We describe a rare case of chondroblastoma of the acromion in a 29-year-old man. In addition to the radiological progression and confirmatory histological evidence of the lesion, the relevant and more unusual aspects of this tumour are discussed.

A 1-year prospective analysis was undertaken of all non-day-case general surgery in a district general hospital. Using the Physiological and Operative Severity Score for the enUmeration of Mortality and Morbidity (POSSUM) scoring system 3004 patients were assessed. From the predictions of mortality and morbidity so obtained, a quality measure, the ratio of observed to expected numbers of deaths and complications (O:E ratio) was determined for each surgeon, both overall and within specialty zones.

Auditing the outcome from vascular surgery with regard to graft occlusion is made difficult by variations in the type of surgery performed and the case mix. These difficulties are compounded when attempting to compare units. In the present study we have attempted to develop a scoring system to predict the risk of graft occlusion, and thus compensate for these variables.
