Background: Drug resistance is one of the leading causes attributed to the failure of cancer treatment by chemotherapy. Nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a transcription factor regulating gene expression in cell defense against oxidative stress or hazardous factors. Taking advantage of this feature, Nrf2 also serves as the bodyguard for both normal and cancer cells.

Laser-welding is a promising technique for welding NiTi shape memory alloys with acceptable tensile strength and comparable corrosion performance for biomedical applications. The microstructural characteristics and localized corrosion behavior of NiTi alloys in a simulated body fluid (SBF) environment are evaluated. A microstructural examination indicated the presence of fine and equiaxed grains with a B2 austenite phase in the base metal (BM), while the weld metal (WM) had a coarse dendritic microstructure with intermetallic precipitates including TiNi and NiTi.

In light of escalating environmental pollution and tremendous energy shortage, the development of multifunctional materials with diverse applications across biomedical and energy production platforms has become imperative. Among this domain, nanostructured heterogeneous composites based on semiconductors are exclusively promising owing to their distinct configurations. Notably, graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN (CN)) has drawn substantial interest as a sustainable candidate with surface functionality, electron-rich nature, and interconnected conjugation system along the polymeric matrix.

Background: Effects of confounders on associations between diet and colorectal cancer (CRC) in observational studies can be minimized in Mendelian randomization (MR) approach. This study aimed to investigate observational and genetically predicted associations between dietary intake and CRC using one-sample MR.
Methods: Using genetic data of over 93 million variants, we performed a genome-wide association study to find genomic risk loci associated with dietary intake in participants from the UK Biobank.

Rice serves as a crucial staple food crop for half of the world's population. In the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD), rice production plays a vital role in national food security. However, the majority of the existing intensified rice cultivation schemes in the VMD, which are typically traditional, have rendered many farmers' livelihoods unsustainable due to issues such as land degradation, water pollution, health risks, and low profitability.

Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), particularly in treating developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) and metabolic epilepsy (ME), requires a deep understanding of their complex etiologies and treatment responses. After excluding treatable cases such as infectious or autoimmune encephalitis, our focus shifted to a more challenging subgroup of 59 patients for in-depth genetic analysis using exome sequencing (ES). The ES analysis identified 40 genetic abnormalities, significantly including de novo variants.

Rampant and illegal river sand mining in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta (VMD) has led to substantial sediment losses and bank erosion. However, regulation of this issue remains a significant challenge due to insufficient monitoring and enforcement efforts, partly attributed to limited data and technology. To support an improved monitoring system in the VMD, this study investigates the spatiotemporal changes in sand mining hotspots and their underlying drivers.

Background: Heart failure is one of the leading causes of mortality and hospitalization in cardiovascular patients. Guideline-directed medical treatment (GDMT) in the current era includes novel medications such as ARNI and SGLT2 inhibitors, as well as an approach to treatment based on clinical phenotypes. To assess prognostic factors for mortality and hospital readmissions plays a crucial role in patient care.

With rising environmental concerns, accurate air quality predictions have become paramount as they help in planning preventive measures and policies for potential health hazards and environmental problems caused by poor air quality. Most of the time, air quality data are time series data. However, due to various reasons, we often encounter missing values in datasets collected during data preparation and aggregation steps.

Porcine Circovirus Type 2 (PCV2), a significant pathogen in the global swine industry, causes Porcine Circovirus Associated Diseases (PCVAD), contributing to substantial economic losses. This study investigates the genetic diversity and evolutionary dynamics of PCV2 in Vietnam from 2007 to 2023. We sequenced and analyzed 47 PCV2 genomes isolated from swine farms across Vietnam between 2022 and 2023, revealing predominant circulation of PCV2d (80.

The circular economy has been identified as a critical keyword for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Nevertheless, there is a lack of in-depth empirical literature on the impact mechanisms of the circular economy (CE) and economic growth (GDP) in mitigating e-waste generation (waste electrical and electronic equipment - WEEE). Given Europe's leading position in e-waste generation per capita, the study aims to scrutinize the interplay between CE, GDP, and WEEE for 2010-2020.

In an effort to pursue a green synthesis approach, the biosynthesis of nano-silver (nAg) using plant extracts has garnered significant attention, particularly for its antimicrobial resistance and medical applications, which have been the focus of numerous studies. However, there remains a gap in surface catalytic studies, especially regarding the hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol. While some studies have addressed catalytic kinetics, thermodynamic aspects have been largely overlooked, leaving the catalytic mechanisms of biosynthesized nAg unclear.

This study delves into integrating single-atom catalysts with photothermal effect in peroxymonosulfate (PMS)-based Fenton-like systems for enhanced pollutant degradation. A single-atom photothermal catalyst (Co/PMCNs) was designed using mesoporous carbon spheres as both a single-atom support and a photothermal material. Near-infrared (NIR) light was employed due to its superior thermal effect and penetration capacity in water.

Submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) has recently been recognized as an influential factor in coastal ecosystems; however, little research has been conducted on its effects on coastal fish diversity. To investigate the relationship between SGD and fish diversity, we conducted a survey at the coastal island scale using the environmental DNA (eDNA) method. Our findings indicate that fish species richness and functional richness peak at stations with high SGD.
