Medicament allergies in patients with chronic leg ulcers is well recognized. In the past, topical antibiotics, rubber additives and wool alcohols have been the most common reported allergens. Allergy to topical corticosteroids has been reported.

The case of a 53-year-old man who developed chloracne, palmoplantar keratoderma and scleroderma after many years of exposure to a variety of chloracnegens is reported. Chloracne is a rare but important acneiform eruption associated with exposure to halogenated aromatic compounds used primarily in agriculture. However, to our knowledge, the association of palmoplantar keratoderma and scleroderma with exposure to chloracnegens has not been previously reported.

We analysed retrospectively non-acute new referrals of children to Waikato Hospital over one year. It was found that children were required to wait unacceptably long to be seen. Almost half the children with established amblyopia were not seen until after the age of five years (42% were not referred until after that age).

Trial of a disc lens for intercapsular cataract extraction.

The preliminary results are presented of a prospective trial of a new 'disc' intraocular lens. (Pharmacia Model CD801A). Forty-four lenses were implanted into the capsular bag using an intercapsular cataract extraction technique.
