Neurotransmitter receptors are key molecules in signal transmission in the adult brain, and their precise spatial and temporal balance expressions also play a critical role in normal brain development. However, the specific balance expression of multiple receptors during hippocampal development is not well characterized. In this study, we used quantitative in vivo receptor autoradiography to measure the distributions and densities of 18 neurotransmitter receptor types in the mouse hippocampal complex at postnatal day 7, and compared them with the expressions of their corresponding encoding genes.

Article Synopsis
  • Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) is a genetic disorder that leads to very high LDL cholesterol levels and increased risk for heart disease, and lomitapide shows potential to lower LDL cholesterol levels.
  • A study analyzed the effects of lomitapide on 38 women and 37 men with HoFH, finding similar LDL reduction rates for both sexes, although women showed a greater reduction at six months.
  • Women experienced more gastrointestinal side effects from the treatment, but overall, lomitapide was similarly effective for both genders in reducing cholesterol without significant differences in cardiovascular event outcomes.

An ecological niche is a field in a landscape of affordances, rich in information inviting its inhabitants to develop functionality and effectiveness of their behavior. This idea means that, in sports like soccer, the playing area encapsulates an ecological niche, replete with affordances inviting collective and individual technical-tactical actions, contextualized with associated psychological and physical demands. To examine the co-adaptive relationships framing players' actions in their ecological niche, the present study employed a crossover design with repeated measures to compare the players' transactions within 11 vs.

Suboxides and subselenides: intermediate reaction products to form GaO, GaSe, InO, InSe, SnO, and SnSe during molecular-beam epitaxy.

Phys Chem Chem Phys

January 2025

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania 16802, USA.

The molecular-beam epitaxial (MBE) growth of III-O and IV-O materials (, GaO, InO, and SnO) is known to be reaction-limited by complex 2-step kinetics and the desorption of volatile suboxides (, GaO, InO, SnO). We find that the different surface reactivities of suboxides and respective elements (, Ga, In, Sn) with active oxygen define the film-growth-windows (FGWs) and suboxide-formation-windows (SFWs) of III-O and IV-O materials, respectively. To generalize, we provide elementary reaction pathways and respective Gibbs energies to form binary III-O, III-Se, IV-O, and IV-Se ground-states as well as their subcompounds during their MBE growth.

Group of Applied Physics and Institute for Environmental Sciences, University of Geneva, 66 Bd Carl-Vogt, CH-1211 Geneva 4, Switzerland.

The development of robust Early Warning Signals (EWSs) is necessary to quantify the risk of crossing tipping points in the present-day climate change. Classically, EWSs are statistical measures based on time series of climate state variables, without exploiting their spatial distribution. However, spatial information is crucial to identify the starting location of a transition process and can be directly inferred by satellite observations.

Background And Hypothesis: Kidney macrophage infiltration is a histological hallmark of vasculitic lesions and is strongly linked to disease activity in anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA)-associated glomerulonephritis (AGN). The precise mechanisms by which kidney macrophages influence local inflammation and long-term damage remain largely unknown.

Methods: Here, we investigate kidney macrophage diversity using single-cell transcriptome analysis of 25 485 freshly retrieved unfrozen, high-quality kidney CD45+ immune cells from five AGN patients during active disease, a lupus nephritis and nephrectomy control.

Stabilization of cereblon (CRBN)/neosubstrate complexes with molecular glues followed by degradation of those neosubstrates is an emerging strategy in drug discovery with compelling potential to target certain proteins that were previously considered to be undruggable. In this context, the discovery of novel CRBN ligands is an important area of ongoing research that holds promise to expand the scope of proteins that can be targeted through this mode of action. Herein, we describe the synthesis and evaluation of CRBN ligands featuring heteroaryl glutarimide and dihydrouracil scaffolds.

Whereas molybdenum dinitrogen complexes have played a major role as catalytic model systems of nitrogenase, corresponding tungsten complexes were in most cases found to be catalytically inactive. Herein, we present a modified pentadentate tetrapodal (pentaPod) phosphine ligand in which two dimethylphosphine groups of the pentaPod (P5) ligand have been replaced with phospholanes (Pln). The derived molybdenum complex [Mo(N)P5] generates 22 and the analogous tungsten complex [W(N)P5] 7 equivalents of NH from N in the presence of 180 equivalents of SmI(THF)/HO, rendering the latter the first tungsten complex chemocatalytically converting N to NH.

Loss-of-function variants in ATP6V0A2, encoding the trans Golgi V-ATPase subunit V0a2, cause wrinkly skin syndrome (WSS), a connective tissue disorder with glycosylation defects and aberrant cortical neuron migration. We used knock-out (Atp6v0a2) and knock-in (Atp6v0a2) mice harboring the R755Q missense mutation selectively abolishing V0a2-mediated proton transport to investigate the WSS pathomechanism. Homozygous mutants from both strains displayed a reduction of growth, dermis thickness, and elastic fiber formation compatible with WSS.

B-IT, Department of Life Science Informatics and Data Science, Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität, Friedrich-Hirzebruch-Allee 5/6, Bonn D-53115, Germany.

While data curation principles and practices are a major topic in data science, they are often not explicitly considered in machine learning (ML) applications in chemistry. We have been interested in evaluating the potential effects of data curation on the performance of molecular ML models. Therefore, a sequential curation scheme was developed for compounds and activity data, and different ML classification models were generated at increasing data confidence levels and evaluated.

Background: We aimed to explore the relationship between serum bicarbonate (SBC) and mortality in advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD) during three distinct treatment periods: during the pre-kidney replacement therapy (KRT) period, during the transition phase surrounding the start of KRT (transition-CKD) and during KRT.

Methods: Using the European QUALity Study on treatment in advanced CKD (EQUAL) cohort, which includes patients aged ≥65 years and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≤20 mL/min/1.73 m from six European countries, we explored the association between longitudinal SBC and all-cause mortality in three separate CKD populations: pre-KRT, transition-CKD and in the KRT populations, using multivariable time-dependent Cox regression models.
