Bladder cancer (BC) represents a wide spectrum of diseases, ranging from recurrent non-invasive tumors to advanced stages that require intensive treatments. BC accounts for an estimated 500,000 new cases and 200,000 deaths worldwide every year. Understanding the biology of BC has changed how this disease is diagnosed and treated.

Asthma is, worldwide, the most frequent non-communicable disease affecting both children and adults, with high morbidity and relatively low mortality, compared to other chronic diseases. In recent decades, the prevalence of asthma has increased in the pediatric population, and, in general, the risk of developing asthma and asthma-like symptoms is higher in children during the first years of life. The "gut-lung axis" concept explains how the gut microbiota influences lung immune function, acting both directly, by stimulating the innate immune system, and indirectly, through the metabolites it generates.

Background: Monoclonal antibodies targeting calcitonin gene-related peptide (anti-CGRP mAbs) have shown clinical effectiveness and safety in randomized clinical studies. However, long-term studies in clinical practice remain limited.
Aim: To assess the long-term effectiveness, clinical predictors and safety of three anti-CGRP mAbs (erenumab, galcanezumab, fremanezumab) in resistant migraine patients.

Background: Some studies have reported that polyamine levels may influence immune system programming. The aim of this study was to evaluate the polyamine profile during gestation and its associations with maternal allergy and cytokine production in cord blood cells in response to different allergenic stimuli.
Methods: Polyamines were determined in plasma of pregnant women (24 weeks, N = 674) and in umbilical cord samples (N = 353 vein and N = 160 artery) from the Mediterranean NELA birth cohort.

Background & Aims: Prenatal folate exposure may alter epigenetic marks in the offspring. We aimed to evaluate associations between prenatal exposure to folic acid (FA) in preconception and in utero with cord blood DNA methylation in long interspersed nuclear element 1 (LINE-1) and Alu short interspersed nuclear elements (SINEs) as markers of global DNA methylation levels.
Methods: Data come from 325 mother-child pairs participating in the Nutrition in Early Life and Asthma (NELA) birth cohort (2015-2018).

Background: Primary hyperparathyroidism can impact patient quality of life with psychopathological symptoms like mood and sleep disturbances. In the latest recommendations published according to the primary hyperparathyroidism surgical consensus, these neuropsychological symptoms continue to be excluded. This study aims to assess the negative effects of mood and sleep on patients with primary hyperparathyroidism compared to healthy controls and analyze their improvement after surgery.

Rationale: In-stent reocclusion after endovascular therapy has a negative impact on outcomes in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to tandem lesions (TL). Optimal antiplatelet therapy approach in these patients to avoid in-stent reocclusion is yet to be elucidated.
Aims: To assess efficacy and safety of intravenous tirofiban versus intravenous aspirin in patients undergoing MT plus carotid stenting in the setting of AIS due to TL.

Purpose: To assess the role of pretreatment multiparametric (mp)MRI-based radiomic features in predicting pathologic complete response (pCR) of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) to neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy (nCRT).
Methods: This was a retrospective dual-center study including 98 patients (M/F 77/21, mean age 60 years) with LARC who underwent pretreatment mpMRI followed by nCRT and total mesorectal excision or watch and wait. Fifty-eight patients from institution 1 constituted the training set and 40 from institution 2 the validation set.

People are daily exposed to multiple endocrine disruptor compounds (EDCs) that may interfere with different molecular and cellular processes, promoting a potential estrogenic, androgenic, or anti-androgenic state. However, most epidemiological studies attempting to establish relationships between EDCs exposure and health effects are still considering individual compounds. A few studies have shown associations between exposure to individual non-persistent EDCs and sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) in different male populations.

(1) Background: Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are a major public health problem due to their consequences in sexual and reproductive health. There is a close link between the crisis and the increase in communicable diseases. The objective of this study was to analyse the evolution of Sexually Transmitted Infections during the period 2000-2018 in the population attending the Centre for Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Sexual Orientation in Granada (Spain), specifically comparing the pre-crisis, crisis, and post-crisis periods.

Increasing data on treosulfan-based conditioning regimens before hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) demonstrate the consistent benefits of this approach, particularly regarding acute toxicity. This study aimed to describe the results of treosulfan-based conditioning regimens in children, focusing on toxicity and outcomes when used to treat both malignant and nonmalignant diseases. This retrospective observational study of pediatric patients treated in Spain with treosulfan-based conditioning regimens before HSCT was based on data collection from electronic clinical records.

Foramen magnum stenosis is a serious, and potentially life-threatening complication of achondroplasia. The foramen magnum is smaller in infants with achondroplasia, compared with the general population, and both restricted growth in the first 2 years and premature closure of skull plate synchondroses can contribute to narrowing. Narrowing of the foramen magnum can lead to compression of the brainstem and spinal cord, and result in sleep apnoea and sudden death.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate hematological and cardiac changes after early (ECC) versus delayed cord clamping (DCC) in preterm infants at 24-34 weeks of gestation.
Methods: Ninety-six healthy pregnant women were assigned randomly to the ECC (< 10 s postpartum, n = 49) or DCC (45-60 s postpartum, n = 47). Primary endpoint was evaluation of neonatal hemoglobin, hematocrit and bilirrubin levels within the first 7 days after birth.

Introduction: The female reproductive tract harbours unique microbial communities (known as microbiota) which have been associated with reproductive functions in health and disease. While endometrial microbiome studies have shown that the uterus possesses higher bacterial diversity and richness compared to the vagina, the knowledge regarding the composition of the Fallopian tubes (FT) is lacking, especially in fertile women without any underlying conditions.
Methods: To address this gap, our study included 19 patients who underwent abdominal hysterectomy for benign uterine pathology, and 5 women who underwent tubal ligation as a permanent contraceptive method at Hospital Clínico Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca (HCUVA).

Background: Collection of real-world evidence (RWE) is important in achondroplasia. Development of a prospective, shared, international resource that follows the principles of findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reuse of digital assets, and that captures long-term, high-quality data, would improve understanding of the natural history of achondroplasia, quality of life, and related outcomes.
Methods: The Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Achondroplasia Steering Committee comprises a multidisciplinary team of 17 clinical experts and 3 advocacy organization representatives.

Introduction: Most of the pregnant women do not achieve the recommended dietary intake of vitamins A and E. These vitamins may counteract oxidative stress involved in some adverse perinatal outcomes. We aimed to assess the associations between maternal vitamin A and E at mid-pregnancy with both maternal and fetal outcomes and to identify possible early biomarkers during pregnancy to predict and prevent oxidative stress in the offspring.

Background: In-stent thrombosis after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) worsen outcomes in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to tandem lesions (TL). Although an optimal antiplatelet therapy is needed, the best approach to avoid in-stent thrombosis is yet to be elucidated.
Hypothesis: Low-dose intravenous tirofiban is superior to intravenous aspirin in avoiding in-stent thrombosis in patients undergoing MT plus carotid stenting in the setting of AIS due to TL.
