The increasing aging population and aging-associated diseases have become a global issue for decades. People over 65 show an increased prevalence and greater severity of periodontitis, which poses threats to overall health. Studies have demonstrated a significant association between aging and the dysfunction of neutrophils, critical cells in the early stages of periodontitis, and their crosstalk with macrophages and T and B lymphocytes to establish the periodontal lesion.

The prescription of a course of oral antibiotics following bone grafting procedures is a common practice in clinical periodontics to reduce surgical site infections. The goal of this study is to characterize the release profile of antibiotics via local delivery using dendrimer hydrogels (DH) and to analyze the effect of two different particulate bone allografts on the release of the antibiotics in vitro. DH were synthesized from polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimer G5 and polyethylene glycol diacrylate, and cefazolin was chosen as the antibiotic.

Disaster victim identification (DVI) refers to the forensic identification of unknown individuals following a mass disaster event. Human dental structures can contain viable DNA sources when other soft tissues are compromised. However, labor-intensive sample preparation performed by extensively trained personnel is needed to expose the nuclear material for traditional forensic DNA workflows.

Synovial Sarcoma (SS) is driven by the SS18::SSX fusion oncoprotein and is ultimately refractory to therapeutic approaches. SS18::SSX alters ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling BAF (mammalian SWI/SNF) complexes, leading to the degradation of canonical (cBAF) complex and amplified presence of an SS18::SSX-containing non-canonical BAF (ncBAF or GBAF) that drives an SS-specific transcription program and tumorigenesis. We demonstrate that SS18::SSX activates the SUMOylation program and SSs are sensitive to the small molecule SAE1/2 inhibitor, TAK-981.

Low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 6 (LRP6) is a receptor protein for Wnt ligands. Yet, their role in immune cell regulation remains elusive. Here we demonstrated that genetic deletion of LRP6 in macrophages using LysM-cre Lrp6 (Lrp6) mice showed differential inhibition of inflammation in the bleomycin (BLM)-induced lung injury model and B16F10 melanoma lung metastasis model.

Immune responses are crucial to maintaining tissue homeostasis upon tissue injury. Upon various types of challenges, macrophages play a central role in regulating inflammation and tissue repair processes. While an immunomodulatory role of Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1) has been implicated, the role of Wnt antagonist DKK1 in regulating macrophage polarization in inflammation and the tissue repair process remains elusive.

Spirochetes cause Lyme disease, leptospirosis, syphilis, and several other human illnesses. Unlike other bacteria, spirochete flagella are enclosed within the periplasmic space where the filaments distort and push the cell body by the action of the flagellar motors. We previously demonstrated that the oral pathogen (Td) and Lyme disease pathogen (Bb) form covalent lysinoalanine (Lal) cross-links between conserved cysteine and lysine residues of the FlgE protein that composes the flagellar hook.

Introduction: Two-dimensional (2D) radiographs are the standard of care for diagnosis and treatment planning in the day-to-day practice of dentistry. With the growing popularity of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), it is now becoming the standard of care in many areas of general dentistry due to its ability to create non-linear projections from volumetric data. The CBCT-generated non-orthogonal radiographs can serve as easy-to-use 2D and three-dimensional (3D) diagnostic tools and offer a similar experience for diagnosis as conventional 2D images.
