Skull metastasis from follicular thyroid carcinoma: report of three cases and review of literature.

Three patients' medical history, clinical manifestation, imaging characteristic, therapy and prognosis of calvaria metastasis from follicular thyroid carcinoma (FTC) in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed by reviewing medical literature. In case one, the tumor in frontal bone and fossa orbital was total resected, no further treatment was performed, the patient gave up on therapy and died of extensive metastasis at 22 months after the initial operation. In case two, the tumor in parietal and occipital bone was total resected, the subtotal resection of bilateral thyroid gland and isthmus was performed and combined with therapy of Levothyroxine and (131)I radio-iodine therapy, no evidence of tumor recurrence at 30 months after the primary operation.

A hypothesis-effect of T cell epitope fusion peptide specific immunotherapy on signal transduction.

Asthma is a chronic nonspecific inflammatory disease of the airway primarily mediated by different inflammatory cells, including mast cells, eosinophils and T cells. We hereby specially focused on a signal pathway for Janus kinase-signal transducer and activators of transduction (JAK-STATs), which has been the interest of study in asthma since it more likely regulates cellular proliferation and differentiation, and consequently modulates immune system. In our consideration, knowledge on this signal pathway may provide an avenue for rational options in treatment of asthma on control of immune response basis.

Risk factors of fatigue status among Chinese adolescents.

In recent years, fatigue is common among adolescents. The aim of this study is to evaluate fatigue status and find related factors of fatigue among students ranged from 13-26 years from Wuhu, China. This is a case-control, cross-sectional observational study.

Comparison the effects of pressurized salt ice packs with water ice packs on patients following total knee arthroplasty.

The aim of this study was to estimate the effects of pressurized salt ice packs (PIP) with water ice packs (WIP) which are used to relieve pain and decrease swelling on patients following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Sixty-nine patients undergoing primary unilateral TKA were randomly divided into two groups (PIP group and WIP group). We used a visual analog scale (VAS) to score knee pain and the score was recorded.

Correlation of human papilloma virus with oral squamous cell carcinoma in Chinese population.

Previous studies indicated that oral squamous cell carcinomas (OSCC) might be related to human papilloma virus (HPV) infection. However, the relationship between OSCC in a Chinese population and oral HPV infection is still unclear. In this study, we evaluate the relationship of OSCC with HPV infection in a Chinese population via a meta-analysis.

Previous epidemiologic studies suggested that vitamin D deficiency may be a risk factor of obesity. However, the result is still controversial. This meta-analysis aims to provide a comprehensive summary on the association between vitamin D deficiency and obesity.

Preoperative risk factors for prolonged postoperative ventilation following thymectomy in myasthenia gravis.

Methods: the nucleotide sequences of the 3 target genes were synthesized, including TAT, IhC and the recombinant fragment of Der p 1 encoding 3 T-cell epitopes.

PREVALENCE OF DISORDERED EATING ATTITUDES AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN WUHU, CHINA.

Objective: the purpose of this study is to assess the current status of disordered eating attitudes and its related factors among University students in Anhui province, and to provide a basis for health intervention.

Methods: this is a cross-sectional study. The University students admitted to the routine health exams were included in current study, and completed self-administered questionnaires which consist of general information and the Eating Attitudes Test-26 (EAT-26).

Image classification of liver cancer surrounding right hepatic pedicle and its guide to precise liver resection.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the feasibility of image classification of liver cancer surrounding right hepatic pedicle (RHP) and its guide to precise liver resection.

Methods: Twenty-five patients with single liver cancer surrounding RHP were collected. According to the adjacent relationship between neoplasm and RHP shown in CT or MRI, the liver neoplasms were divided into the 4 types, type A neoplasm infiltrating or surrounding RHP, type B neoplasm locating in the anterior side of RHP, type C neoplasm locating in the dorsal side of RHP and type D neoplasm locating between the two branches.

Elastic nails for fibular fracture in adult tibiofibular fractures.

Treatment of adult tibiofibular fractures, especially severely comminuted fractures, is technically challenging due to the lack of reduction markers and difficulty in restoring the alignment. Fixation of the fibula can facilitate reduction of the tibia fracture and restoration of the lower-extremity alignment. However, there are few literatures mentioned using intramedullary nail fixation for fibular fractures.

Correlation analysis of anxiety status and sub-health status among students of 13-26 years old.

Our study was a population-based, cluster sampling method survey with a sample consisting of 5249 students, who come from a university, four high schools and four middle schools in Wannan Area in China. Effects of angiotensin II type 1 receptor antagonist on rats with septic shock.

Aims: To investigate the effects of angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R) antagonist, losartan, on rats with septic shock induced by endotoxin.

Methods: Thirty male SD rats were randomly divided into 3 groups (10 for each group): rats were injected with normal saline in C group, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of 12 mg kg(-1) intravenously in LPS group, and losartan of 50 mg kg(-1) intraperitoneally followed by LPS of 12 mg kg(-1) intravenously in LOS group. Growth hormone (GH) is involved in the regulation of male and female infertility. Several clinical studies reveal that adjuvant GH treatment has a possible role in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), especially in poor ovarian responders (POR) undergoing IVF/ICSI. Recent studies suggest that GH addition in POR patients significantly improves the rate of clinical pregnancy and live birth.

To derive a more precise estimation of the relationship between the CTLA-4 exon-1 +49A/G polymorphism and asthma, a meta-analysis of 15 published case-control studies was performed. 15 studies meeting our inclusion criteria comprising 4006 asthma cases and 3729 controls were included.
