Recent years have elucidated that trafficking in the pediatric population constitutes a broader pattern of child maltreatment. Given the inconsistent engagement with the medical system that trafficked youth can experience, there is growing advocacy promoting streamlined provision of specialized services. One innovative example includes the Adolescent Protection Collaborative (APC) launched at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in 2021.

Importance: Pregnancy induces unique physiologic changes to the immune response and hormonal changes leading to plausible differences in the risk of developing post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC), or Long COVID. Exposure to SARS-CoV-2 during pregnancy may also have long-term ramifications for exposed offspring, and it is critical to evaluate the health outcomes of exposed children. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Multi-site Observational Study of PASC aims to evaluate the long-term sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection in various populations.

Background: This Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) Clinical Practice Statement (CPS) provides an overview of the mechanisms and treatment of obesity and hypertension.

Methods: The scientific support for this CPS is based upon published citations, clinical perspectives of OMA authors, and peer review by the Obesity Medicine Association leadership.

Results: Mechanisms contributing to obesity-related hypertension include unhealthful nutrition, physical inactivity, insulin resistance, increased sympathetic nervous system activity, renal dysfunction, vascular dysfunction, heart dysfunction, increased pancreatic insulin secretion, sleep apnea, and psychosocial stress.

Background: Blunt traumatic abdominal wall hernias (TAWH) occur in <1 % of trauma patients. Optimal repair techniques, such as mesh reinforcement, have not been studied in detail. Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare pregnancy complication characterized by microangiopathic hemolytic anemia and consumption thrombocytopenia. We herein describe the case report of a 32-year-old woman who was six weeks pregnant with twins and developed thrombotic thrombocytic purpura (TTP). The patient had a history of sickle cell trait, migraines, and preeclampsia.

Background: Machine learning (ML)-derived notifications for impending episodes of hemodynamic instability and respiratory failure events are interesting because they can alert physicians in time to intervene before these complications occur.

Research Question: Do ML alerts, telemedicine system (TS)-generated alerts, or biomedical monitors (BMs) have superior performance for predicting episodes of intubation or administration of vasopressors?

Study Design And Methods: An ML algorithm was trained to predict intubation and vasopressor initiation events among critically ill adults. Its performance was compared with BM alarms and TS alerts.

Objective: To quantify immunization status among premature infants discharged from neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), and identify risk factors for underimmunization.

Study Design: We performed a cohort study of infants <33 weeks gestation discharged home between 2011 and 2020 from 241 NICUs. Using multivariable logistic regression, we examined the association between risk factors and underimmunization at discharge, defined as <1 dose of 5 vaccine types when discharged at 60-119 days of age and <2 doses when discharged at 120-179 days of age.

Importance: Preterm infants with varying degrees of anemia have different tissue oxygen saturation responses to red blood cell (RBC) transfusion, and low cerebral saturation may be associated with adverse outcomes.

Objective: To determine whether RBC transfusion in preterm infants is associated with increases in cerebral and mesenteric tissue saturation (Csat and Msat, respectively) or decreases in cerebral and mesenteric fractional tissue oxygen extraction (cFTOE and mFTOE, respectively) and whether associations vary based on degree of anemia, and to investigate the association of Csat with death or neurodevelopmental impairment (NDI) at 22 to 26 months corrected age.
