Objective: This study aimed to determine whether lower extremity fracture fixation technique and timing (≤24 vs. >24 hours) impact neurologic outcomes in TBI patients.

Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted across 30 trauma centers.

Objectives: The majority of studies examining deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) prevention focus on ameliorating 1 variable at a time. There is a paucity of data regarding the synergistic effects of combining clinical and environmental interventions. This article describes an interdisciplinary, multimodal approach to eliminate DSWIs at a large community hospital.

Objective: To develop a model for predicting postpartum readmission for hypertension and pre-eclampsia at delivery discharge and assess external validation or model transportability across clinical sites.

Design: Prediction model using data available in the electronic health record from two clinical sites.

Setting: Two tertiary care health systems from the Southern (2014-2015) and Northeastern USA (2017-2019).

Neonatal Drug Formularies-A Global Scope.

Children (Basel)

May 2023

Department of Development and Regeneration, KU Leuven, 3000 Leuven, Belgium.

Neonatal drug information (DI) is essential for safe and effective pharmacotherapy in (pre)term neonates. Such information is usually absent from drug labels, making formularies a crucial part of the neonatal clinician's toolbox. Several formularies exist worldwide, but they have never been fully mapped or compared for content, structure and workflow.

Importance: Pregnancy induces unique physiologic changes to the immune response and hormonal changes leading to plausible differences in the risk of developing post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC), or Long COVID. Exposure to SARS-CoV-2 during pregnancy may also have long-term ramifications for exposed offspring, and it is critical to evaluate the health outcomes of exposed children. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Multi-site Observational Study of PASC aims to evaluate the long-term sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection in various populations.

In the United States, pediatric trauma resulting in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and massive hemorrhage is the leading cause of death. Although use of Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA) continues to gain favor, limited data exists on use and efficacy in pediatric patients. We describe a case using REBOA in a pediatric patient with blunt abdominal injury causing hemorrhagic shock.

Few prospective studies have documented the seropositivity among those children infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. From 2 April 2021 to 24 June 2021, we prospectively enrolled children between the ages of 2 and 17 years at three North Carolina healthcare systems. Participants received at least four at-home serological tests detecting the presence of antibodies against, but not differentiating between, the nucleocapsid or spike antigen.

Current data shows 30% of patients hospitalized for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) exacerbation are readmitted within 30 days. Medication management during transitions of care (TOC) has shown impact on clinical outcomes, however there is insufficient data to suggest how pharmacy TOC services might benefit this patient population. Evaluate the effects of pharmacy-driven COPD TOC services on hospital re-presentation rates.

Background: Diffuse intimal hyperplasia and graft irregularity adversely affect the long-term patency of saphenous vein grafts (SVGs) and clinical outcomes of patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The VEST trial evaluated the efficacy of external graft support in limiting the development of intimal hyperplasia (IH) at 1 year postsurgery. In the present secondary analysis, we explored the associations between graft disease and IH and clinical events.

Background: Back pain is common in the gravid population and spinal cord infarction (SCI) or chronic osteomyelitis are exceptionally rare underlying causes of back pain in this population. No case report to date has described this unexpected adverse event in a gravid woman with suspected history of IV drug use (IVDU). This diagnosis could potentially become more common with increasing rates of IVDU, and increased education could result in sooner recognition.
