We investigated the presence of spatial genetic groups within forest tree populations and determined if the genetic divergence among these groups is greater than that between populations using Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) as a model species. We genotyped 890 adult trees of Scots pine in six natural populations in Lithuania at 11 nuclear microsatellite loci. We used a Bayesian clustering approach to identify the within-population genetic groups within each of the six populations.

Maize (Zea mays) is an influential crop in its production across the world. However, the invasion of many phytopathogens greatly affects the maize crop yield at various hotspot areas. Of many diseases, bacterial stalk rot of maize caused by Dickeya zeae results in severe yield reduction, thus the need for efficient management is important.

Background: Exposure to air pollution during childhood has been linked with adverse effects on cognitive development and motor function. However, limited research has been done on the associations of air pollution exposure in different microenvironments such as home, school, or while commuting with these outcomes.
Objective: To analyze the association between childhood air pollution exposure in different microenvironments and cognitive and fine motor function from six European birth cohorts.

Every year, millions of women across the globe are diagnosed with breast cancer (BC), an illness that is both common and potentially fatal. To provide effective therapy and enhance patient outcomes, it is essential to make an accurate diagnosis as soon as possible. In recent years, deep-learning (DL) approaches have shown great effectiveness in a variety of medical imaging applications, including the processing of histopathological images.

Self-regulated behavior is a prerequisite for learning and success in life. Considerable research confirms that mature forms of play support the development of self-regulation in the early years. This study explores the relationship between (3-6-year-olds) children's pretend play and self-regulation skills.

Objective: Demographic and infrastructural developments might compromise medical care provision in rural regions, particularly for acute health conditions. Studying the case of myocardial infarction (MI), we investigated how MI-related mortality at ages 65+ varies between rural and urban regions in Germany and to what extent differences are driven by varying case fatality and disease incidence.
Methods: The study relies on data containing all hospitalizations, cause-specific deaths and population counts for the total German population between years 2012-2018 and ages 65+.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive memory loss and cognitive dysfunction brain disorder brought on by the dysfunctional amyloid precursor protein (APP) processing and clearance of APP peptides. Increased APP levels lead to the production of AD-related peptides including the amyloid APP intracellular domain (AICD) and amyloid beta (A), and consequently modify the intrinsic excitability of the hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons, synaptic protein activity, and impair synaptic plasticity at hippocampal CA1-CA3 synapses. The goal of the present study is to build computational models that incorporate the effect of AD-related peptides on CA1 pyramidal neuron and hippocampal synaptic plasticity under the AD conditions and investigate the potential pharmacological treatments that could normalize hippocampal synaptic plasticity and learning in AD.

The mortality impact of COVID-19 has mainly been studied at the national level. However, looking at the aggregate impact of the pandemic at the country level masks heterogeneity at the subnational level. Subnational assessments are essential for the formulation of public health policies.

Previous studies reported that acquiring computer programming skills is challenging and might result in high dropout rates. A quasi-experimental design was used to examine the role of different factors in dropping out of an e-based computer programming course. This study applied a knowledge in programming assessment test (20 multiple-choice questions covering the following topics: variables, loops, conditionals, functions, and general knowledge of Python), The Learning Motivating Factors Questionnaire, The Big Five-2, and The Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction & Frustration Scale.

Background: Siblings of children requiring palliative care are often forgotten and overlooked, as the focus tends to be on the ill child and their parents. Limited knowledge of non-bereaved siblings' perspectives makes it challenging to provide appropriate support for them. A review of existing literature is thus needed to better understand the experiences of these siblings and to identify research gaps that may require further examination.

The continuing attention of scholars and practitioners to the teaching profession, teachers and teaching is based above all on the fact that societal progress is impossible without an effective education system. Teachers are the "soft" dynamic, and at the same time, a driving force in this constantly changing system, and research into the prerequisites for their effective performance requires constant attention. In this study, the main phenomenon under analysis is the emotional resilience of teachers-the internal capacity to adapt, manage or cope with emotionally demanding situations.

Research shows that in providing assistance to individuals who have experienced psychological traumas, it is beneficial not only to take into account the specific religious spiritual needs but also to employ religious resources. Although the role of religious counsellors using various psychological theories in helping to cope with traumatising experiences is acknowledged, there is still a lack of a conceptualising approach to the possibilities of employing religious resources used in Christian spiritual assistance, seeking to help cope with the effects of workplace mobbing. Therefore, this study aims to conceptualise the perspective of integrating Christian spiritual assistance resources in overcoming the individual consequences of workplace mobbing.

Introduction: Previous studies identified some environmental and lifestyle factors independently associated with children respiratory health, but few focused on exposure mixture effects. This study aimed at identifying, in pregnancy and in childhood, combined urban and lifestyle environment profiles associated with respiratory health in children.
Methods: This study is based on the European Human Early-Life Exposome (HELIX) project, combining six birth cohorts.

The aim of this study is to employ panel data approach to investigate determinants of total GHG emissions in all European Union (EU) economies in years 1990-2018 and evaluate the role of nuclear energy in climate change mitigation. It incorporates the following variables potentially affecting the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions: economic-gross domestic product (GDP) per capita and GDP per capita squared to control for non-linear relationship between economic output and GHG emissions; structural-economic structure reflected in the share of manufacturing in total gross value added (GVA); energy-mix-share of nuclear power and renewable sources in total gross electricity production; environmental policy-the amount of environmental taxes (as a percentage of GDP) and the number of European Union Emission Trading System (EU ETS) allowances auctioned or sold (as a percentage of GDP per capita). The main findings of this study confirm the long-run relationship between GHG emissions, GDP level, and energy-mix variables.
