Background: With the application of PCR testing and Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing(mNGS), the detection rate of causative organisms in paediatric bone and joint infections has been greatly improved. The aim of our study is to identify some indicators that could be used to distinguish the culture results to optimize the use of PCR and mNGS.
Methods: In this study, a total of 117 cases of acute osteomyelitis of long bones in children who underwent pus culture were included.

Atherosclerosis (AS) causes thickening and hardening of the arterial wall due to accumulation of extracellular matrix, cholesterol, and cells. In this study, we used comprehensive bioinformatics tools and machine learning approaches to explore key genes and molecular network mechanisms underlying AS in multiple data sets. Next, we analyzed the correlation between AS and immune fine cell infiltration, and finally performed drug prediction for the disease.

Background: N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation is involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis (AS). Limited studies have examined the role of the m6A methyltransferase METTL5 in AS pathogenesis.
Methods: This study subjected the AS dataset to differential analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis to identify m6A methylation-associated differentially expressed genes (DEGs).

To evaluate whether patients with multiple myeloma (MM) could benefit from tandem autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (auto-HSCT), PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane Library databases were systematically searched, and 10 eligible studies were included after data extraction and quality evaluation. Meta-analysis showed that compared to single autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, tandem auto-HSCT does not improve OS, EFS or efficacy in MM patients, and may even lead to higher treatment-related mortality (TRM). MM patients who received autologous tandem allogeneic HSCT did not achieve better response compared to tandem autologous HSCT.

Idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) is a common glomerular disease, in which 50-60% of patients can progress to end-stage renal disease within 10-20 years, seriously endangering human health. Podocyte injury is the direct cause of IMN. Sublytic C5b-9 complement complex induces damage in podocytes' structure and function.

Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) syndrome is a multi-organ neoplastic disease characterized by highly vascular and cystic tumors in the central nervous system (CNS), retina, and visceral lesions, which are mainly caused by germline mutations in . We aimed to detect novel mutations in gene in families with VHL. Here, a large consanguineous four-generation family with variant phenotypes of VHL syndrome was recruited, and its molecular genetics were tested Sanger sequencing.

Local recurrence and distant metastasis are the main causes of death in patients with cancer. Only considering species abundance changes when identifying markers of recurrence and metastasis in patients hinders finding solutions. Consideration of microbial abundance changes and microbial interactions facilitates the identification of microbial markers of tumour recurrence and metastasis.

Background: Fibroblast activation protein-α (FAP) is a specific marker of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) and plays a crucial role in tumor development. However, the biological processes underlying FAP expression in tumor progression and tumor immunity have not been fully elucidated.
Methods: We utilized RNA-seq data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression (GTEx) to perform differential analysis of FAP expression in tumor tissues and matched-normal tissues.

Primary malignant lymphoma of the parotid gland is a rare entity. The disease is often misdiagnosed, and its survival factors remain unclear. This study included patients diagnosed with primary B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the parotid gland from 1987 to 2016 in the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results program.

Introduction: Early onset sepsis (EOS) remains a potentially fatal newborn condition, especially in very preterm infants. Data on the pathogen distribution and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of EOS among very preterm infants are scarce but essential for the choice of empirical antibiotic administration. We sought to assess the epidemiologic characteristics and antibiotic susceptibility patterns of pathogens causing EOS among a cohort of very preterm infants in China.

Chemoresistance against 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is a major issue for colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Increasing evidence for the roles of CD147 in glycolipid metabolic reprogramming and chemoresistance of tumor cells has emerged in recent years. However, whether CD147 contributes to 5-FU resistance in CRC and the role of abnormal glycolipid metabolism in this process remain poorly understood.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is associated with oxidative stress and affects the survival and homing of transplanted mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) as well as cytokine secretion by the MSCs, thereby altering their therapeutic potential. In this study, we preconditioned the MSCs with prostaglandin E1 (PGE1) and performed in vitro and in vivo cell experiments to evaluate the therapeutic effects of MSCs in rats with PAH.
Methods: We studied the relationship between PGE1 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) secretion, B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) expression, and C-X-C chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) expression in MSCs and MSC apoptosis as well as migration through the hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) pathway in vitro.

BACKGROUND Allergic conjunctivitis, one of the frequently occurring ocular surface diseases, can cause mucus discharge, itchy sensation, conjunctival hyperemia, and papillary formation. Seasonal allergic conjunctivitis (SAC) is associated with xerophthalmia and instability of tear film. Meibomian gland (MG) can secrete lipids to avoid xerophthalmia.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is notorious for its poor prognosis. Previous studies identified several N6-methyladenosine (m6A)-related genes that play key roles in the initiation and progression of HCC patients. In particular, the N6-methyladenosine RNA methylation regulator ZC3H13 could be a candidate as a novel biomarker and therapeutic target for hepatocellular carcinoma.

Preeclampsia (PE), a pregnancy disorder that affects 5-7% of pregnant women, is among the primary causes for maternal and perinatal mortality. PE is believed to be associated with insufficient invasion of villous and extravillous trophoblasts (EVTs), which hampers uterine spiral artery remodeling and finally induces PE. But the mechanism responsible for reduction of trophoblast invasion remains unclear.

An increasing number of studies have supported the critical regulatory actions of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in osteosarcoma (OS). However, the detailed roles of adipogenesis regulatory factor-antisense RNA 1 (ADIRF-AS1) in OS have not been comprehensively described. Hence, we first detected ADIRF-AS1 expression in OS and evaluated its clinical significance.

In some individuals, the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) originates from the aorta above the lower edge of the duodenum. This anatomical feature has rarely been reported but may be important in guiding central vascular ligation and lymph node dissection in colorectal surgery. This retrospective study aimed to explore the anatomical relationship between the IMA and the duodenum and evaluate its potential impact on the efficacy of D3 lymph node dissection.

During lower abdominal marginal hernia repair, the peritoneal flap is routinely freed to facilitate mesh placement and closed to conclude the procedure. This procedure is generally called trans-abdominal partial extra-peritoneal (TAPE). However, the necessity of closing the free peritoneal flap is still controversial.
