To maintain both mitochondrial quality and quantity, cells selectively remove damaged or excessive mitochondria through mitophagy, which is a specialised form of autophagy. Mitophagy is induced in response to diverse conditions, including hypoxia, cellular differentiation and mitochondrial damage. However, the mechanisms that govern the removal of specific dysfunctional mitochondria under steady-state conditions to fine-tune mitochondrial content are not well understood.

Hepatic stellate cell (HSC) activation via the autophagy pathway is a critical factor in liver fibrogenesis. This study tests the hypothesis that chloroquine (CQ) treatment can prevent autophagy and HSC activation in vitro and in vivo in bile-duct-ligated (BDL) mice. Sham-operated and BDL mice were treated with either PBS or CQ in two 60 mg/kg doses the day (D) before and after surgery.

Estimating genetic parameters for growth traits is crucial to plan breeding strategies for improving meat production in indigenous sheep breeds. The study first tested the effects of environmental and maternal effects on five growth traits, including birth weight (BWT), weight at 120 days (WT120), weight at 180 days (WT180), weight at 270 days (WT270) and weight at 365 days of age (WT365) and then estimated genetic parameters for these traits using data obtained in 1215 Lohi sheep. The effects of factors, including year (YOB), season (SOB) and type of birth (TOB), age of dam (AOD) and sex on growth traits of Lohi sheep, were examined using analysis of variance (ANOVA) in R software.

Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) are an abundant class of RNA with varying nucleotide lengths. They have been shown to have great potential in eutherians/human disease diagnosis and treatments and are now gaining more importance for the improvement of diseases in livestock. To date, thousands of ncRNAs have been discovered in the bovine genome and the continuous advancement in deep sequencing technologies and various bioinformatics tools has enabled the elucidation of their roles in bovine health.

Environmental innovation and firm value: The moderating role of organizational capital.

J Environ Manage

August 2022

College of Business Administration, Al Falah University, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Electronic address:

Since last decade, firms are facing the challenge of strict compliance in response to the stakeholders' awareness about climate change and environmental degradation. Considering these trends, we examine the effect of environmental innovation such as product innovation and process innovation on firm value and the moderating effect of organizational capital on environmental innovation-firm value nexus. Using the data of U.

Pervaporation, mainly utilized to separate azeotropic mixtures, has been paid much attention for desalination in recent years due to its numerous advantages. The membranes based on thin-film composite structure have gained great interest in pervaporation due to their thin thickness, controllable hydrophilicity, and crosslinking density which affects the permeation flux and selectivity of the membranes. In this study, a polyamide thin-film composite (PA-TFC) membrane was fabricated through interfacial polymerization between amine monomers and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) on a polysulfone porous substrate (PSf).

Introduction: In recent years, both stromal vascular fraction (SVF) from adipose tissue and mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) from adipose tissues were extensively used in both preclinical and clinical treatment for various diseases. Some studies reported differences in treatment efficacy between SVFs and MSCs in animals as well as in humans. Therefore, this study is aimed to evaluate the immune modulation and angiogenic potential of SVFs and MSCs from the same SVF samples to support an explanation when SVFs or MSCs should be used.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers studied pangolins and civets in Viet Nam to identify possible sources of SARS-related coronaviruses, screening 696 specimens for various viral RNA, but found most were negative for these viruses.
  • They discovered 12 specimens from confiscated pangolins that tested positive for Sarbecoviruses, which were related to coronaviruses found in pangolins from other parts of China.
  • Data collection on wildlife confiscation showed that many pangolins in Viet Nam were being trafficked toward consumers in China, highlighting the global trade issue surrounding these animals.

This paper evaluates the energy poverty of Vietnam by mediating the role of financial development and environmental considerations. Across the globe, billions of individuals live in fuel poverty, failing to access inexpensive and sustainable energy, which is necessary for long-term development. An elevation in power consumption due to an overall increase in heat and short periods of extreme heat exacerbates global warming.

Plastic waste as a valuable resource: strategy to remove heavy metals from wastewater in bench scale application.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

June 2022

Laboratory for Process Engineering for Sustainable Systems, Department of Chemical Engineering, KU Leuven, Celestijnenlaan 200F, 3001, Leuven, Belgium.

Single-use plastic waste is gradually considered a potential material for circular economy. Ion exchange resin obtained from polystyrene waste by sulfonating with HSO was used for heavy metal removal from electroplating wastewater. Batch mode experiments of Cu, Zn, and Cd were carried out to determine effect of pH, initial concentration, equilibrium time, and the isotherm and kinetic parameters; the stability of the resin in continuous operation was then evaluated.
