Sci Rep

July 2023

Division for Construction and Operation of Transport Means, Faculty of Transport, Warsaw University of Technology, Koszykowa 75, 00-662, Warsaw, Poland.

Urban railway vehicles are important means of transport in towns and cities due to their high capacity, power source, and low running resistance, which make them efficient for operation. Although these properties are considered advantages, there is still room for improvement in their operational efficiency. The main objective of this article is to investigate the impact of railway wheel design on the level of kinematic running resistance, which is expressed as the amount of mechanical energy losses during the interaction of wheels with rails.

Legal Conflicts and Gaps in the Context of Labor Legislation of Ukraine.

Indian J Labour Econ

January 2023

Poltava Court of Appeal, 24/15, Sobornosti Str., Poltava, 36000 Ukraine.

In the conditions of the democratization of the Ukrainian state, the reform of labor legislation is an objective necessity, about which there are many discussions. The current labor legislation was developed during the existence of strict legal regulation of labor relations, when state property was their economic basis. The relevance of the chosen research topic lies in the fact that the current legislation regulating labor relations is outdated and unbalanced, has problems, shortcomings, conflicts and gaps, and is simply not suitable for regulating this area in a market economy.

The work is devoted to the creation of an energy-saving microwave technology of composite materials for thermal insulation based on an inorganic polymer-liquid glass-and the establishment of the formation patterns of their structure and properties, depending on the parameters of microwave radiation. Due to volumetric heating and the mechanism of "non-thermal" action of microwave radiation on processed objects, the duration of their heating is significantly reduced, and the performance properties of products are improved due to the modification of the structure of the liquid glass matrix under the influence of its irradiation with this type of energy. In the course of the research, the relationship between the processing conditions and the obtained properties of heat-insulating materials was established.

Repair procedures with the use of composite patches are considered to be the most effective among the current technologies of repair of the structures of various applications. In the process of moulding-on of a patch made of polymeric composite material by means of curing, technological stresses arise in the patch. Determination of residual technological stresses is a priority task for the modelling of the repair process.

Medical image classification and diagnosis based on machine learning has made significant achievements and gradually penetrated the healthcare industry. However, medical data characteristics such as relatively small datasets for rare diseases or imbalance in class distribution for rare conditions significantly restrains their adoption and reuse. Imbalanced datasets lead to difficulties in learning and obtaining accurate predictive models.

Stress-Strain Behaviour of Reparable Composite Panel with Step-Variable Thickness.

Polymers (Basel)

November 2021

Institute of Automotive Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Brno University of Technology, Technická 2896/2, 616 69 Brno, Czech Republic.

There is an urgent problem of finding an economically viable method of maintenance and restoration of the bearing capacity of structures of various applications. Repair of structures with patches made of polymeric composite materials is one of the most promising repair technologies. However, an improper choice of parameters of the composite patch leads to unjustified increase in the structure mass and the cost of its further operation.

The paper introduces a multilayer long short-term memory (LSTM) based auto-encoder network to spot abnormalities in fetal ECG. The LSTM network was used to detect patterns in the time series, reconstruct errors and classify a given segment as an anomaly or not. The proposed anomaly detection method provides a filtering procedure able to reproduce ECG variability based on the semi-supervised paradigm.

Self-Heating Mould for Composite Manufacturing.

Polymers (Basel)

September 2021

Institute of Automotive Engineering, Brno University of Technology, Technická 2896/2, 616 69 Brno, Czech Republic.

The shipbuilding industry, engine manufacturing, aviation, rocket and space technology are promising fields of application for polymeric composite materials. Shape-generating moulding tools with internal heating are used for the creation of a more economically viable method of moulding of internally heated composite structures. The use of a fine-fibered resistive structure in the heated tools allows implementation of effective heating of the composite and elimination of the need for expensive and energy-intensive heating equipment.

Research into the Strength of an Open Wagon with Double Sidewalls Filled with Aluminium Foam.

Materials (Basel)

June 2021

Department of Transport and Handling Machines, University of Zilina, Univerzitna 1, 010 26 Zilina, Slovakia.

The research is concerned with the use of double walls filled with aluminium foam for an open wagon in order to decrease the dynamic stresses during the operational modes. The research presents the strength calculation for the bearing structure of an open wagon with consideration of the engineering solutions proposed. It was found that the maximum equivalent stresses appeared in the bottom section of the centre sill behind the back support; they amounted to about 315 MPa and did not exceed the allowable values.

The fetal heart rate (fHR) variability and fetal electrocardiogram (fECG) are considered the most important sources of information about fetal wellbeing. Non-invasive fetal monitoring and analysis of fECG are paramount for clinical trials. They enable examining the fetal health status and detecting the heart rate changes associated with insufficient oxygenation to cut the likelihood of hypoxic fetal injury.

Technological advancements in smart assistive technology enable navigating and manipulating various types of computer-aided devices in the operating room through a contactless gesture interface. Understanding surgeon actions is crucial to natural human-robot interaction in operating room since it means a sort of prediction a human behavior so that the robot can foresee the surgeon's intention, early choose appropriate action and reduce waiting time. In this paper, we present a new deep network based on Convolution Long Short-Term Memory (ConvLSTM) for gesture prediction configured to provide natural interaction between the surgeon and assistive robot and improve operating-room efficiency.
