Identifying septic shock subgroups to tailor fluid strategies through multi-omics integration.

Nat Commun

October 2024

Department of Emergency Medicine, Provincial Key Laboratory of Precise Diagnosis and Treatment of Abdominal Infection, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Fluid management is crucial for treating septic shock, but a one-size-fits-all approach is ineffective.
  • This study analyzed 494 septic shock patients, creating a statistical model using transcriptomics to identify who benefits most from restrictive fluid strategies.
  • The model suggests that adhering to the recommended fluid strategy could reduce hospital mortality rates, supported by a proteomic signature of six proteins that helps predict which patients are likely to benefit from this approach.
