Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most prevalent primary liver cancer with limited treatment options. Lobetyolin (LBT), a polyacetylene glycoside mainly extracted from the roots of Codonopsis pilosula, has been reported to have anti-tumor efficancy in various cancers. However, the role of LBT as well as its underlying mechanisms in HCC remain unclear.

Effect of Bone Marrow Stromal Cells Derived miR-26b on Chondrocytes of Osteoporosis Rats.

Objective: Osteoporosis is a common bone disease. miR-26b regulates OA-induced osteogenesis and induces osteoporosis. miR-26b is elevated in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) during bone formation; however, we haven't fully revealed whether it is directly involved in this process, which was the aim of this study.

Clinical value of Vitamin-D combined with budesonide/formoterol and theophylline sodium glycinate sustained-release tablets in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients.

Objective: To explore the clinical value of Vitamin-D combined with budesonide/formoterol (BF) and theophylline sodium glycinate (TSG) sustained-release tablets in the treatment of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Methods: Medical records of 114 patients with CODP, treated in Wenzhou Geriatric Hospital from October 2020 to February 2023, were retrospectively analyzed. Of them, 59 received treatment with Vitamin-D combined with BF and TSG sustained-release tablets (Group-A), and 55 patients received treatment with BF combined with TSG sustained-release tablets (Group-B).

Effects of Nighttime Noise Management in Intensive Care Units on Hormone Levels and Sleep Quality in Conscious Patients.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the effects of nighttime noise management in intensive care units (ICU) on hormone levels and sleep quality in conscious patients.

Methods: From March 2020 to March 2021, the routine noise management for conscious patients was implemented in the ICU of Wenzhou TCM Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University. During this time, 86 patients were selected as the study subjects; five patients who did not meet the inclusion criteria were excluded, and 81 patients were included in the reference group.

Research on the Mechanism and Application of Acupuncture Therapy for Asthma: A Review.

Asthma is a high-risk disease based on airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR). In this review, we found that there are many studies on clinical therapy for asthma that focus on the efficacy of acupuncture therapy and its mechanisms, including the functional connectivity of different brain regions, with the aid of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), immune responses/cell recognition (innate lymphoid cells and balance of Th1/Th2 and Treg/Th17), intracellular mechanism (autophagy, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and epigenetic alteration), and ligand-receptor/chemical signaling pathway (neurotransmitter, hormone, and small molecules). In this review, we summarized the clinical and experimental evidence for the mechanisms of acupuncture therapy in asthma to offer insights into drug discovery and clinical therapy.

Background: Zygotic genome activation (ZGA) is an important event in the early embryo development, and human embryo developmental arrest has been highly correlated with ZGA failure in clinical studies. A Robust TabNet-Based Multi-Classification Algorithm for Infrared Spectral Data of Chinese Herbal Medicine with High-Dimensional Small Samples.

Robust classification algorithms for high-dimensional, small-sample datasets are valuable in practical applications. Faced with the infrared spectroscopic dataset with 568 samples and 3448 wavelengths (features) to identify the origins of Chinese medicinal materials, this paper proposed a novel embedded multiclassification algorithm, ITabNet, derived from the framework of TabNet. Firstly, a refined data pre-processing (DP) mechanism was designed to efficiently find the best adaptive one among 50 DP methods with the help of Support Vector Machine (SVM).

A bibliometric analysis of international publication trends in brain atrophy research (2008-2023).

Background: Brain atrophy is a type of neurological and psychiatric disorder characterized by a decrease in brain tissue volume and weight for various reasons and can have a serious impact on the quality of life of patients. Although there are many studies on brain atrophy, there is a lack of relevant bibliometric studies. Therefore, this study aims to provide a visual analysis of global trends in brain atrophy research over the past 16 years.

Background: This review was implemented to examine the impact of bone metastasis on the prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer patients (NSCLC) treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs).

Methods: A literature search was conducted in the PubMed, CENTRAL, Web of Science, and Embase databases up to 4th September 2022. Multivariable adjusted data were pooled in a random-effects model.

Assessing the role of combination of stem cell and light-based treatments on skin wound repair: A meta-analysis.

The meta-analysis aims to evaluate and compare the impact of the combination of stem cells (SCs) and light-based treatments (LBTs) on skin wound (SW) repair. Examinations comparing SCs to LBT with SCs for SW repair was among the meta-analysis from various languages that met the inclusion criteria. Using continuous random-effect models, the results of these investigations were examined, and the mean difference (MD) with 95% confidence intervals was computed (CIs).

Application of urinary N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase combined with serum retinol-binding protein in early detection of diabetic nephropathy.

Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a microangiopathy of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), which can damage the kidney through various ways and mechanisms due to the nature of the disease, involving the renal interstitium and glomeruli. However, in the early stage of the disease, patients only showed kidney volume increase and glomerular hyperthyroidism, and typical symptoms that are difficult to arouse individual attention were noticed.

Aim: To observe the expression of serum retinol-binding protein (RBP) and urinary N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) in patients with DN, and to analyze their value in disease prediction, so as to provide new targets for early diagnosis and treatment of DN.

Wound healing rates and wound problems of conventional circumcision compared with ring circumcision: A meta-analysis.

A meta-analysis investigation was executed to measure the wound healing rates (WHRs) and wound problems (WPs) of conventional circumcision (CC) compared with ring circumcision (RC). A comprehensive literature investigation till March 2023 was applied and 2347 interrelated investigations were reviewed. Immune landscape and prognostic immune-related signature in KRAS-mutated lung adenocarcinoma.

The heterogeneity of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) indicated that target therapies and immunotherapies may not be effective in all patients. The exploration of the feature of the immune landscape of different gene mutations may provide novel perspectives. In this study, we obtained LUAD samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas.

Relationship Between Physical Activity and Adult Asthma Control Using NHANES 2011-2020 Data.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to determine whether PA is associated with asthma control using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) for 2011-2020. We did not find a relationship between physical activity (PA) and asthma control. MATERIAL AND METHODS In this study, we measured asthma control by counting asthma attacks and emergency room visits for asthma in the past year.

Analysis of nsSNPs of Human KRAS Gene and Protein Modeling Using Bioinformatic Tools.

The gene belongs to the RAS family and codes for 188 amino acid residues of KRAS protein, with a molecular mass of 21.6 kD. Non-synonymous single-nucleotide polymorphisms (nsSNPs) have been identified within the coding region in which some are associated with different diseases.

Prognostic nutritional index and prognosis of patients with coronary artery disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: This review assessed if prognostic nutritional index (PNI) can predict mortality and major adverse cardiac events (MACE) in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients.

Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Embase were searched up to 1st November 2022 for all types of studies reporting adjusted associations between PNI and mortality or MACE in CAD patients. A random-effect meta-analysis was conducted for PNI as categorical or continuous variable.

Background: Malnutrition is a common complication after stroke and may worsen neurological outcomes for patients. There are still no uniform tools for screening nutritional status for the patients with stroke. We aimed to explore the relationship between the baseline geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) and neurological function at the convalescence stage for patients with stroke and assessed the predictive value of the GNRI for adverse neurological outcomes.

Objective: This study aims to explore the impact of Orem-based nursing intervention on the pain levels, self-care abilities, psychological statuses, and quality of life in bone cancer patients.

Methods: A total of 91 patients with primary bone cancer admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to January 2020 were randomly placed into one of two groups. The patients in the control group (n=43) underwent routine nursing care, and the patients in the experimental group (n=48) underwent Orem-based nursing care during the perioperative period.

This study aims to provide pooled estimates for the incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) in overweight, obese, and normal body mass index (BMI) patients, and to assess impact of BMI on mortality and chronic kidney disease (CKD) rates. We conducted literature search using online databases to analyze outcomes of BMI. This meta-analysis included 22 studies.

Effect and mechanism of apelin on lipopolysaccharide induced acute pulmonary vascular endothelial barrier dysfunction.

Vascular endothelial barrier dysfunction is the most prominent manifestation and important cause of mortality in infectious acute lung injury (ALI). Exogenous apelin is effective in ameliorating lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory response in ALI lungs, reducing exudation of lung tissue and decreasing mortality. This study set out to investigate the association between apelin and Friend leukemia integration-1 (Fli-1) in the prevention and treatment of ALI, and to elucidate the molecular mechanism by which apelin protects the permeability of the vascular endothelial barrier.
