Key Laboratory of Functional Molecular Solids, Ministry of Education, Anhui Laboratory of Molecule-Based Materials (State Key Laboratory Cultivation Base), College of Chemistry and Materials Science, Anhui Normal University Wuhu 241002 P.R. China

A facile and efficient strategy for modular access to furo[3,2-]chromen-4-ones using 4-hydroxycoumarin and β-nitroalkenes Lewis acid-catalyzed formal [3 + 2] annulation protocol is described. This reaction proceeds cascade Michael addition/nucleophilic addition/elimination in the presence of Yb(OTf), which involves the formation of two new σ (C-C and C-O) bonds for the construction of a novel furan ring in a single operation. This protocol affords a variety of functional groups, thereby providing a practical and efficient method for the fabrication of a furo[3,2-]chromen-4-one framework.

AnHui Provincial Engineering Research Center for Polysaccharide Drugs and Institute of Synthesis and Application of Medical Materials, Department of Pharmacy, Wannan Medical College Wuhu 241002 P.R. China

Novel porous gold nanospheres are prepared by calcination of the gold-urea complexes. The enhanced Raman spectra of ethanol catalyzed by different doses of porous gold nanospheres are measured with a 532 nm laser as the excitation source, and an enhanced charge coupled device served in spectral detection and microscopic imaging. The electrochemical experiments show that the catalytic oxidation products of ethanol with porous gold nanoparticles are acetaldehyde, acetic acid, and water, which further proved that the porous gold nanoparticles can activate the -CH of ethanol.

Two acid-catalyzed tandem reactions between 4-hydroxy-1-methylquinolin-2(1)-one and propargylic alcohols are described. Depending mainly on the propargylic alcohol used, these tandem reactions proceed either a Friedel-Crafts-type allenylation followed by 6--dig cyclization sequence to form pyrano[3,2-]quinolones or a Friedel-Crafts-type alkylation and 5--dig ring closure sequence to afford furo[3,2-]quinolones in moderate-to-high yields. The pyrano[3,2-]quinolones products could be further transformed to tetracyclic 4,9-dihydro-5-cyclopenta[]phenanthridin-5-one derivatives.

A surfactant-free synthesis of noble-metal nanoclusters (NMNCs) with specific function has recently remained more attractive and superior in bio-applications. Herein, by employing the weak reducibility of non-toxic HEPES, we prepared novel water-soluble fluorescent HEPES@Pt NCs by a simple surfactant-free synthesis strategy for hypochlorous acid (HClO) sensing. The as-prepared Pt NCs featured ultra-small size (∼2 nm), bright blue fluorescence, high stability and biocompatibility, and the fluorescence of the Pt NC nanoprobe can be specifically quenched with hypochlorous acid by a static quenching process.
