Cashew nut testa, a by-product of cashew nut processing, is abundant in phenolic compounds and exhibits strong antioxidant properties, making it a potential additive for enhancing the antioxidant properties of biodegradable films used in food packaging. This study explores the fabrication of biodegradable chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol films incorporating varying concentrations of cashew nut testa extract (CNTE; 0, 1, 2 and 3% v/v) and evaluates their physical, structural, mechanical, optical and antioxidant properties. The results demonstrate that increasing extract concentration generally increased the thickness, tensile strength, Young's modulus, thermal stability and antioxidant capacity of the films, while reducing the moisture content, swelling degree, elongation at break, and light transmittance.

Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) compatibility between donors and recipients plays a critical role in graft survival in renal transplantation. This study evaluates the impact of HLA mismatching on graft survival and rejection among renal transplant recipients with related and unrelated donors, considering factors such as age, sex, ABO blood type, and anti-HLA antibodies. We investigated the graft survival rates between related and unrelated donors in a prospective cohort study conducted from 2018 to 2020 at Cho Ray Hospital and People's Hospital 115 in Vietnam, involving 126 related and 82 unrelated donor-recipient pairs.

A simple grinding method using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as a capping agent is introduced to synthesize CoFeO nanoparticles. The effects of calcination temperature (ranging from 450 to 850 °C) on the structural, morphological, physical, and optical properties of the materials are investigated using various techniques, including thermogravimetric analysis/differential scanning calorimetry (TGA/DSC), powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N adsorption isotherm, ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS), and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). The presence of PVP significantly suppresses the agglomeration of the materials, resulting in a nanocrystalline size of 18 nm for a sample calcined at 650 °C, which is approximately 38% smaller than that of the sample synthesized without PVP.

This study aimed to elucidate the risk of developing breast cancer (BC) by reproductive and hormonal profiles to suggest risk-adapted starting screening ages and to investigate risks after negative mammography results to inform screening intervals in the Korean setting. Participants who performed health examinations between 2002 and 2023 at the National Cancer Center were analyzed. Risk-adapted starting age of screening was defined as the age at which women with various reproductive and hormonal profiles obtained a 10-year cumulative risk level similar to women aged 40 years in the general population.

We developed a method for allowing cascade cyclization of 2-nitrochalcones with pyrazoles, imidazole, and indazole in the presence of CuI catalyst, DBU base, and THF solvent. The conditions were tolerant of an array of useful functionalities including ester, nitro, cyano, halogen groups. A mechanistic consideration was also provided, as HO was presumably a byproduct.

The growing demand for electronic storage devices with faster charging rates, higher energy capacities, and longer cycle lives has led to significant advancements in supercapacitor technology. These devices typically utilize high-surface-area carbon-based materials as electrodes, which provide excellent power densities and cycling stability. However, challenges such as inadequate electrolyte interaction, hydrophobicity that impedes ion transport, and high manufacturing costs restrict their effectiveness.

We developed a novel strategy for synthesizing a highly acidic microporous hybrid titanium phosphate material (H-TiPOx) by incorporating 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) into the titanium phosphate framework. This new H-TiPOx serves as a Brønsted acid catalyst, exhibiting remarkable total surface acidity of 5.9 mmol g and it efficiently catalyzes the acetalization of abundant biomass derived glycerol to solketal with over 99% selectivity.

In this work, ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) are synthesized using avocado seed extract and annealed at different annealing temperatures from 400 to 800 °C. The morphology of the nanoparticles changes from poly shapes at 400 °C to spherical ones at 800 °C, and particle sizes increase from ∼42 nm to ∼128 nm. The Ag/ZnO@400/FTO memory device exhibits stable resistive switching over 100 cycles and a resistance window of approximately 150.

CeO supported with Ni nanoparticles has emerged as a promising catalyst for enhancing the efficiency of dry reforming of methane (DRM) reaction. Methane dissociation (CH → CH + H) was reported as one of the rate-determining steps in the DRM reaction. We elucidated the reaction mechanism and explored methods for reducing the activation energy using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, where the activation energy of methane dissociation was determined at multiple Ni cluster sites on CeO.

The data in this work provides the effect of aging temperature on manganese oxide allotropes prepared by hydrothermal method in the presence of boron dopant. The synthesized samples were labeled as B/MnO -100, B/MnO -150, and B/MnO -180 corresponding to the hydrothermal temperature at 100, 150, and 180 °C, respectively. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) methods were conducted to clarify the crystalline structure, as well as the amount of potassium, manganese, and boron elements in the three synthesized samples.

A woman in her 30s with a history of multiple bone fractures unexpectedly became pregnant and delivered a full-term baby through cesarean section, despite suffering from excruciating pain without any apparent cause or specific treatment. The patient was referred to our endocrine clinic following childbirth. Blood tests revealed a life-threatening low level of serum phosphate, normal 25-hydroxy vitamin D concentration, low TmP/GFR ratio, and elevated FGF23 levels.

This study aimed to address the issue of rapid electron-hole recombination in photocatalysis by exploiting multi-phase TiO decorated on multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to improve the photocatalytic degradation of dyes. A simple and eco-friendly one-pot method was utilized to create the TiO/MWCNT nanostructure using glucose as both a structure-directing agent and a carbon source without requiring any prior covalent or non-covalent functionalization of the MWCNTs at 160 °C. Furthermore, it was found that the average width of the nanocomposites changed from 20 ± 1 and 42 ± 2 nm to 56 ± 3 nm, corresponding to MWCNT contents of 1.

Background: Drug resistance is one of the leading causes attributed to the failure of cancer treatment by chemotherapy. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a transcription factor regulating gene expression in cell defense against oxidative stress or hazardous factors. Taking advantage of this feature, Nrf2 also serves as the bodyguard for both normal and cancer cells.
