We discuss a case of an asymptomatic cervical rib presenting as a hard neck lump in a 56-year-old woman. Cervical rib is a common condition associated with thoracic outlet syndrome. The diagnosis, investigation and management of this condition is an important differential diagnosis that an ENT surgeon should know in a patient presenting with a neck mass.

Spontaneous regression of Merkel cell carcinoma of the nose.

Background: Merkel Cell Carcinoma (MCC) is a rare neurendocrine tumor of cutaneous origin.

Methods And Results: A 79-year-old woman was seen with a neck lump and a lesion in the left nasal vestibule. Biopsy of the lesion revealed a primary neurendocrine MCC of the skin of the nasal vestibule with metastases to the cervical lymph nodes.

We present three patients with respiratory failure in whom conventional mechanical lung ventilation resulted in unacceptably high levels of carbon dioxide, severe acidosis and high vasopressor requirements. A pumpless arteriovenous extracorporeal carbon dioxide removal device (Novalung) was inserted. Arterial carbon dioxide levels were reduced rapidly with a corresponding increase in pH, reduction in vasopressor requirements and reduction in inspiratory pressures.

Introduction: Sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma is a rare but distinct variant of fibrosarcoma that not only presents as a deep-seated mass on the limbs and neck but can also occur adjacent to the fascia or peritoneum, as well as the trunk and spine. We report the case of an intra-abdominal sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma, which to best of the authors' knowledge has not been described previously. The patient discussed here developed lung metastases but is still alive 1-year post-diagnosis.

Objectives: To demonstrate the importance of a detailed history when assessing patients with a repeated pattern of foreign body ingestion.

Case Report: A 19-year-old woman presented to our department following accidental ingestion of a teaspoon. On further questioning, she admitted to a habit of binge-eating followed by self-induced vomiting, in order to avoid weight gain; she blamed this behaviour on a stressful relationship with her partner.

Objective: Fecal loading, cognitive impairment, loose stools, functional disability, comorbidity and anorectal incontinence are recognized as factors contributing to loss of fecal continence in older adults. The objective of this project was to assess the relative distribution of these factors in a variety of settings along with the outcome of usual management.

Methods: One hundred and twenty adults aged 65 years and over with fecal incontinence recruited by convenience sampling from four different settings were studied.

Methods: This study is presented as an interventional case report.

Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma: a rare tumor presenting as an abdominal mass.
