Brown adipocytes were proposed to reverse metabolic conditions such as obesity and diabetes, which make them potential for therapeutic applications. Brown adipocytes and browning process are capable of thermogenesis, the uncoupling metabolism which allows them to promote balanced energy expenditure, a fundamental mechanism for improving metabolic disorders. Thermogenesis process is not only performed by the thermogenin UCPs within the mitochondria, but instead, is globally regulated within brown and browning adipose tissues, which induces signalling molecules that can be sent to nearby and distant tissues to generate systemic effects on metabolism.

July 2023

School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, International University, Quarter 6, Linh Trung Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are among the popular drugs for treating depression and mental disorders. Membrane fluidity has previously been considered as the main factor in modulating the membrane partitioning of SSRIs, while other biophysical properties, such as the acyl chain order and area per lipid, were often neglected. Varying the lipid membrane composition and temperature can significantly modify the physical phase and, in turn, affect its fluidity, acyl chain order and area per lipid.
