Nucleocapsid protein (N) of SARS-CoV-2 is a multivalent protein, which is responsible for viral replication, assembly, packaging and modulates host immune response. In this study, we report conformational measurements of N protein at different pH by observing transition in secondary and tertiary structural contents by biophysical and computational approaches. Spectroscopic measurements revealed that N protein loses its secondary and tertiary structure at extreme acidic pH while maintaining its native conformation at mild acidic and alkaline pH.

Primary Care Screening for Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Among People With HIV in the United States: A Real-World Provider Survey.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is highly prevalent in people with HIV (PWH) and increases the risk of hepatic fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. We sent an online survey to providers of the American Academy of HIV Medicine. Of respondents (n = 214, 8% response rate), 65% reported screening for NAFLD in PWH, with 28% routinely screening all patients.

Missed Distal Femoral Cortical Perforation During Intramedullary Nailing of an Intertrochanteric Femur Fracture: The Role of Early Advanced Imaging.

Distal femoral anterior cortical perforation is a rare complication of intramedullary nailing for proximal femur fractures. Awareness and intraoperative preventive measures are key to minimizing the risk of this complication. We report a case of a patient who experienced an anterior cortical breach of the distal femur during routine antegrade nailing for an intertrochanteric fracture, which was attributed to a sclerotic lesion in the distal femur.

The PFC is involved in the decision to void, and dysfunction in the region has been associated with overactive bladder (OAB). This study demonstrates neuroexcitation differences in the brain region associated with the decision to void (prefrontal cortex) using noninvasive fNIRS.

Consumer views of functional electrical stimulation and robotic exoskeleton in SCI rehabilitation: A mini review.

Background: Functional electrical stimulation (FES) and robotic exoskeletons represent emerging technologies with significant potential for restoring critical physical functions such as standing and walking-functions that are most susceptible after spinal cord injury (SCI). However, the further development and successful integration of these technologies into clinical practice and daily life require a deep understanding of consumer perspectives.

Objective: This review synthesizes consumer perspectives from a diverse range of technology stakeholders, including medical service providers, researchers, and persons affected by SCI-those living with SCI and their caregivers.

Community Participation in Native American and White Individuals After Traumatic Brain Injury: A 5-Year Longitudinal Model Systems Study.

Purpose/objective: This study examined (a) differences in demographic and injury-related characteristics following traumatic brain injury (TBI) between Native American and White individuals; (b) differences in community participation between Native American and White individuals with TBI at 1, 2, and 5 years after TBI; and (c) whether demographic or injury-related characteristics account for community participation disparities.

Research Method/design: A sample of 63 Native American individuals demographically matched to 63 White individuals (n = 126) was enrolled while on acute rehabilitation for moderate or severe TBI. Baseline demographic and injury-related characteristics were collected at this time and the Participation Assessment with Recombined Tools (PART-O) measure of community participation at 1, 2, and 5 years after TBI.

Substance use and substance use disorders run in families. While it has long been recognized that the etiology of substance use behaviors and disorders involves a combination of genetic and environmental factors, two key questions remain largely unanswered: (1) the intergenerational transmission through which these genetic predispositions are passed from parents to children, and (2) the molecular mechanisms linking genetic variants to substance use behaviors and disorders. Objectives: The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that targeted chemical ganglionated plexi (GP) modulation of all major left atrial-pulmonary vein GP using novel nanoformulated calcium chloride (nCaCl) can reverse postoperative neuroelectrical remodeling by suppressing vagosympathetic nerve activity and the localized inflammatory process, both critical substrates of POAF.
