Background: Postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) after major abdominal surgery leads to poor outcomes. The Hypotension Prediction Index (HPI) may aid in managing intraoperative hemodynamic instability. This study assessed if HPI-guided therapy reduces moderate-to-severe AKI incidence in moderate-to-high-risk elective abdominal surgery patients.

Lymph node metastasis (LNM) significantly affects the prognosis and clinical management of breast cancer (BC) patients. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to identify microRNAs (miRNAs) associated with LNM in BC and evaluate their potential diagnostic and prognostic value. Following PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, and SCOPUS databases, to assess the role of miRNAs in LNM BC.

However, class-Ic drugs might be proarrhythmic in some cases. We investigated the molecular mechanisms of class-I AADs proarrhythmia and whether they might increase the risk of death in ATS1 patients with structurally normal hearts.

Background: Liver grafts from donation after circulatory death (DCD) are associated with a higher risk of early graft dysfunction, determined by the warm ischemia and cold ischemia times. It is essential to have precise criteria to identify this complication in order to guide therapeutic strategies.
Aim: To validate different graft and recipient survival scores in patients undergoing liver transplantation (LT) with DCD grafts.

Increasing infertility rates represent a growing medical challenge in modern societies resulting from a complex interplay of sociocultural trends, lifestyle factors, exposure to environmental toxins, and underlying health problems. Women's fertility is particularly vulnerable to these shifts. The obesogenic lifestyle not only accelerates weight gain, but also disrupts ovulation driving the rise in infertility.

Although chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy has revolutionized type B cancer treatment, efficacy remains limited in various lymphomas and solid tumors. Reinforcing conventional CAR-T cells to release cytokines can improve their efficacy but also increase safety concerns. Several strategies have been developed to regulate their secretion using minimal promoters that are controlled by chimeric proteins harboring transactivators.

Background: Among inherited cardiomyopathies involving the left ventricle, whether dilated or not, certain genotypes carry a well-established arrhythmic risk, notably manifested as sustained monomorphic ventricular tachycardia (SMVT). Nonetheless, the precise localization and electrophysiological profile of this substrate remain undisclosed across different genotypes.
Methods: Patients diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and left ventricle involvement due to high-risk genetic variants and SMVT treated by electrophysiological study were recruited from 18 European/US centers.

Background: The role of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in sleeve gastrectomy (SG)-related outcomes remains uncertain. In this study, we aimed to assess the influence of preoperative biopsy-proven MASLD and its stages on weight loss after SG.
Methods: One hundred sixty-three patients with obesity undergoing SG with concomitant intraoperative liver biopsy were followed up for 1 year.

Carbapenems are one of the mainstays of treatment for antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB). This has made the rise of carbapenem-resistant bacteria a threat to global health. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) has identified carbapenem-resistant bacteria as critical pathogens, and the development of novel antibacterials capable of combating infections caused by these bacteria is a priority.

Numerous anatomical and imaging studies have established a close relation between disc displacement of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and the medial wall of the TMJ. These studies have revealed a direct association between disc displacement without reduction (DDWoR) and the occurrence of fatty degeneration within the superior fascicle of the lateral pterygoid muscle (SPLM). While the aetiology of this phenomenon remains unclear, it has been suggested that it stems from the interaction between this muscle fascicle and the bony surface of the medial wall of the joint.

Background: Vector field heterogeneity (VFH) is a novel omnipolar metric to quantify local propagation heterogeneities that may identify functionally critical sites for ablation in scar-related ventricular tachycardia (VT).
Objective: This study aims to assess the diagnostic value of VFH to identify abnormal propagation patterns during ventricular substrate mapping and compare VFH in VT isthmus sites (IS), low-voltage bystander area (LVA) , and normal voltage areas (NVAa).
Methods: Substrate maps acquired with a 16-pole grid catheter in patients with scar-related VT were segmented into sites corresponding to IS, LVA, and NVA (defined as omnipolar voltages > and <1.

Background: Post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF) can significantly compromise outcomes, especially in cirrhotic patients. The identification of accurate and non-invasive pre-operative predictors is of paramount importance to appropriately stratify patients according to their estimated risk and select the best treatment strategy.
Materials And Methods: Consecutive patients undergoing liver resection for HCC on cirrhosis between 1-2015 and 12-2020 at 10 international Institutions were enrolled and their pre-operative CT scans were evaluated for the presence of spontaneous portosystemic shunts (SPSS) to identify predictors of PHLF and develop a nomogram.

Background: Currently, prostate cancer (PCa) diagnosis relies on the human analysis of prostate biopsy Whole Slide Images (WSIs) using the Gleason score. Since this process is error-prone and time-consuming, recent advances in machine learning have promoted the use of automated systems to assist pathologists. Unfortunately, labeled datasets for training and validation are scarce due to the need for expert pathologists to provide ground-truth labels.

Human plasma is a natural biomaterial that due to their protein composition is widely used for the development of clinical products, especially in the field of dermatology. In this context, this biomaterial has been used as a scaffold alone or combined with others for the development of cellular human plasma-based skin substitutes (HPSSs). Herein, the biological properties (cell viability, cell metabolic activity, protein secretion profile and histology) of several variations of a clinical HPSS model, regarding the biomaterial composition (alone or combined with six secondary biomaterials - serine, fibronectin, collagen, two types of laminins and hyaluronic acid), the cellular structure (trilayer, bilayer, monolayer and control without cells) and their skin tissue of origin (abdominal or foreskin cells) and the manufacturing process [effect of partial dehydration process in cell viability and comparison between submerged (SUB) and air/liquid interface (ALI) methodologies] have been evaluated and compared.

Background: fasting-based strategies (FBS) and continuous caloric restriction (CCR) are popular methods for weight loss and improving metabolic health. FBS alternates between eating and fasting periods, while CCR reduces daily calorie intake consistently. Both aim to create a calorie deficit, but it is still uncertain as to which is more effective for short- and long-term weight and metabolic outcomes.

The ability of serum biomarkers to predict the prognosis and response to deep-brain stimulation (DBS) therapy in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients is promising. Here, we showed that NfL differed between healthy individuals and PD patients and that changes in NfL, GFAP, and BDNF occurred only transiently after DBS surgery. Therefore, subthalamic stimulation does not promote neurodegeneration, and these biomarkers do not serve as clinical improvement endpoints in PD DBS patients.

Background: Malnutrition and sarcopenia are highly prevalent in patients with head neck cancer (HNC). An accurate early diagnosis is necessary for starting nutritional support, as both are clearly associated with clinical outcomes and mortality. We aimed to evaluate the applicability and accuracy of body composition analysis using electrical bioimpedance vectorial analysis (BIVA) for diagnosing malnutrition and sarcopenia in patients with HNC cancer undergoing systemic treatment with chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
