Background: Less than two percent of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) produce serotonin. Serotonin can cause carcinoid syndrome and less commonly carcinoid heart disease (CHD). CHD is associated with increased mortality and requires a more aggressive approach.

Several evidence-based psychotherapies for personality disorders have been developed in recent decades, including transference-focused psychotherapy (TFP), a contemporary model of psychodynamic psychotherapy developed by Otto Kernberg. Kernberg established Group TFP (TFP-G) as an alternative or adjunct treatment to individual TFP. Although not yet manualized, TFP-G is used in publicly and privately funded mental health services, including outpatient clinics, subacute hospitals, therapeutic inpatient units, partial hospitalization services, and rehabilitation services serving people with borderline personality.

Introduction: Pathologic response has been proposed as an early clinical trial end point of survival after neoadjuvant treatment in clinical trials of NSCLC. The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) published recommendations for pathologic evaluation of resected lung cancers after neoadjuvant therapy. The aim of this study was to assess pathologic response interobserver reproducibility using IASLC criteria.

Our overall understanding of the developmental biology of malaria parasites has been greatly enhanced by recent advances in transcriptomic analysis. However, most of these investigations rely on laboratory strains (LS) that were adapted into culture many years ago, and the transcriptomes of clinical isolates (CI) circulating in human populations have not been assessed. In this study, RNA-seq was used to compare the global transcriptome of mid-stage gametocytes derived from three short-term cultured CI, with gametocytes derived from the NF54 reference laboratory strain.

Since its discovery in the early 1990s, functional MRI (fMRI) has been used to study human brain function. One well-established application of fMRI in the clinical setting is the neurosurgical planning of patients with brain tumors near eloquent cortical areas. Clinical fMRI aims to preoperatively identify eloquent cortices that serve essential functions in daily life, such as hand movement and language.

Liver-resident NK (lrNK) cells have been studied in humans as well as in mice. Unfortunately, important differences have been observed between murine and human lrNK cells, complicating the extrapolation of data obtained in mice to man. We previously described two NK cell subsets in the porcine liver: A CD8α subset, with a phenotype much like conventional CD8α NK cells found in the peripheral blood, and a specific liver-resident CD8α subset which phenotypically strongly resembles human lrNK cells.

Background: The antidiabetic drug metformin has known anticancer effects related to its antioxidant activity; however, its clinical benefit for prostate cancer (PCa) has thus far been inconclusive. Here, we investigate whether the efficacy of metformin in PCa is related to the expression status of NKX3.1, a prostate-specific homeobox gene that functions in mitochondria to protect the prostate from aberrant oxidative stress.

The mechanisms by which viruses regulate host mRNAs during infection are still poorly understood. Several host transcripts that encode proteins that contribute to the anti-viral response contain the N6-methyladenosine nucleotide (m6A). In this study, we investigated if and how viruses from different (sub) families specifically affect m6A-containing host transcripts.

Chemical modifications of transcripts with a 5' cap occur in all organisms and function in many aspects of RNA metabolism. To facilitate analysis of RNA caps, we developed a systems-level mass spectrometry-based technique, CapQuant, for accurate and sensitive quantification of the cap epitranscriptome. The protocol includes the addition of stable isotope-labeled cap nucleotides (CNs) to RNA, enzymatic hydrolysis of endogenous RNA to release CNs, and off-line enrichment of CNs by ion-pairing high-pressure liquid chromatography, followed by a 17 min chromatography-coupled tandem quadrupole mass spectrometry run for the identification and quantification of individual CNs.

Background And Purpose: Antibiotic-loaded bone cement (ALBC) and systemic antibiotic prophylaxis (SAP) have been used to reduce periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) rates. We investigated the use of ALBC and SAP in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
Patients And Methods: This observational study is based on 2,971,357 primary TKAs reported in 2010-2020 to national/regional joint arthroplasty registries in Australia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, and the USA.

Treatment paradigms for patients with spine metastases have evolved significantly over the past two decades. The most transformative change to these paradigms has been the integration of spinal stereotactic radiosurgery (sSRS). sSRS allows for the delivery of tumoricidal radiation doses with sparing of nearby organs at risk, particularly the spinal cord.

Introduction: The efficacy and safety of combined immunotherapy and transarterial radioembolization (TARE) were suggested in preclinical and early-phase trials, but these were limited by small sample sizes. We sought to compare the efficacy of combined therapy and immunotherapy alone in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Methods: The National Cancer Database was used to identify patients with advanced HCC diagnosed between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2019.
Purpose: The Optilume BPH Catheter System is a novel drug/device combination minimally invasive surgical therapy for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia. The PINNACLE study is a prospective, randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of Optilume BPH against a sham surgical procedure.
Materials And Methods: Eligible patients were men 50 years or older with symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia and a prostate size between 20 and 80 g.

Method: This is a cross sectional study of 202 participants with BD aged 18-65, and a sample (n = 53) of healthy controls (HCs). Participants completed the CANTAB Emotion Recognition Task (ERT).

Background: Older adults hospitalized for heart failure (HF) are at risk for falls after discharge. One modifiable contributor to falls is fall risk-increasing drugs (FRIDs). However, the prevalence of FRIDs among older adults hospitalized for HF is unknown.

Background: Change in leg length and leg-length discrepancy (LLD) are common concerns among patients undergoing medial unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). This study aimed to quantify the magnitude of leg-length change, prevalence of postoperative LLD, and their clinical implications following medial UKA.
Methods: Leg length and mechanical hip-knee-ankle angle (mHKA) were retrospectively measured in 332 patients following unilateral robotic-arm assisted medial UKA for medial compartment osteoarthritis, using calibrated long-leg radiographs.
