Background: The ATTRACT trial (Acute Venous Thrombosis: Thrombus Removal with Adjunctive Catheter-Directed Thrombolysis) previously reported that pharmacomechanical catheter-directed thrombolysis (PCDT) did not prevent postthrombotic syndrome (PTS) in patients with acute proximal deep vein thrombosis. In the current analysis, we examine the effect of PCDT in ATTRACT patients with iliofemoral deep vein thrombosis.
Methods: Within a large multicenter randomized trial, 391 patients with acute deep vein thrombosis involving the iliac or common femoral veins were randomized to PCDT with anticoagulation versus anticoagulation alone (No-PCDT) and were followed for 24 months to compare short-term and long-term outcomes.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the safety and effectiveness of a next-generation low-dose drug-coated balloon (DCB) designed to optimize the amount of drug transferred into the vessel wall and to maximize the amount of time the drug resides in the vessel wall.
Background: Several randomized controlled studies evaluating various DCBs have demonstrated a significantly higher patency rate compared with noncoated percutaneous transluminal angioplasty balloons at 1 year. However, the data are limited and vary by DCB at longer follow-up time points.

Objective: DISRUPT PAD II was designed to evaluate the safety and performance of intravascular lithotripsy (IVL), a novel approach using pulsatile sonic pressure waves, to modify intimal and medial calcium in stenotic peripheral arteries.
Background: Vascular calcification restricts vessel expansion, increases the risk of vascular complications, and may impair the effect of anti-proliferative therapy.
Methods: Disrupt PAD II was a non-randomized, multi-center study that enrolled 60 subjects with complex, calcified peripheral arterial stenosis at eight sites.

Study Design: Descriptive analysis using publicly available data.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was 2-fold: to assess patient-rated trustworthiness of spine surgeons as a whole and to assess if academic proclivity, region of practice, or physician sex affects ratings of patient perceived trust.
Methods: Orthopedic spine surgeons were randomly selected from the North American Spine Society directory.

Inferior vena cava filters (IVCF) are associated with complications which may be due to delayed retrieval. Initiation of an automated reminder system may improve retrieval rates and reduce complications. A computerized reminder system, which provides interactive email reminders after implantation while collecting IVCF use data, was implemented.

Appendicitis remains the most common surgical pathology responsible for right lower quadrant (RLQ) abdominal pain presenting to emergency departments in the United States, where the incidence continues to increase. Appropriate imaging in the diagnosis of appendicitis has resulted in decreased negative appendectomy rate from as high as 25% to approximately 1% to 3%. Contrast-enhanced CT remains the primary and most appropriate imaging modality to evaluate this patient population.

Mesenteric ischemia is an uncommon condition resulting from decreased blood flow to the small or large bowel in an acute or chronic setting. Acute ischemia is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality; however, it is difficult to diagnose clinically. Therefore, a high degree of suspicion and prompt imaging evaluation are necessary.

The range of pathology in adults that can produce abdominal pain is broad and necessitates an imaging approach to evaluate many different organ systems. Although localizing pain prompts directed imaging/management, clinical presentations may vary and result in nonlocalized symptoms. This review focuses on imaging the adult population with nonlocalized abdominal pain, including patients with fever, recent abdominal surgery, or neutropenia.

Methods and Results We obtained administrative claims on Medicare beneficiaries with initial critical limb ischemia diagnosis in 2011. Clinical outcomes and healthcare costs over 4 years were estimated among all patients and by first treatment (endovascular revascularization, surgical revascularization, or major amputation) in unmatched and propensity-score-matched samples.

Purpose: Patients with stable isolated injuries of the ankle syndesmosis can be treated conservatively, while unstable injuries require surgical stabilisation. Although evaluating syndesmotic injuries using ankle arthroscopy is becoming more popular, differentiating between stable and unstable syndesmoses remains a topic of on-going debate in the current literature. The purpose of this study was to quantify the degree of displacement of the ankle syndesmosis using arthroscopic measurements.

Purpose: To elucidate the effects of various tibial and femoral attachment locations on the theoretical length changes and isometry of PCL grafts in healthy knees during in vivo weightbearing motion.
Methods: The intact knees of 14 patients were imaged using a combined magnetic resonance and dual fluoroscopic imaging technique while the patient performed a quasi-static lunge (0°-120° of flexion). The theoretical end-to-end distances of the 3-dimensional wrapping paths between 165 femoral attachments, including the anatomic anterolateral bundle (ALB), central attachment and posteromedial bundle (PMB) of the PCL, connected to an anterolateral, central, and posteromedial tibial attachment were simulated and measured.

Purpose: A recent comparison of the prognostic accuracy of Breast Cancer Index (BCI) and the Recurrence Score (RS) showed that BCI was more precise than RS. BCI identified a subset of RS low and intermediate risk patients with clinically relevant elevated rates of distant recurrences (DR). The current study analyzed the correlation of BCI and RS risk classification to clinical and pathological parameters and further examined the re-categorization between the two risk group indices in a multi-institutional cohort of hormone receptor positive (HR+) breast cancer patients.

Background: Patients with chronic hepatitis C (HCV) have had extremely high complication rates after total hip arthroplasty (THA). We sought to compare perioperative complication rates between untreated and treated HCV in THA patients and to compare these rates between patients treated with 2 different therapies (interferon vs direct antiviral agents).
Methods: A multicenter retrospective database query was used to identify patients diagnosed with HCV who underwent THA between 2006 and 2016.

The purpose was to assess the incidence and risk factors associated with symptomatic venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing below knee immobilization for non-operative foot or ankle injury. We included all foot and ankle patients between January 2005 and May 2016 who underwent non-operative management using below knee immobilization with cast, splint, brace, and/or boot. The primary outcome was the development of a venous thromboembolism within 90 days of immobilization initiation.

The TNM staging system for cancer was developed by Pierre Denoix in France in the 1940s and 1950s. The North American effort to standardize the TNM system for cancer staging was first organized in 1959 as the American Joint Committee for Cancer Staging and End-Results Reporting, which is now the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC). The most recent edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, the eighth edition, was globally adopted on January 1, 2018.

Multidisciplinary pulmonary embolism response teams (PERTs) are being implemented to improve care of patients with life-threatening PE. We sought to determine how the creation of PERT affects treatment and outcomes of patients with serious PE. A pre- and post-intervention study was performed using an interrupted time series design, to compare patients with PE before (2006-2012) and after (2012-2016) implementation of PERT at a university hospital.
