Aims And Objectives: Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a serious complication after total joint arthroplasty (TJA) and is associated with significant morbidity, mortality, and cost. This pilot study primarily aimed to investigate if preoperative dental screenings would impact the rate of PJI following TJA when compared to historical controls. Secondarily, this study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of dental pathology in patients undergoing TJA.

Noninvasive and invasive imaging modalities play important roles for the detection of patent foramen ovale (PFO). Transthoracic echocardiography or transcranial Doppler bubble study can be used for initial noninvasive PFO screening. For diagnostic confirmation, transesophageal echocardiography bubble study can be utilized, a semiinvasive confirmatory test that can directly visualize a PFO.

Background: Obesity is a complex disease that leads to higher morbidity and mortality and its rate in the United States is rapidly rising. Targeting obesity management is one of the cornerstones of preventive medicine. Early intervention can significantly reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

Uroflowmetry (UF) is a crucial guideline-recommended tool for men with benign prostatic obstruction (BPO). Moreover, UF is a helpful decision-making tool for the management of patients with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In the last few years, telemedicine and telehealth have increased exponentially as cost-effective treatment options for both patients and physicians.

Background And Aims: In alcoholic hepatitis (AH), increases in the total bilirubin (TB) and the prothrombin time (PT), which are included in the Maddrey's discriminant function (MDF) and the model for end-stage liver disease (MELD), are associated with poor outcomes. However, the impact of which control PT in the MDF to use compared to the MELD on the outcomes in AH is unknown. Our aim is to determine whether the choice of the control PT used in the MDF calculations has any impact on steroid use and survival when compared to the MELD in those with AH.

Osmotic demyelination syndrome is a neurological disorder caused by damage to the myelin sheath of brain cells secondary to rapid correction of hyponatremia. Clinical features are variable depending on the location of demyelination, with diagnosis confirmed by MRI. Once diagnosed, treatment is supportive.

Background: Ablative techniques emerged as effective alternative to nephron-sparing surgery for treatment of small renal masses. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and cryoablation (CRYO) are the two guidelines-recommended techniques. Microwave ablation (MWA) represents a newer technology, less described.

Background: Patients with hormone receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer who have residual invasive disease after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) are at a high risk of relapse. PENELOPE-B was a double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase III trial that investigated adding palbociclib (PAL) for thirteen 28-day cycles to adjuvant endocrine therapy (ET) in these patients. Clinical results showed no significant improvement in invasive disease-free survival with PAL.

Background: The Rezum system is one of the latest minimally invasive surgical treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all patients who underwent the Rezum treatment in seven different Italian institutions. A successful urinary outcome was defined as: ≥50% improvement in the IPSS <7, improvement in peak flow ≥50% and/or more than 15 ml/s, ≥1-point improvement in the QoL questionnaire and in the absence of perioperative major complications (AUR, transfusion) or postoperative incontinence.

Background Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is often present in coronary artery disease patients and confers a high risk of complications following percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). The impact of two commonly associated comorbid conditions, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS, Pickwickian syndrome) in OSA patients undergoing PCI has never been studied. Methods The National Inpatient Sample (NIS; 2007-2014) was queried using the International Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification 9 (ICD-9-CM) codes to compare baseline characteristics, comorbidities, and outcomes in adults undergoing PCI with OSA, COPD-overlap syndrome, and OSA+OHS.

Metabolomic analysis has proven to be a useful tool in biomarker discovery and the molecular classification of cancers. In order to find new biomarkers, and to better understand its pathological behavior, bladder cancer also has been studied using a metabolomics approach. In this article, we review the literature on metabolomic studies of bladder cancer, focusing on the different available samples (urine, blood, tissue samples) used to perform the studies and their relative findings.

Background: Avascular necrosis is a delayed complication of proximal humerus fractures that increases the likelihood of poor clinical outcomes. CT scans are routinely performed to guide proximal humerus fracture management. We hypothesized iodine concentration on post-contrast dual energy CT scans identifies subjects who develop avascular necrosis and ischemia due to compromised blood flow.

Complex, high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention (HR-PCI) is increasingly being performed, often with mechanical circulatory support (MCS), though to date, there are limited randomised data on the efficacy of MCS for HR-PCI. The majority of MCS is provided by intra-aortic balloon pumps, but increasingly Impella® (Abiomed, Danvers, MA, USA) heart pumps are being used. While the Impella pumps provide greater increases in cardiac output, these devices require large bore access, which has been associated with an increased risk of bleeding and vascular complications.

Apical variant hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (AHCM) is characterized by asymmetric hypertrophy of the left ventricular (LV) apex. T wave inversions of variable degree, particularly in the left precordial leads, and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) are common EKG findings in AHCM. Echocardiography is typically the initial imaging modality used in the diagnosis and evaluation of AHCM.

Objectives: To assess the use of hyper-accuracy three-dimensional (HA3D™; MEDICS, Moncalieri, Turin, Italy) reconstruction based on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) and superimposed imaging during augmented-reality robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (AR-RARP).
Patients And Methods: Patients with prostate cancer (clinical stages cT1-3, cN0, cM0) undergoing RARP at our Centre, from June 2017 to April 2018, were enrolled. In all cases, cancer was diagnosed with targeted biopsy at the level of index lesion based on high-resolution (1-mm slices) mpMRI.
