Papillary fibroelastomas are benign masses often originating from the endocardium of the aortic and mitral valves. Rarely, these neoplasms are found in areas of the heart embryonically distinct from the aortic and mitral valves. Diagnosis of a papillary fibroelastoma relies on multimodal imaging as well as histologic assessment.

Background: Cardiomyopathy is the leading cause of death in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) parametric mapping sequences offer insights into disease pathophysiology. We propose a novel approach by leveraging T2 mapping in conjunction with T1 and extracellular volume (ECV) mapping to perform a virtual myocardial biopsy.

Background: Neuroma-induced neuropathic pain is associated with loss of function and reduced quality of life. No consistently effective standard-of-care treatment has been defined. Neurocap, a bioresorbable nerve capping device, has been designed to isolate the nerve stump from surrounding tissues to reduce development of symptomatic end-neuromas.

Background: Past studies have demonstrated that surgeons' perceptions of their own postsurgical complications may not be accurate. The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) database is a nationally validated, risk-adjusted, outcomes-based program created to measure and improve the quality of surgical care. Using information acquired through survey data, the purpose of this study is to determine how surgeons' perceptions of their own postoperative complications rates compare to the NSQIP database that tracks these outcome metrics.

Purpose Of Review: Poor hand hygiene is well documented as a factor in healthcare-associated infections and excellent rates of hand hygiene remains elusive.
Recent Findings: There is increased use of universal or increased gloving to minimize hand contamination, but its use does not replace hand hygiene opportunities. There is significant interest in electronic hand hygiene monitoring systems, but they are not without their unique issues.

The pathophysiology of hydrocephalus is not clearly defined. Thus, treatment will remain empirical until a fuller understanding of the various forms of hydrocephalus is achieved. Valve-controlled shunting has been the mainstay of therapy since the late 1950s.

To characterize societal participation profiles after moderate-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) along objective (Frequency) and subjective (Satisfaction, Importance, Enfranchisement) dimensions. We conducted secondary analyses of a TBI Model Systems sub-study ( = 408). Multiaxial assessment of participation included the Participation Assessment with Recombined Tools-Objective and -Subjective questionnaires (Participation Frequency and Importance/Satisfaction, respectively) and the Enfranchisement Scale.

Various positioning techniques have been described for the osteosynthesis of olecranon fractures, each with their own pros and cons. The supine position is time-efficient and better suited in a polytrauma setting but frequently requires an assistant to maintain optimal limb positioning. Also, adequate fluoroscopic imaging is not possible without moving the operative extremity outside the sterile field.

Background: Biomarkers represent a potential tool to identify individuals at risk for anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity (AICT) prior to symptom onset or left ventricular dysfunction.
Methods: This study examined the levels of cardiac and noncardiac biomarkers before, after the last dose of, and 3-6 months after completion of doxorubicin chemotherapy. Cardiac biomarkers included 5th generation high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (cTnT), N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, growth/differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15), and soluble suppression of tumorigenesis-2 (sST2).
