Source apportionment (SA) for indoor air pollution is challenging due to the multiplicity and high variability of indoor sources, the complex physical and chemical processes that act as primary sources, sinks and sources of precursors that lead to secondary formation, and the interconnection with the outdoor environment. While the major indoor sources have been recognized, there is still a need for understanding the contribution of indoor versus outdoor-generated pollutants penetrating indoors, and how SA is influenced by the complex processes that occur in indoor environments. This paper reviews our current understanding of SA, through reviewing information on the SA techniques used, the targeted pollutants that have been studied to date, and their source apportionment, along with limitations or knowledge gaps in this research field.

Dynamics of the driven Frenkel-Kontorova model with asymmetric deformable substrate potential is examined by analyzing response function, the largest Lyapunov exponent, and Poincaré sections for two neighboring particles. The obtained results show that the largest Lyapunov exponent, besides being used for investigating integral quantities, can be used for detecting microchanges in chain configuration of both damped Frenkel-Kontorova model with inertial term and its strictly overdamped limit. Slight changes in relative positions of the particles are registered through jumps of the largest Lyapunov exponent in the pinning regime.

Gully erosion leads to the formation of deep and wide channels that increase the risk of soil loss, flooding, and water pollution. In addition, this process reduces the productivity and viability of agricultural land and natural ecosystems. Preventing gully erosion is critical for maintaining ecological balance and preserving natural resources in certain areas.

To develop novel luminescent materials for optical temperature measurement, a series of Yb- and Er-doped CaScSiO (CSS) upconversion (UC) phosphors were synthesized by the sol-gel combustion method. The crystal structure, phase purity, and element distribution of the samples were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and a transmission electron microscope (TEM). The detailed study of the photoluminescence emission spectra of the samples shows that the addition of Yb can greatly enhance the emission of Er by effective energy transfer.

New sets of parameter tunes for two of the colour reconnection models, quantum chromodynamics-inspired and gluon-move, implemented in the pythia 8 event generator, are obtained based on the default CMS pythia 8 underlying-event tune, CP5. Measurements sensitive to the underlying event performed by the CMS experiment at centre-of-mass energies and 13, and by the CDF experiment at 1.96 are used to constrain the parameters of colour reconnection models and multiple-parton interactions simultaneously.

A measurement of the jet mass distribution in hadronic decays of Lorentz-boosted top quarks is presented. The measurement is performed in the lepton + jets channel of top quark pair production () events, where the lepton is an electron or muon. The products of the hadronic top quark decay are reconstructed using a single large-radius jet with transverse momentum greater than 400.

More environment-friendly solvents in analytical chemistry are almost inevitable in both sample preparation and analysis to meet the high standards of sustainable chemistry and human welfare. In this review paper, a critical look at the advantages and still unsolved problems of most potential classes of green solvents is presented to give an overview of the current state-of-the-art in this field. Replacing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by ecofriendly and benign solvents in extractions/separations in sample preparation, as the most tedious and demanding step in analysis, is one of roads toward sustainable chemistry.
