Background: Previously, we developed a co-calibrated and harmonized brain pathology score (BPS) across prospective cohort studies with research brain donation that incorporates multiple forms of postmortem neuropathology, using confirmatory factor analysis. We sought to identify genetic loci associated with BPS using a systems-biology approach, combining data from participants in the Adult Changes in Thought (ACT), the Religious Orders Study, and Rush Memory and Aging Project (ROSMAP) autopsy cohorts.

Method: We used PLINK in each cohort separately for genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of BPS using HRC imputed data from European ancestry participants, adjusting for age at death, sex, and population substructure.

Identifying Factors that Influence Pediatric Echo Lab Image Quality: Development and Validation of a New Assessment Tool.

No method of evaluating transthoracic echocardiograms (TTE) image quality (IQ) has been validated. Furthermore, structural echo lab elements impacting IQ are unknown. We sought to develop and validate a TTE IQ grading tool and determine patient and echo lab features associated with IQ.

Evaluating post-cardiac arrest blood pressure thresholds associated with neurologic outcome in children: Insights from the pediRES-Q database.

Background: Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support Guidelines recommend maintaining blood pressure (BP) above the 5th percentile for age following return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) after cardiac arrest (CA). Emerging evidence suggests that targeting higher thresholds, such as the 10th or 25th percentiles, may improve neurologic outcomes. We aimed to evaluate the association between post-ROSC BP thresholds and neurologic outcome, hypothesizing that maintaining mean arterial pressure (MAP) and systolic blood pressure (SBP) above these thresholds would be associated with improved outcomes at hospital discharge.

Rural houselessness among people who use drugs in the United States: Results from the National Rural Opioid Initiative.

Background: Over the last two decades, houselessness and drug-related epidemics both have expanded from urban to rural regions across the United States (US). However, our understanding of the relationship between rural houselessness, drug use, and drug-related harms has not kept pace. The current study addresses this gap by describing houselessness among a large cohort of people who use drugs (PWUD) from rural communities across 10 states.

Cephalosporins for Outpatient Pyelonephritis in the Emergency Department: COPY-ED Study.

Study Objective: The primary objective of our study was to compare the effectiveness of oral cephalosporins versus fluroquinolones and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (TMP-SMX) for the treatment of pyelonephritis in patients discharged home from the emergency department (ED).

Methods: This was a multicenter, retrospective, observational cohort study of 11 geographically diverse US EDs. Patients aged ≥18 years diagnosed with pyelonephritis and discharged home from the ED between January 1, 2021 and October 31, 2023 were included.

Parent perspectives on the design, implementation, and use of the parent -cigarette and vaping educational resource (P-EVER).

Background: Adolescent use of e-cigarettes has been recognized as a significant public health concern as rates of adolescent vaping increase. As evidence of respiratory damage and other health concerns continue to emerge, educational resources for parents are critical in combating the vaping epidemic. A vaping educational tool can serve as a resource that parents of adolescents can reference to learn about e-cigarette use and how to address this topic with their families.

Champions to enhance implementation of clinical and community-based interventions in cancer: a scoping review.

Background: Champions are integral across research in cancer, yet studies exploring their roles are limited and have produced mixed results. The current review examines and synthesizes descriptions of how champions emerged and the types of activities they most often performed. By examining evidence from across the translational research continuum, this scoping review aims to characterize the role of champions and strategies that facilitate their involvement in the implementation of cancer care interventions in both clinical and community-based settings.

Needs of human resource professionals in implicit bias and disability inclusion training: A focus group study.

Background: Research investigating the implicit bias of employers towards individuals with disabilities emphasizes the importance of increased attention to implicit bias in the workplace. Previous research supports the use of trainings to promote awareness and education of implicit and explicit bias toward people with disabilities among employers.

Objective: The purpose of the current study was to better understand employers' stigmatizing attitudes toward individuals with disabilities and develop effective strategies to increase awareness and knowledge related to these negative attitudes.

A randomized trial testing digital medicine support models for mild-to-moderate alcohol use disorder.

This paper reports the results of a hybrid effectiveness-implementation randomized trial that systematically varied levels of human oversight required to support the implementation of a digital medicine intervention for persons with mild-to-moderate alcohol use disorder (AUD). Participants were randomly assigned to three groups representing possible digital health support models within a health system: self-monitored use (SM; n = 185), peer-supported use (PS; n = 186), or a clinically integrated model CI; (n = 187). Across all three groups, the percentage of self-reported heavy drinking days dropped from 38.

The Discover In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (Discover IHCA) Study: An Investigation of Hospital Practices After In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest.

Importance: In-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) is a significant public health burden. Rates of return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) have been improving, but the best way to care for patients after the initial resuscitation remains poorly understood, and improvements in survival to discharge are stagnant. Existing North American cardiac arrest databases lack comprehensive data on the post-resuscitation period, and we do not know current post-IHCA practice patterns.
