Background: Neuronal survival and regeneration are critical aspects of recovery from ischemic brain injuries. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV), a saponin extracted from the traditional Chinese medicine Astragalus membranaceus, has shown promise in promoting neuronal health. This study investigates the effects of AS-IV on neuronal survival and apoptosis post-oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD), focusing on the modulation of the PTEN/AKT signaling pathway.

Objective: Bladder cancer (BC) is primarily treated with cisplatin-based chemotherapy, but the development of cisplatin resistance often leads to BC recurrence. This study is focused on assessing the potential of gambogic acid (GA) in mitigating BC cells' cisplatin resistance, along with an analysis of the underlying mechanism involved.

Methods: Cisplatin was administered to human bladder transitional cell carcinoma cells (T24) at various concentration gradients to induce cisplatin-resistant (T24-DDP) cells.

Capmatinib is a potent selective mesenchymal-epithelial transition inhibitor approved in 2020 for the treatment of metastatic non-small cell lung cancer. As real-world evidence is very limited, this study evaluated capmatinib-induced adverse events through data mining of the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System database. Four disproportionality analysis methods were employed to quantify the signals of capmatinib-related adverse events.

Article Synopsis
  • Cerebral ischemia is a condition where the brain suffers from a lack of blood or oxygen, potentially leading to secondary damage known as cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI) when blood supply is restored.
  • The JAK/STAT signaling pathway is crucial in mediating neuroinflammation during CIRI, influencing processes like cell growth and death, and leading to the activation of inflammatory microglia that can cause further cell loss.
  • Recent studies highlight the potential role of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in treating CIRI by affecting the JAK/STAT pathway, suggesting a promising area for future clinical research.

Mig6 not only inhibits EGFR and HER2 but also targets HER3 and HER4 in a differential specificity: Implications for targeted esophageal cancer therapy.

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Huiqiao Medical Center, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, 510515, China. Electronic address:

The human EGF receptor family plays pivotal roles in physiology and cancer, which contains four closely-related members: HER1/EGFR, HER2, HER3 and HER4. Previously, it was found that the mitogen-inducible gene 6 (Mig6) protein is a negative regulator of EGFR and HER2 by using its S1 segment to bind at the kinase dimerization interface. However, it is still unclear whether the S1 segment can also effectively target HER3 and HER4? Here, we performed a systematic investigation to address this issue.

December 2020

Key Laboratory of Digestive Pathophysiology of Zhejiang Province, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, 54 Youdian Road, Hangzhou 310006, China. Electronic address:

Given the poor prognosis of unresectable advanced gastric cancer (GC), novel therapeutic strategies are needed. The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling cascade, the most frequently activated pathway in GC, plays an important role in tumorigenesis and metastasis. The MAPK/extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) pathway is an attractive therapeutic target for GC.

Emerging evidence has indicated that long non‑coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are closely associated with the pathogenesis of ischemic stroke. It has been reported that small nucleolar RNA host gene 12 (SNHG12) serves a critical role in ischemic stroke by acting as a competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA). SNHG12 competes with various microRNAs (miRs) to regulate RNA transcription of specific targets.
