ultrasound Radiomics Features and Clinical Ultrasound Features.

Noninvasive differentiating thyroid follicular adenoma from carcinoma preoperatively is of great clinical value to decrease the risks resulted from excessive surgery for patients with follicular neoplasm. The purpose of this study is to investigate the accuracy of ultrasound radiomics features integrating with ultrasound features in the differentiation between thyroid follicular carcinoma and adenoma. A total of 129 patients diagnosed as thyroid follicular neoplasm with pathologically confirmed follicular adenoma and carcinoma were enrolled and analyzed retrospectively.

The Accuracy and Radiomics Feature Effects of Multiple U-net-Based Automatic Segmentation Models for Transvaginal Ultrasound Images of Cervical Cancer.

Ultrasound (US) imaging has been recognized and widely used as a screening and diagnostic imaging modality for cervical cancer all over the world. However, few studies have investigated the U-net-based automatic segmentation models for cervical cancer on US images and investigated the effects of automatic segmentations on radiomics features. A total of 1102 transvaginal US images from 796 cervical cancer patients were collected and randomly divided into training (800), validation (100) and test sets (202), respectively, in this study.

Population-based associations between progression of normal-tension glaucoma and Yang-deficient constitution among Chinese persons.

Purpose: To explore the association between constitution types as defined by traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and risk for normal-tension glaucoma (NTG).

Design: Population-based cohort study.

Methods: Persons were identified in a population cohort aged ≥30 years with NTG, defined as having an untreated mean intraocular pressure measurement ≤21 mm Hg over six separate occasions, with no single reading >24 mm Hg (as in the Collaborative Normal Tension Glaucoma Study).

Study of surface activation markers on CD3 CD16 NK cells and their correlation with clinical manifestations in children with infectious mononucleosis.

This study aimed to investigate the proportion of surface activation markers on natural killer (NK) cells in children with infectious mononucleosis (IM) and to explore its clinical relevance. A total of 17 children hospitalized with IM were included in this study as the experimental group. Meanwhile, healthy children matched for age and gender served as controls.

High-Risk Human Papillomavirus Testing, Genotyping, and Histopathologic Follow-up in Women With Abnormal Glandular Cells on Papanicolaou Tests.

Objectives: This study examined the association of high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) status and HPV genotype with histopathologic follow-ups in women with an atypical glandular cell (AGC) interpretation.

Methods: Cases with AGC interpretation on a Papanicolaou (Pap) test were retrieved along with hrHPV testing, genotyping, and histologic follow-up results if available.

Results: A total of 561 AGC cases were identified, with histologic follow-up available for 471 cases (84%).

Multiple U-Net-Based Automatic Segmentations and Radiomics Feature Stability on Ultrasound Images for Patients With Ovarian Cancer.

Few studies have reported the reproducibility and stability of ultrasound (US) images based radiomics features obtained from automatic segmentation in oncology. The purpose of this study is to study the accuracy of automatic segmentation algorithms based on multiple U-net models and their effects on radiomics features from US images for patients with ovarian cancer. A total of 469 US images from 127 patients were collected and randomly divided into three groups: training sets (353 images), validation sets (23 images), and test sets (93 images) for automatic segmentation models building.

Metabolomics-based multidimensional network biomarkers for diabetic retinopathy identification in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Introduction: Despite advances in diabetic retinopathy (DR) medications, early identification is vitally important for DR administration and remains a major challenge. This study aims to develop a novel system of multidimensional network biomarkers (MDNBs) based on a widely targeted metabolomics approach to detect DR among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) efficiently.

Research Design And Methods: In this propensity score matching-based case-control study, we used ultra-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry system for serum metabolites assessment of 69 pairs of patients with T2DM with DR (cases) and without DR (controls).

Detection of Parental Contribution to Molar Genome Leads to Diagnosis of Recurrent Hydatidiform Mole in a Family with Variants.

Genetically, complete hydatidiform mole (CHM) is androgenetic diploid, containing two sets of paternal chromosomes. In most cases, recurrent HM (RHM) is CHM but has diploid biparental chromosome constitution. We report a mother with RHM, both with biparental diploidy.

Association between vitamin D and uterine fibroids: a study protocol of an open-label, randomised controlled trial.

Introduction: Uterine fibroids are the most common pelvic benign tumour with no satisfactory long-term medical treatment. Recent studies have demonstrated that vitamin D significantly inhibited the growth of fibroids in vitro, vivo and a small-sample clinical trial. Therefore, the aim of this randomised clinical trial (RCT) is to evaluate whether supplementation with vitamin D could reduce the risk and inhibit the growth of uterine fibroids in reproductive stage women.

Traditional Chinese medicine has usually been recognized to be efficacious to treat chronic diseases from the western point-of-view. However, there is a long history in China of applying traditional Chinese medicine in many acute and urgent medical conditions. In this review, selected methods documented in traditional Chinese medicine including blowing air to ear, nose insufflating therapy, acupuncture and moxibustion were presented as the common practices to promote consciousness recovery from coma.

The prevalence, characteristics, and related factors of pressure injury in medical staff wearing personal protective equipment against COVID-19 in China: A multicentre cross-sectional survey.

Since December 2019, the medical staff fighting against COVID-19 frequently reported the device-related pressure injury (DRPI) caused by personal protective equipment (PPE). We conducted a cross-sectional survey online to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of DRPI among medical staff. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were employed to explore the risk factors associated with DRPI.

Enteral nutrition feeding in Chinese intensive care units: a cross-sectional study involving 116 hospitals.

Background: There is a lack of large-scale epidemiological data on the clinical practice of enteral nutrition (EN) feeding in China. This study aimed to provide such data on Chinese hospitals and to investigate factors associated with EN delivery.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was launched in 118 intensive care units (ICUs) of 116 mainland hospitals and conducted on April 26, 2017.

AMP-activated protein kinase-dependent induction of autophagy by erythropoietin protects against spinal cord injury in rats.

Aims: Autophagy has been regarded as a promising therapeutic target for spinal cord injury (SCI). Erythropoietin (EPO) has been demonstrated to exhibit neuroprotective effects in the central nervous system (CNS); however, the molecular mechanisms of its protection against SCI remain unknown. This study aims to investigate whether the neuroprotective effects of EPO on SCI are mediated by autophagy via AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathways.

All-Inside Single-Bundle Reconstruction of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament with the Anterior Half of the Peroneus Longus Tendon Compared to the Semitendinosus Tendon: A Two-Year Follow-Up Study.

The anterior half of the peroneus longus tendon (AHPLT) has been reported to be acceptable for ligament reconstruction with respect to strength and safety. However, there is little information regarding the clinical outcomes after using the AHPLT compared with other autograft tendons. A prospective randomized controlled study was performed to compare the results of 62 cases of all-inside anatomical single-bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using the AHPLT and 62 cases using semitendinosus graft with an average of 30.

Tarlov Cyst Is Correlated with a Short Broad Terminal of the Thecal Sac.

 In clinical practice, we noted that the end section of the thecal sac is apparently different in patients with Tarlov cyst compared with that of the normal population. We conducted this clinical study based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).  Our study included 30 patients with Tarlov cyst and 30 healthy volunteers as the control.
