Britholites are the lanthanide-silica-rich end-members of the apatite group, commonly studied for their optical properties. Here, we show ∼50-100 μm single crystals synthesized hydrothermally at 650-500 °C and 500-300 MPa composed of a solid solution between CaPr(SiO)F-fluorbritholite and CaPr(SiO)O-oxybritholite, with a significant carbonate component substitution, via C replacing Si. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction and density functional theory computations show that a planar carbonate group occupies the face of a now-vacant silica tetrahedron.

The increasing accumulation of rock waste obtained due to ore processing and its environmental impacts, such as acid mine drainage and elevated concentrations of heavy metals in soils, necessitates the transformation of mining technologies based on the concept of circular waste management. The research is aimed at improving the parameters of the mechanical activation effect produced on technogenic georesources, as well as at expanding the application scope of disintegrators in the field of using the partial backfill of the mined-out space when developing stratified deposits. In this regard, the research purpose was to substantiate the parameters of extracting metals from enrichment tailings using their mechanochemical activation to ensure cyclic waste management.

Carbon materials are promising for use as electrodes for supercapacitors and lithium-ion batteries due to a number of properties, such as non-toxicity, high specific surface area, good electronic conductivity, chemical inertness, and a wide operating temperature range. Carbon-based electrodes, with their characteristic high specific power and good cyclic stability, can be used for a new generation of consumer electronics, biomedical devices and hybrid electric vehicles. However, most carbon materials, due to their low electrical conductivity and insufficient diffusion of electrolyte ions in complex micropores, have energy density limitations in these devices due to insufficient number of pores for electrolyte diffusion.

Synthesis in the radiation field is a promising direction for the development of materials transformation processes, especially those differing in melting temperature. It has been established that the synthesis of yttrium-aluminum ceramics from yttrium oxides and aluminum metals in the region of a powerful high-energy electron flux is realized in 1 s, without any manifestations that facilitate synthesis, with high productivity. It is assumed that the high rate and efficiency of synthesis are due to processes that are realized with the formation of radicals, short-lived defects formed during the decay of electronic excitations.

Molecular and stable isotope compositions of hydrate-bound gases collected from 59 hydrate-bearing sites between 2005 to 2019 in the southern and central sub-basins of Lake Baikal are reported. The δH of the hydrate-bound methane is distributed between - 310‰ and - 270‰, approximately 120‰ lower than its value in the marine environment, due to the difference in δH between the lake water and seawater. Hydrate-bound gases originate from microbial (primary and secondary), thermogenic, and mixed gas sources.

A new approach is introduced to obtain information about the adiabatic potential energy surface of the Jahn-Teller (JT) complexes subject to theT⊗e+t2problem in doped crystals. It employs simulation of the contribution of the JT sub-system to ultrasonic attenuation with account of three mechanisms of relaxation and subsequent comparison with the experimental data on temperature dependence of the attenuation obtained with the use of doped crystal and nominally pure one. The approach has been applied to the CaFcrystal doped with chromium.
