The connection between the F-actin and ribosome docking to the PM has been reported, but the exact mechanism has remained unclear. Previously, we discovered that gelsolin (GSN) forms complexes with numerous ribosomal proteins, including ribosomal protein SA (RPSA). Now, we have unraveled the mechanism of ribosome recruitment to the lipid nanodomains of the PM, with GSN playing a pivotal role in this process.

We conducted an untargeted metabolomics analysis of urine samples collected from male e-waste processing workers to explore metabolic changes associated with chemical exposures in e-waste recycling in Belgium, Finland, Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, and Portugal. Questionnaire data and urine samples were obtained from workers involved in the processing of e-waste (sorting, dismantling, shredding, pre-processing, metal, and non-metal processing), as well as from controls with no known occupational exposure.

Background: Uncertain times require healthcare entities to demonstrate strong leadership, develop digitalisation, and respond to change in a creative and flexible manner. Based on emerging new institutional theory, we developed and tested a model of how digital transformational leadership (DTL) affects digital intensity (DI) among healthcare entities through the mediating role of organisational agility (OA). In this article, we also examine the moderating role of the country in the studied relationship.

Background: Kidney transplantation (kTx) is by far the most effective method of treating end-stage renal disease, with immunosuppressive therapy being obligatory for all, except identical twins. Despite kTx being the most effective treatment for end-stage renal disease, the patients face significant morbidity. They are often burdened with diabetes, anaemia, lipid disorders, all of which pose heightened risks for cardiovascular disease.

The reuse of stormwater represents a potential option for meeting water demands in water stressed regions as well as preventing and mitigating diffuse pollution of receiving water bodies. Particularly, the elaboration of a risk management plan for stormwater reuse may help to understand associated environmental and public health risks and design fit-for-purpose water treatment processes. In this work, it is presented an innovative methodology to perform quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) for stormwater reuse by using data simulated by SWMM software.

We previously used high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with Se-specific inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and molecule specific (ESI Orbitrap MS/MS) detection to study the increase in liver Se in turkeys and rats supplemented as selenite in high-Se (5 µg Se/g diet) and adequate-Se diets. We found that far more Se is present as selenosugar (seleno-N-acetyl galactosamine) than is present as selenocysteine (Sec) in true selenoproteins. In high-Se liver, the increase in liver Se was due to low molecular weight (LMW) selenometabolites as glutathione-, cysteine- and methyl-conjugates of the selenosugar, but also as high molecular weight (HMW) species as selenosugars decorating general proteins via mixed-disulfide bonds.

One promising strategy to alleviate aging symptoms is the treatment with senolytics that is compounds which selectively eliminate senescent cells. Some therapies aim to reduce symptoms of cellular senescence without senescent cell eradication (senomorphic activity). However, senotherapies raise many questions concerning the selectivity, safety and efficiency of senolitic drugs.

Optical diffraction tomography enables label-free, 3D refractive index (RI) imaging of biological samples. We present a novel, cost-effective approach to ODT that employs a modular design incorporating a self-reference holographic capture module. This two-part system consists of an illumination module and a capture module that can be seamlessly integrated with any life-science microscope using an automated alignment protocol.

A fair comparison of multiple live cell cultures requires examining them under identical environmental conditions, which can only be done accurately if all cells are prepared simultaneously and studied at the same time and place. This contribution introduces a multiplexed lensless digital holographic microscopy system (MLS), enabling synchronous, label-free, quantitative observation of multiple live cell cultures with single-cell precision. The innovation of this setup lies in its ability to robustly compare the behaviour, i.

Background: Mycobacterium bovis BCG is the human tuberculosis vaccine and is the oldest vaccine still in use today with over 4 billion people vaccinated since 1921. The BCG vaccine has also been investigated experimentally in cattle and wildlife by various routes including oral and parenteral. Thus far, oral vaccination studies of cattle have involved liquid BCG or liquid BCG incorporated into a lipid matrix.

Introduction: This study aims to quantify the shear wave speed (SWS) and stiffness of the uterine cervix (close to the internal cervical ostium (IOC) which is the cranial portion of cervix and close to the external cervical ostium (EOC) which is the caudal portion of cervix), caruncular areas, and vulvar labia during the postpartum period in healthy Kivircik ewes by using shear-wave elastography. Power Doppler ultrasonography was performed to evaluate the color pixel percentage (CPP) of the caruncles.
Methods: The study included 13 healthy pregnant Kivircik ewes, which were randomly selected.

In this paper, we introduce and analyze a discrete-time model of an epidemic spread in a heterogeneous population. As the heterogeneous population, we define a population in which we have two groups which differ in a risk of getting infected: a low-risk group and a high-risk group. We construct our model without discretization of its continuous-time counterpart, which is not a common approach.

The purpose of the experiment was to indicate which element of the production process of flexible printed circuit boards is optimal in terms of the reliability of final products. According to the Taguchi method, in the experiment, five factors with two levels each were chosen for the subsequent analysis. These included the number of conductive layers, the thickness of the laminate layer, the type of the laminate, the diameter of the plated holes, and the current density in the galvanic bath.

Are the regulations relating to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) sufficient to ensure the safety of all autonomy systems? EMC is one of the critical factors influencing the proper functioning of a vehicle and its safety. However, the safety of autonomous vehicles from the perspective of EMC has not been comprehensively researched to date. The purpose of this article is to evaluate whether the currently imposed requirements are adequate.

Objectives: A better understanding of the conditions leading to overweight and obesity is fundamental due to the ever-increasing phenomenon of excess body weight. This study aimed to determine how the occurrence of restrained eating in young adulthood, food-restricted types, and food experiences related to food restrictions originating in childhood correlate with excessive body weight among young adults.
Methods: The data were collected in Poland in 2020-2021 using a Computer-Assisted Web Interview technique as a cross-sectional study among 358 young adults.

Nutrition knowledge may be translated into adequate dietary intake and proper eating habits, so adolescent education programs focusing on improving eating habits and nutrition knowledge are needed. The aim of the cross-sectional study with pair-matched controls was to assess the Consumer Nutrition Knowledge Scale (CoNKS) results and its determinants after one year of intervention in a national extracurricular athletics program within a pair-matched sample of Polish adolescents. The #goathletics Study evaluated a Polish national extracurricular athletics program, 'Athletics for all', being a voluntary and free-of-charge physical activity program organized by the Polish Athletics Association.

Plant secondary metabolites (PSMs) are a diverse group of bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, polyphenols, saponins, and terpenoids, which have been recognised for their critical role in modulating cellular functions. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the effects of PSMs on mitochondrial health, with particular emphasis on their therapeutic potential. Emerging evidence shows that these metabolites improve mitochondrial function by reducing oxidative stress, promoting mitochondrial biogenesis, and regulating key processes such as apoptosis and mitophagy.
