Introduction: Disturbances in body image can have an impact on sexual health and are prevalent in women of reproductive age. Although body image is important, the definition of this concept is inconsistent across the disciplines of nursing, medicine, and psychology. Use of a consistent definition in clinical practice and research could lead to a more comprehensive understanding of disturbances in body image, thereby advancing research-based knowledge and clinical practice.

Objectives: Moral distress occurs when professionals cannot carry out what they believe to be ethically appropriate actions because of constraints or barriers. We aimed to assess the validity and reliability of the Japanese translation of the Measure of Moral Distress for Healthcare Professionals (MMD-HP).
Methods: We translated the questionnaire into Japanese according to the instructions of EORTC Quality of Life group translation manual.
Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) affect up to 20% of pregnant and postpartum women and can have negative sequelae for maternal-child health. Nurses with clinical and research roles are on the front line of efforts to assess for and assist with prevention and intervention with PMAD symptoms. Thus, they can play an essential role in enhancing the mental well-being of women in the perinatal period and maternal-child health outcomes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA standard format for depression management has long been the in-person group-based intervention, yet recent calls for scalable interventions have increased interest in individual online formats. However, the perspectives and preferences of women are largely missing in the literature. This secondary qualitative data analysis using a phenomenological method of inquiry explored the lived experiences of pregnant and nonpregnant women with depressive symptoms (N = 44) who participated in 2 studies involving group-based face-to-face mindful physical activity interventions for depressive symptom self-management.

Aim: Our study aimed to examine factors that contribute to cognitive dysfunction in patients with heart failure (HF).
Background: Although a majority of patients with HF have mild to moderate cognitive impairment, little is known about factors that influence progressive cognitive decline in this population.
Methods: We examined the influence of physiological factors (NYHA functional class II - IV, ejection fraction, co-morbidity burden, polypharmacy), psychosocial factors (anxiety, depression, evaluation for advanced therapy), and associated toxicities (anticholinergic drug burden), on cognitive dysfunction.

Intestinal epithelial barrier is critical for the maintenance of normal gut homeostasis and disruption of this barrier may trigger or exaggerate mucosal inflammation. The actin cytoskeleton is a key regulator of barrier structure and function, controlling the assembly and permeability of epithelial adherens and tight junctions. Epithelial cells express two actin isoforms: a β-cytoplasmic actin and γ-cytoplasmic actin.

Background And Objective: Given that most dementia care is provided at home by family caregivers, caregivers' health and outdoor activities may influence persons with dementia (PWDs)' mobility. At the same time, PWDs' functional deterioration and mobility changes might affect mobility behaviours in their caregivers. The aims of this pilot study were to examine the relationship of PWD's life-space mobility (LSM) with their caregiver's LSM and to investigate the role of caregiver and PWD characteristics in determining the level of LSM in both PWDs and caregivers.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the limitations of the current health care workforce. As health care workers across the globe have been overwhelmed by the crisis, oversight entities and training programs have sought to loosen regulations to support ongoing care. Notably, however, workforce challenges preceded the current crisis.

Introduction: We describe findings from a large study that provide empirical support for the emerging construct of cognitive frailty and put forth a theoretical framework that may advance the future study of complex aging conditions. While cognitive impairment and physical frailty have long been studied as separate constructs, recent studies suggest they share common etiologies. We aimed to create a population predictive model to gain an understanding of the underlying biological mechanisms for the relationship between physical frailty and cognitive impairment.

Participation on a collaborative team is an attractive option for conducting research, especially in pediatric hematology/oncology nursing, where the patient population is small. The Consortium to Study Symptoms in Adolescents and Young Adults with Cancer (CSAYAC) is a nursing research team that has been in existence for over a decade. The authors share the process by which CSAYAC formed and describe key features that contribute to its sustainability.

Multiple models of interprofessional rounding (IPR) exist. However, researchers find mixed effects for the impact of IPR, pointing to the possibility that variations in design may influence the effectiveness of the practice. We explored whether IPR design variations (location, use of script, and role of the leader) are associated with team collaboration (partnership and cooperation) and team effectiveness as perceived by practitioners and patients (i.

Background: Managing a medication regimen is a complex self-care activity that requires a high level of integration and coordination between cognitive and physical skills. This scoping review aims to identify available instruments designed to assess an adult individual's ability to manage a medication regimen independently and to identify reliable and valid tools to be used in clinical practice and research.
Methods: Five databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, CINAHL Complete, PsycINFO, Embase, and International Pharmaceutical Abstracts) were searched to identify articles reporting the development of an instrument to assess medication self-management capacity in adults.

Despite the availability of treatments and educational methods, children with asthma continue to report an impaired quality of life, including symptoms of anxiety and inability to participate in physical activity. As complementary health approaches are becoming more popular and show promise in the management of many chronic diseases, the purpose of this integrative review is to examine the state of the science regarding popular complementary health approaches- yoga and mindfulness- for children and adolescents with asthma.

Septins are GTP-binding proteins that self-assemble into high-order cytoskeletal structures, filaments, and rings. The septin cytoskeleton has a number of cellular functions, including regulation of cytokinesis, cell migration, vesicle trafficking, and receptor signaling. A plant cytokinin, forchlorfenuron (FCF), interacts with septin subunits, resulting in the altered organization of the septin cytoskeleton.

Moral distress is a phenomenon increasingly recognized in healthcare that occurs when a clinician is unable to act in a manner consistent with his or her moral requirements due to external constraints. We contend that some experiences of moral distress are self-inflicted due to one's under-assertion of professional authority, and these are potentially avoidable. In this article we outline causes of self-inflicted moral distress and offer recommendations for mitigation.

Well-designed, rigorously implemented instrumentation studies are essential to develop valid, reliable pain assessment tools in non-communicative (non-self-reporting) palliative care patients. When conducting a pain instrumentation study, a research team identified methodologic challenges surrounding informed consent, eligibility criteria, acute pain operational definitions, patient recruitment, missing data, and study-related training during a run-in phase at the beginning of the project and during the conduct of the study. The team dealt with these challenges through identifying root causes, implementing remedial measures, and collecting data to demonstrate improvement or resolution.
