Background: Cognitive impairment is common in multiple sclerosis (MS) and can have an impact on all aspects of daily life. It is also an early marker of increased MS disease activity and indicates the need to optimise disease-modifying therapies to slow progression and preserve brain functioning. However, it is difficult to detect on clinical interview alone, and patient self-report is unreliable.

Objective: This retrospective cohort study aims to describe patterns of rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM™) results in paediatric trauma following the implementation of a ROTEM-guided critical bleeding algorithm and major haemorrhage protocol (MHP).

Methods: This retrospective observational study was conducted in a tertiary trauma hospital in Queensland, Australia, where point-of-care ROTEM was introduced for paediatric patients in 2014. All children aged less than 18 years who had a ROTEM test during their presentation between January 2014 and December 2017 for a traumatic injury were included in the dataset.

Background and objective Low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) prophylaxis has now become the gold-standard practice in patients requiring lower limb immobilization. We had noticed an increase in the incidence of wound-healing problems at our center, and the severity of the problems was found to be worse in patients undergoing foot and ankle surgery since we had adopted this practice. In this study, we aimed to describe the incidence and severity of wound-healing problems in this group of patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Neurological and neuropsychiatric symptoms often emerge or persist for three months or more after COVID-19, presenting a major challenge for healthcare systems worldwide, which requires better understanding through meta-analysis.
  • The primary goal of the study was to assess the prevalence of these symptoms in adults at least 12 weeks after experiencing acute COVID-19.
  • Out of 1,458 articles reviewed, 19 studies with 11,324 patients revealed that notable post-COVID-19 neurological symptoms included fatigue (37%) and brain fog (32%).

Background: Poor patient uptake of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) remains a challenge for multiple reasons including geographic, time, cultural, cost, and psychological constraints.

Objective: We evaluated the impact on CR participation rates associated with the addition of the option of mobile app-based CR (Cardihab) for patients declining conventional CR.

Methods: A total of 204 consecutive patients were offered CR following angioplasty; of these, 99 were in cohort 1 (offered conventional CR only) and 105 were in cohort 2 (app-based CR offered to those declining conventional CR).

Background: The globus pallidus internus is the main target for the treatment of dystonia by deep brain stimulation. Unfortunately, for some genetic etiologies, the therapeutic outcome of dystonia is less predictable. In particular, therapeutic outcomes for deep brain stimulation in craniocervical and orolaryngeal dystonia in DYT6-positive patients are poor.
